By Ranil Wickremesinghe –
Sri Lanka has proved its credentials as a mature, peaceful democracy as the victory of Opposition Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena is resounding across the country.
The quality of democracy in any country is revealed not only in the magnanimity of the victors of popular franchise, but the graciousness of the defeated.
We thank President Mahinda Rajapaksa for enabling a smooth, peaceful and civilised transition.
We also owe a debt of gratitude to Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya who stood strong in the face of pressure to ensure the integrity and credibility of the election on January 8, 2015.
The police and the security forces personnel must also be appreciated for their contribution to keeping the peace and ensuring the safety of the citizenry during election day.
To the voters who placed their trust and confidence in us we owe you our allegiance and our respect.

PM Ranil only “appreciates” the Police and the Security Forces personnel.
Intelligence Officers of the Security Forces faced a horrid time when this Ranil was PM last time.
UNP heavy Mr Wijedasa , has made a statement that the Military planned a coup… according a commentator here.
Will this new ” PM ” confirm whether it is True or False.to allay any fears of the Armed Forces and their loved ones in the rural villages, who obviously didn’t vote for this PM , let alone the newly elected President.

Is it true Mahinda invited Ranil to offer Tea late last night. On the other hand did he plead for mercy?
/
Truth Teller / January 10, 2015
Yes he did, and Ranil misunderstood it and bent over.
MR ran staright back to madamulana!

Yes you are right. Kerry would have asked his most junior intern to deal with MR.

Congratulations! Look, it’s good that you are going to bring in democracy for Sri Lanka and all that, but how is it going to hold together in the midst of majority race seeking greater deliverance for Ancient Heritage?
It will be good if Rajapakse is recognized and honored as the great Hero he is, and conferred Constitutional Monarchy status so as to prevent genericization of an ancient land. Otherwise, all the democratic aspirations of your coalition will just not deliver.

Are you joking
/
ramona therese fernando / January 10, 2015
OK, leader of the Opposition is the better deal for Mahinda in the current climate……although Constitutional Monarch is more fitting for the ancient Nation. Hope he will be there to take over and save the country once that coalition comes apart.

I had a hearty laugh this morning. Our daily news.lk has suddenly come across my3’s 100 days program and other working plans for implementation. Rajpal has never seen it before until the election results were announced!
Get rid of him immediately and appoint a journalist who understands the professional ethics of the fourth estate.

Great article.
Obviously, EC was great.
I hope PResident Maithripala Sirisena and PM Ranil wickramasinha will clean the system from the beginning by not recruiting politicians who have shady characters. both, UNP and SLFP are full of those.
A second thing, if the new govt work to get back some of those stolen money.

I think, with respect to Mr. Ranil wickramasinghe, people will be watching your Pro-western mentality. Now the trade winds are from a different side. On the other hand, Sri lanka should not be ally to western injustices. The next most important thing is that Sri Lankan majority is Sinhala – buddhists. They don’t expect any harm to any one but they they expect they due place in the country. That kind of mentality is very human.
I hope Mr. Ranil wickramasinghe at least this time will be very understanding and won’t be deceiving everybody the way Mahinda Rajapakse did.

paying tribute to the people is not good enough.
People changed the regime for a purpose and you got to deliver without betraying the trust place in you and the rest.

Well, now that the people of this nation have given the mandate its up to the new government to deliver what has been promised. With more executive powers to be delegated to the Prime Minister,it is up to Mr.Wickrasinghe to ensure this country is run by honest and proven people rather than political lackeys or those close associates of Royal College. Please remember this is not an election won by Royalists

The backgrounds and abilities of Ranil and the President complement each other very well and between the two of them are able to understand the aspirations of most Sri Lankans. Both have long experience in parliamentary representative politics and understand the difficulties and challenges that lie ahead. They are assured of the support of other progressives such as the JHU, JVP, TNA and Muslim parties.
Let us hope that They will be able to make the changes that the people have voted for and deliver on the long list of promises within the deadlines they have set.

Ranil are you sincere towards the voters who had help to dislodge this known devil? Beware he is still around wielding his knife behind your back. The danger will be over, only if you don’t show the same compassion you showed on him; what you did during 2001-2004. you withdrew the DIG and the investigation on him. In return he made you to loose your chance of becoming the President in 2005 by bribing LTTE and prevented the Tamils voting for you. He has tried his old tricks again, but this time the voters just got rid of him, because of his track record. You may piously feed the pet cobra with milk, but one day it will bite the same feeding hands; Thus don’t be complacent he is still trying to pull out a rabbit to trap you and My3. very dangerous animal, Beware!
