The main opposition United National Party that has suffered humiliating defeats at consecutive elections for over nine years with the exception of the 2011 Colombo Municipal Council election will soon see “major reorganisation” says its national list legislator Dr. Harsha De Silva.

Posting an update on his Facebook account, De Silva said that the party’s more junior members of Parliament had presented its suggestions to Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on September 27.
“The discussion was brutally honest and to the point. Let me tell you that he was most sincere and open to the suggestions that included ones never made before,” De Silva said adding that the proposals submitted to the UNP Leader had followed several days and nights of “brainstorming”.
De Silva said he had every reason to believe that he will take our suggestions fully onboard when he finally decides on the best course of action for the United National Party.
“I hope the others; seniors and juniors alike would put their self interests behind and unite to ensure we move forward from that point on to reach the common objective of every member of our glorious party,” the UNP Parliamentarian said.

It is appalling that the UNP MPs themselevs are too blind to see the political realities. RW is not the reason that the party has lost. If there are more popular leaders in the party they ought to win their seats and districts. The fact of the matter is that they keep losing their seats with 15K plus. Who is the party leader in SL who had stepped down for defeats? In RW’s case he is not culpable for the losses. PC elections held staggered not to test public opinion but to frustrate oppposition. The SLFP during 77 and 93 lost 59 elections until CBK came and won the WP in 1993 which too was a fluke given the UNP-DUNF split. Not RW, even the Lord Buddha, Jesus Christ or the Prophet Mohammad in opposition could find it difficult to win elections under this system

Just after the recent elections, an old UNPer who desperately wants to send the Rajapaksha rogue to jail and for a UNP government spoke to me and he sounded so hysteric and broken. He was thrilled at the idea and even suggested a name for the competition, “Sirasa Political Star!!!!!!” This is the type and level of even “strong” UNPers that the UNP leadership has to work with! This is the general cross section of the society who have been brainwashed, compromised, hoodwinked and conditioned by mararized false propaganda machinery. The myth propagation acts as a virus spreading rapidly over time, the contracted becoming the disease carrier and transmitter and propagator! But for the Rajapaksha’s Madamulana disease there is only one solution which is a UNP government led by Ranil under which all the retracted, withheld, undermined, deformed and deprived rights and mechanisms of democracy are guaranteed to recover and restore and enhance further! The placebo pills, the compromised medications or the contraband won’t do! The very idea of Sajith demanding the presidency is contrary to the growing demand of the society for the abolition of the EP. It also conflicts with UNPs new policy of abolition of same and adoption of a new constitution. Ranil is not a complete failure. He has the vision (which no other has) and the conviction to carry forward his vision. Unfortunately most of his parliamentarians are not defending his vision with a conviction. They know that the show has been stolen by Mahinda Rajapaksa for foreseeable future. Therefore they are impatient. They want to become despotic cabinet ministers to earn all the possible profit for the investments they have made thus far in the politics.
Ranil has to be more decisive and kick out Sajith from the party without further delay. With Sajith there will be no future for UNP. He is so mean and destructive.
