Who Won The War Against The LTTE?

By S. V. Kirubaharan

S. V. Kirubaharan

S. V. Kirubaharan

Presently the waves of the Presidential election in Sri Lanka are making everyone claim that they won the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam – LTTE.

All the ardent supporters of the main opposition candidate Maithiripala Sirisena and former VVIPs – Chandrika Kumaratunga, Ranil Wickremwsinghe, Mangala Samaraweera, and Sarath Fonseka claim that they won the war against the LTTE. They give a “percentage” to their claim.

It is the same with Rajapaksa, who is contesting for the third term fraudulently. He claims that the war was won by him and his brother Gatobaya, the Defence Secretary. Pro-Rajapaksa columnists have consistently endorsed this too.

If any of the above-mentioned personalities were capable of winning the war against the LTTE, why did they wait so long, causing thousands of civilian deaths as well as serious damage to the social-economy! Consider the military factors – Sarath Fonseka was in the Army right from the beginning of the war. The Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa of course had got scared of the LTTE’s military activities and had run away from the war and settled in the USA.

Of course it was the innocent soldiers who sacrificed their lives. They did not know politics, but joined the forces to feed their families. In fact, there were ‘child soldiers’ in the Sri Lanka government forces, ‘legalised’ by producing fake birth certificates through officials.

Even though the Sri Lankan government says it is an internal conflict, this was the only war in the world where all the powerful countries were on one side.

To explain further – India had its reasons and it was waiting for a good opportunity to take revenge on the LTTE. So, even though India is not on good terms with either China or Pakistan, they all directly and indirectly cooperated in bringing this war to an end.

fonseka_mahinda_gotabhaya - colombotelegraphIt was the same with the USA. It is not on good terms with Russia, China, Iran, and especially North Korea but they all joined together in this war.

Also we should not forget the contribution of even some international human rights organisations and VIPs to the international community stepping in against the LTTE.

So today, the international community has concluded that, they have been cheated by the Rajapaksa government and very tough on them.

Facts and realities

Those who claim they won the war, along with those who endorse the war victory, do not consider the following facts, because of their racially biased thinking.

Firstly, LTTE diplomacy was weak compared to its fire-power. In other words they were not smart enough to out-match the Sri Lankan government propaganda which was executed by major public relations firms to the tune of millions and billions of dollars, pounds and euros. On the other hand, many political activists in foreign countries were aware neither of the wider politics nor of diplomacy. What they wanted were leadership roles. They wanted to be known among the diaspora as LTTE leaders. That was both their ambition and achievement.

Secondly, within a few months of the signing of the MoU between the LTTE and Sri Lanka government, the outbreak of internal problems or misunderstandings among LTTE cadres came to light. This created a very good opportunity for all the intelligence services to take advantage of the situation.

In the meantime, two top commanders of the LTTE started to work secretly with the Sri Lankan military intelligence and the government. Due to this, Sri Lanka managed to bomb many LTTE ships in international waters.

Red-carpet welcome

Meanwhile, some among the diaspora who helped the LTTE financially and with some political manoeuvring, were expecting Pirapaharan to invite them to the Vanni and give them a red-carpet welcome. As this never materialised, they were furious with the LTTE and jealous of those who went to the Vanni and met the leadership. This made them criticise the LTTE from top to bottom. Their criticisms were well noted by some foreign intelligence services and this also caused damage to the LTTE.

During the same period, the LTTE refusal to accept the “Oslo declaration” alerted the international community, especially the Co-chairs, to the fact that the LTTE was not ready for any solution other than a separate state. This signal a red card to the LTTE

Considering this a golden opportunity, Sri Lanka appealed for international help to fight against the LTTE. In other words, Sri Lanka informed the global community that it could no longer fight the LTTE alone.

To achieve the sympathy of the world community, they disseminated many lies and falsehoods about the ground realities. Through their luxurious wining and dining, gifts of diamonds and blue sapphires, they got the international community to accept their plea, on condition that once the war was brought to an end, they would deliver a viable political solution for the ethnic conflict.

As Rajapaksa promised this to the international community, they started their actions against the LTTE. Soon after, a ban was imposed on them in a few countries.

All the overseas branches of the LTTE were under severe surveillance and some activists were arrested and sentenced to jail.

Even at this juncture, the LTTE never realized that international scrutiny may bring an end to their existence.

Big powers

All the big powers openly started to support Sri Lanka on the war front. In the mean-time, at the request of the international community, India started its round-the-clock patrol in the Indian Ocean, stopping arms supplies to the LTTE.

At the same time, Rajapaksa’s international propagandists worked very closely with countries like Iran and North Korea. These two powerful countries don’t have the support of many Western countries, especially USA, Canada and EU countries.

In fact, the UN Human Rights Council was the main venue for these horse-deals. I personally witnessed, one of Rajapaksa’s well-known propagandists dealing with the Ambassador of North Korea. As I don’t want to discredit this gentleman, I avoid naming him.

We cannot under-estimate the contribution of the paramilitary groups. They worked closely with the Sri Lankan government, carrying out all sorts of assassinations and sabotaging humanitarian supplies to the North and East.

For all the above reasons and many more, the war came to an end in May 2009.

It was the international community which fought and won the war against the LTTE. Not as these power hungry politicians say with their fake claim that they won the war; that they contributed 70% to the victory of the war, and that they paved the way for the war to be won, etc. These are all frustrated claims, with the intention of fooling the innocent voters in the South.

All those who proudly claim that they won the war should realise how many deaths they caused, especially at Mullivaighzhal and in the North and East. Also, whoever claims victory should realize how many lies and unrealistic notions they spread among the international community. Finally, they should realise the fact that today the International community regrets its blind support to Sri Lanka.

This seems to be a load of bullshit coming from a terrorist lover to mislead the public.
If the war was against Tamils then there would not be any Tamil people left in Sri Lanka today, yet we have a thriving Tamil business that are leaders in Sri Lankan business and industry, almost half the Tamil people live happily and peacefully amongst the Sinhala and Muslim population, we have powerful Tamil ministers in the cabinet, and even a Tamil chief ministers in the provinces. Even at the height of war, peace-loving Tamils that opposed the Tamil terrorists worked alongside the government to annihilate the terrorist menace. And today we have no active terrorists whereas in those countries that aided, financed and politically supported those Tamil terrorists called the LTTE are burdened by other home grown terrorists within their own countries that is pinning down their security services and funds. It was as if their sins are haunting them for their misdeeds.
So Thalaivar, stop spreading your FALSE PROPAGANDA. Some people are so ignorant that they cannot even sustain their false and illogical arguments; pity that they are unable to see beyond the end of their nose.
Here is a quotation from “Every Day Life on a Ceylon Cocoa Estate ” a book written by Mary E Steuart, an English woman who used to live alongside Tamil plantation workers: “…….. A reformer is much needed in Ceylon to wage war against native dishonesty and untruthfulness. Of course, these are the besetting sins of all Eastern nations, but here the lying and pilfering is done with such childlike simplicity, that were it not so grave a matter, it would be quite laughable. A coolie will tell a lie in a most assured manner, though if he exercised any thought, he would know that in the course of two or three minutes the lie would be found out, and when detected he only smiles…..”

Well, its good question isn’t it? I can vividly remember how the collapse started.

A large number of Tamils from a number of countries had gathered in Kilinochi on 22 Dec 2004. The purpose of the meeting was to plan how the “final war” was to be unleashed on Ceylon.

Right next day on boxing day a massive Tsunami hit and clinically devastated the NE. That was the beginning of the end. The Tsunami seems to suggest even the gods were involved.

So I would say the gods were involved spiritually, the world was involved logistically, Sri Lankan Parliament was involved politically, the Ceylon armed forces were involved militarily and finally the people of Ceylon were involved whole heatedly to destroy the feral Tamil nazi nuisance.

Kiruba hasn’t seen the Siraisena- Wickremasinghe Pact either.

The critical issue facing the inhabitant population is not about who won the War, but who is going to give Vellala Sambnadan and his TNA , more than what Kiruba Hero, Nr Prabakran asked for.

Here is the list in the Pact to please the TNA for keeping mum to hoodwink the South….

    * Cut down the Armed Forces by 50 Percent.

    * Give full 13 A Plus any other demands of the TNA.

    * Give the Money saved by making 130,000 soldiers redundant to NPC and EPC .

    * Remove the Armed Forces from all Security Zones in the North and the East and give the Lands to the CMs

Do the inhabitants know about this Pact and what is in it?.

Are they giving CC Sira the Mandate to implement this pact?.

If CC Sira keeps mum and hoodwink the masses to become the President, isn’t it not only morally wrong but illegal as well?.

I mean 35 thousand soldiers gave their lives to keep the Nation in one piece,

Over One Hundred Thousand lost their limbs Eyes and and other body parts, to give the freedom of travel, work , and live in any part of the land of this 2500 year old Nation.

How would the great majority in the South feel when they realize after the Election , that My Three coalition partners have cheated them and given the Vellalas the Victory which Prabakaran couldn’t achieve ?…

Will they keep mum and live like in the past before Nanthikadal ?..

Will they like to see the brave soldiers who won the War on the Dole ?.

Or will the inhabitant expect the brave Armed Forces to save the country again from Sira and his schemers both local and in the in the West?…

Sounds like all these diaspora (including Ms.S. Raja) are very nervous that there is going to be a change in the political scene in Colombo. Rajapakse Regime would want forever be bashing and on the Diaspora and pro LTTE groups in order to keep their communal political flame burning to garner votes.

Now that it is changing the Tamil Diaspora have become nervous as the MS/UNP faction has no need to keep that flame burning their approach will be different.

Actually diaspora would want MR to win, so they can justify their asylum claims and continue to live in their adopted countries.

All that will change, MS/UNP faction will bring a whole new approach and this made up LTTE resurrection will vanish, all communities will be given equal rights, diashora will be deported. So make much noise as you can while it last.

The war would have been over in 1987 if the LTTE didn’t go screaming and crying to India who intervened. For that intervention the Indian army and Rajiv Gandhi paid.

The LTTE and diaspora tried the same tactic using the USA this time but fortunately the President stood firm and told the americans, british and french ‘where to get off’.

The LTTE was defeated comprehensively. Get used to it.

    Well done Kiruba.
Anton Balasingam too contributed to the downfall of LTTE, by his inaction indifference and shameful quietism during the last 5 – 6 years while living in London. He never encouraged or permitted other LTTE sympathisers and intellectuals to become politically active. He was scared that if others were allowed to play an active role politically his sole position authority and power will be eroded. He succeeded in keeping the LTTE and it’s leader in dark, not allowing them to know the global political moves, and thus made him crowned as ” voice of nation” .

according to the author “It was the international community which fought and won the war against the LTTE” I don’t agree with you! It was the Sri Lankan Armed forces that won the war. There were many contributors. I would say 9/11 was one of the greatest contributor! The international community did support the war as it was getting out of control and the elected government was under pressure and no signs of negotiations by the LTTE! I would also give some credit to Ranil for breaking up the LTTE leader ship and getting Karuna out of the LTTE. SF played a major role in winning the war but Chandrinka of course did not in any way contribute though she claims that she did! Whether we like it or not the credit should go to Gota and Mahinda as the president was able to give a free hand to fight the war because the president had his brother controlling the military! No other president would have done it because the moment the war is won the military leadership gets the major credit like SF who came to the conclusion that he should be the president! This is the main problem the previous presidents had in giving full authority to fight the war according to military strategies.

Ruwan, good points. The IC didn’t want a non-state actor ruling a defacto administration. The LTTE were incorrigible, egged on by their supporters in the West, they went for a maxi-max solution, and lost.

I digress on some points though. Canada with a large Tamil Community was the one of the first to ban the LTTE. I think Kadiragamar’s death turned them. The Tamil community too complained about the high handedness of the LTTE front organizations. So the collapse started from within.

CBK initiated the DPU units that assassinated the Higher Command of the LTTE. The first to go was a Canadian, Shankar, he master minded the Air Wing and did a good job with it. This put pressure on the LTTE to come to the negotiating table.

Then by supporting MR, the LTTE let the house collapse on themselves.

The death of the LTTE was inevitable. A military struggle lasts 25-30 years and then it gets reconverted to a political struggle. In between the warriors must make the peace to avoid complete wipe out. This the LTTE missed.

It does not matter as to who won the war against the LTTE and how. These questions are irrelevant at this juncture. The LTTE lacked political acumen and was routed and along with it the Tamil cause suffering a severe setback. It was an absolute waste of resources. Tens of thousands of Tamil people were destroyed. The foremost priority is for the Tamils to now vote in the coming Presidential election and not make the mistake of 2005. They must vote for the right candidate with the view to restoring democracy.

This argument is like the argument as to who killed “Cock Robin”.

    http://www.rhymes.org.uk/who_killed_cock_robin.htm

LTTE was defeated by many actors and situations.
But, the army intelligence now ‘resurrects’ the LTTE when human rights activists become an embarrassment – latest being Jeyakumary
Balendran and daughter who demanded production of the husband and father, and many others who were arrested by the army during the final days of the war and disappeared forever.
I hope that the newly elected president disarms the military intelligence and repeals the PTA.

Doesnt matter who won the war, there is no war now.No shelling.no killings. What were you doing in France in the last stages of the war?Did you go to Vanni and fight?Did you send your children to fight? No.What happened to the money collected to buy missiles? Those who were involved in arms smuggling and extortion have now become the human rights champions. It is because you wear coat and tie ,it does not mean that you are a HR activist.

Ramanya, Are you worried about Kiruba’s dress?

Do you expect him to appear without cloths like you?

Personnel slander will not work in this form, debate the point.

You cannot match Kiruba the Tamil Angel

You can only find fault but you can’t do anything constructively!

Who won ???? But LTTE lost. The war was always to be lost. LTTE fooled the Tamil people. Actually they fought the war for MR. What is left of LTTE is LBTE (Liberation Buffalo of…)

It is shame of all those countries who supported the racist crminal Rajapaksha in war in the pretext of fighting against LTTE and killed many civilians. India share huge blame and responsible for supporting the civilian killings!

It was the international community which fought and won the war against the LTTE. Not as these power hungry politicians say with their fake claim that they won the war; says S.V.Kirubaharan

Why what about KP who helped MR to defeat the LTTE where KP was accorded an escort of protection and the best of comfort without having to undergo rehabilitation as other LTTE cadre? Karuna also helped to defeat VP and for the favour Gota got Karuna a DPL Passport in Kokila Gunawardene’s name to unite with his family in the UK but failed miserably? Although the average Tamils cry for the Human slaughter there are some Tamils willing to give a hand to MR so they could enjoy position and perks. What irony?

“Tamils willing to give a hand to MR so they could enjoy position and perks. What irony?”

The reason may be is because they think only they have head and are like the Jews but behave like the Russian bears who don’t sit together for their meals as a family.

Jealousy runs very much in them. The big names they have now are conmen from Emil S to Raj Rajaratnam and more in the pipeline. Ananda Cooomaraswamy was very much Anglo Saxon and live like European (Europeans in the field of arts Hinduism, culture refer him) Greatness through fraud- anything goes like creeping into the west when the doors were opened by Maggie in 83- the mules the brown sugar via delhi, bombay and stop over flights within europe that brought the guns more than the forced collections which idiots are craving about.
The music of the tamils under the british raj died with them when they got rid of a million estate tamils along with DSS.Irony Murali from the estate is now the world record holder.
      merry x’mas gamini!

Did you read this article properly? The [Edited out] man who wrote this article says……………

In the meantime, two top commanders of the LTTE started to work secretly with the Sri Lankan military intelligence and the government. Due to this, Sri Lanka managed to bomb many LTTE ships in international waters.

Secondly, within a few months of the signing of the MoU between the LTTE and Sri Lanka government, the outbreak of internal problems or misunderstandings among LTTE cadres came to light. This created a very good opportunity for all the intelligence services to take advantage of the situation.

Here are the people who defeated the Tigers. Bush the murderer of Iraqies with his doctrine that all freedom fighters should be eliminated because of what happened on 9/11, Bush’s poodle TonynBlair who seconded whatever Bush stated, the Malayalee mafia namely Narayanan, shiv Sankar Menon together with Mukerjee and Nambiar of UN Ilfame,
waitress Sonia who wanted to avenge the death of Rajiv, although she was a party to Rajiv’s assassination. By the way the Jain commission was disbanded before they gave a verdict, the traitor Kadirgamar who went round the world requesting foreign Govts to ban the Tigers. Incidentally there is no conclusive proof that Kadirgamer was killed by the Tigers. They suspects are there in the Govt who did not want a Tamil PM.Webshould also not forget that India had an inept and incompetent PM namely Man Mohan Singh at that time.
If Indira Gandhi was alive, Tamil Eelam would have been reality just like Bangladesh . Her doctrine like the Montro Doctrine would have been to demand that all countries should keep their hands off the Indian Ocean.

Hysterical We Thamizh still can’t handle the fact that We Thamizh asses were well and truly spanked by the Singhalese. Surprising as you’d think We Tamizh would be used to this by now, as it’s such a common theme historically. We Thamizh start acting out the age old fantasy of laying claim to the Sinhalese country, eventually the Sinhalese run out of patience and the ass beating commences. It’s getting boring now :D

Wee Thamizh Senior Journalist Siva Sankaran Sarma Menon,

      Brilliant.

      Happy Holidays.

“We Thamizh asses were well and truly spanked by the Singhalese.”

Of course the Sinhala/Buddhists have been into kinky sex, their sexuality could have been repulsive, damaged, and abusive. If it is done within their own private space who cares.

They also enjoy being spanked. Pandyas, Cholas, Kalingas, Portuguese, Dutch,Brits, … were invited to this island for special spanking sessions prolonging over many centuries, submissive fantasies played out in public.

Didn’t they enjoy kinky sex with the psychopath VP over 30 years. Yes they did.

Wee Thamihz and Wee Sinhalese are blessed with lots of Oxytocin (pain tolerance) hormone in their body.

Laymen believe its the love hormone, hug hormone, cuddle chemical,
      moral molecule,bliss hormone, ….

You should try oxytocin, might help you relax, increase your capacity to trust, and provides much needed psychological stability. If you couldn’t find the chemical get some Chinese to kick your butts if you are bored with Hindian spanking.

Kirubha says “Even though the Sri Lankan government says it is an internal conflict, this was the only war in the world where all the powerful countries were on one side…..”

Hey Kirubaha, your mentor Prabhakaran was a “Sadistically Mad Killer” running around like a “Loose Cannon”. All the powerful countries joined hands to try to put a noose around Prabha to control him and in the end he ended in a muddy lagoon rotting with dead fish.

The day he killed Rajiv Ghandhi his Prabha’s fate was sealed and he was as good as dead. It was only a matter of time……

Like cannibals do, Probha virtually ate the flesh and blood of his own tamil brothers and sisters. If he lived a few more years with his killing machine, in his madness he would have exterminated the entire tamil population from Sri Lanka. The real Gonocider was Prabhakaran.

Emile Savundra, Are you happy now?

So you admit with Kirubha that this war was won by the international community not by the Singhalese.

Then there is no need of any comment here.

First and foremost, it was a civil war and there are no winners but only losers i.e. the citizens who paid with their lives, on both sides of the spectrum. It is unbecoming of the President (and his brother the Defence Secretary) to elevate this to a scale as if winning a World War and celebrating (every May 19th) the death of children, be it Tamil or Sinhalese or whatever but ultimately innocent children of Sri Lanka. The President and his brother were lodged in their ivory towers out of harms way while the soldiers fought on making sacrifices but now have the audacity to claim they won the war and gloat on the outcome. I recently read a report that the injured and incapacitated soldiers are denied their salaries as they are allegedly no longer in the Army. How wicked are these people who are ruling over us, plain hypocrites. The UK too had a similar war with their Northern Ireland compatriots and won but nobody is gloating over it nor celebrating victories. That my friend is culture.

    Dear Mr Kirubakaran,
In order to nullify the claims by the Presidential Candidates and their
puppets, regarding ownership of war victory, one has to be careful to
isolate the brutal killing of the civilians in the No fire Zones, hospitals and the white flag holders from that of the International
Community. That area has to be clarified with an addendum ,if need be so.

In other words, Sri Lanka Govt did not win the war. Prabakaran simply lost it!
