Controversial Buddhist Monk Galagoda Atte Gnanasara of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) has declared that if he and his group had a ‘little’ political backing then they can end the rise of the Muslims in the country.
Speaking at an event recently in Korea where he addressed the Sri Lankans living there, Gnanasara also revealed how he systematically devised a successful plan to virtually destroy and abandon a Muslim town in Kuliyapitiya. “Sometimes, I feel like taking a T-56 and do what Prabhakaran did, but I can’t do it because I am in robes,” he said.
“We have more than 6000 to 7000 of our women who have converted to Islam after marrying Muslims. When we marry a Tamil or someone else we don’t get them to change their names, but when a Muslim fellow marries one of our women, then she is forced to become a Fathima and all the babies become Mohammeds. We must stop this,” he said.
Gnanasara said that this was a dangerous trend. “Our politicians are only greedy for power, they are ready to sacrifice for the party but not ready to do anything for the country. If these politicians only gave us a little backing we can end the rise of the Muslims,” he said.
Speaking further he said that there was a Muslim town which was located amongst Sinhalese villages. “But we systematically devised a plan over a year and today it is infested only with flies, no one else goes there,” a laughing Gnanasara said.
Elaborating further he said that the Muslim town was well off because the people in the town had money and they tried to take ownership of a playground in the area. “From the Sinhala village, a few old ladies had gone to sell their vegetable crop to a Muslim Mudalali in the town, but the Muslim Mudalali refused to buy saying that because they were not given the playground, the mosque had ordered them not to buy anything from the Sinhalese. These old women threw the vegetables onto the floor and then they and the others got together and started their offensive,” he said.
According to Gnanasara, today the Muslim town is absolutely abandoned. “There are now about 6 to 7 new shops owned by Sinhalese and the Muslim town is only infested with flies,” a very pleased Gnanasara said.

In refutation of a common myth that states Islam was spread by the sword and that people were forced to become Muslims, it must be said that it is a common misconception with some non-Muslims that Islam would not have millions of adherents all over the world, if it had not been spread by the use of force.
The following points will make it clear, that far from being spread by the sword, it was the inherent force of truth, reason and logic that was responsible for the rapid spread of Islam.
Islam has always given respect and freedom of religion to all faiths. Freedom of religion is ordained in the Quran itself:
“There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong.” (Quran 2:256)
The noted historian De Lacy O’Leary wrote:[1] “History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.”
The famous historian, Thomas Carlyle, in his book Heroes and Hero worship, refers to this misconception about the spread of Islam: “The sword indeed, but where will you get your sword? Every new opinion, at its starting is precisely in a minority of one; in one man’s head alone. There it dwells as yet. One man alone of the whole world believes it, there is one man against all men. That he takes a sword and tries to propagate with that will do little for him. You must get your sword! On the whole, a thing will propagate itself as it can.”
If Islam was spread by the sword, it was the sword of intellect and convincing arguments. It is this sword that conquers the hearts and minds of people. The Quran says in this connection:
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.” (Quran 16:125)
The facts speak for themselves
· Indonesia is the country that has the largest number of Muslims in the world, and the majority of people in Malaysia are Muslims. But, no Muslim army ever went to Indonesia or Malaysia. It is an established historical fact that Indonesia entered Islam not due to war, but because of its moral message. Despite the disappearance of Islamic government from many regions once ruled by it, their original inhabitants have remained Muslims. Moreover, they carried the message of truth, inviting others to it as well, and in so doing endured harm, affliction and oppression. The same can be said for those in the regions of Syria and Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, North Africa, Asia, the Balkans and in Spain. This shows that the effect of Islam on the population was one of moral conviction, in contrast to occupation by western colonialists, finally compelled to leave lands whose peoples held only memories of affliction, sorrow, subjugation and oppression.
· Muslims ruled Spain (Andalusia) for about 800 years. During this period the Christians and Jews enjoyed freedom to practice their respective religions, and this is a documented historical fact.
· Christian and Jewish minorities have survived in the Muslim lands of the Middle East for centuries. Countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan all have significant Christian and Jewish populations.
· Muslims ruled India for about a thousand years, and therefore had the power to force each and every non-Muslim of India to convert to Islam, but they did not, and thus more than 80% of the Indian population remains non-Muslim.
· Similarly, Islam spread rapidly on the East Coast of Africa. And likewise no Muslim army was ever dispatched to the East Coast of Africa.
· An article in Reader’s Digest ‘Almanac’, yearbook 1986, gives the statistics of the increase of the percentage of the major religions of the world in half a century from 1934 to 1984. This article also appeared in The Plain Truth magazine. At the top was Islam, which increased by 235%, while Christianity had increased by 47%. During this fifty-year period, there was no “Islamic conquest” yet Islam spread at an extraordinary rate.
· Today the fastest growing religion in America and Europe is Islam. The Muslims in these lands are a minority. The only sword they have in their possession is the sword of truth. It is this sword that is converting thousands to Islam.
· Islamic law protects the privileged status of minorities, and that is why non-Muslim places of worship have flourished all over the Islamic world. Islamic law also allows non-Muslim minorities to set up their own courts, which implement family laws drawn up by the minorities themselves. The life and property of all citizens in an Islamic state are considered sacred whether they are Muslims or not.
Conclusion
It is clear, therefore, that Islam did not spread by the sword. The “sword of Islam” did not convert all the non-Muslim minorities in Muslim countries. In India, where Muslims ruled for 800 years, they are still a minority. In the U.S.A., Islam is the fastest growing religion and has over six million followers.
In his book The World’s Religions, Huston Smith discusses how the prophet Muhammad granted freedom of religion to the Jews and Christians under Muslim rule:
The Prophet had a document drawn up in which he stipulated that Jews and Christians “shall be protected from all insults and harm; they shall have an equal right with our own people to our assistance and good offices,” and further, “they shall practice their religion as freely as the Muslims.”[2]
Smith points out that Muslims regard that document as the first charter of freedom of conscience in human history and the authoritative model for those of every subsequent Muslim state.

As I have said, ISIS are following the true Islam. A polytheist or atheist is considered less than human. It is a joke to claim that Islam did not conquer by the sword. Here is what happened to the Jews of Banu Qurayza. They were executed by Muhammed himself. From Wikipedia:
“According to Stillman, Muhammad chose Sa’d so as not to pronounce the judgment himself, after the precedents he had set with the Banu Qaynuqa and the Banu Nadir: “Sa`d took the hint and condemned the adult males to death and the hapless women and children to slavery.” Furthermore, Stillman infers from Abu Lubaba’s gesture that Muhammad had decided the fate of the Qurayza even before their surrender.[29]
Ibn Ishaq describes the killing of the Banu Qurayza men as follows:
“Then they surrendered, and the apostle (Muhammed) confined them in Medina in the quarter of d. al-Harith, a woman of B. al-Najjar. Then the apostle went out to the market of Medina (which is still its market today) and dug trenches in it. Then he sent for them and struck off their heads in those trenches as they were brought out to him in batches. Among them was the enemy of Allah Huyayy b. Akhtab and Ka`b b. Asad their chief. There were 600 or 700 in all, though some put the figure as high as 800 or 900. As they were being taken out in batches to the apostle they asked Ka`b what he thought would be done with them. He replied, “Will you never understand? Don’t you see that the summoner never stops and those who are taken away do not return? By Allah it is death!”
Marwan claims that “and that is why non-Muslim places of worship have flourished all over the Islamic world.” According to Rajiv Varma:
“Islamic literary sources provide far more extensive evidence of temple destruction by the Muslim invaders of India in medieval times. In other words, when the Muslims invaded India, they destroyed thousands of Hindu and other temples, and built mosques in their place.

Anyway, it is a historical fact that Muhammed executed (beheaded) several hundred Jews at Banu Qurayza. It is difficult to misinterpret that. It proves my earlier point, that Muhammed was more of a warrior than a Prophet.
Regarding Quran, as Cholan has said, it was mostly copied from Bible & Torah. If you have two books, and the second book came after the first book, but contains 99% of the first book, there is only one obvious conclusion.

He did get the support of the Rajapaksas and he virtually destroyed a vibrant town to that now occupied by flies and he’s proud of it. Gnanasara then spread wild rumours of Sinhalese girls being raped by Muslims etc which embroiled the people and he got what he wanted. Thankfully we now have a decent government but that hasn’t stopped Gnanasara spreading made up stories of Sinhalese vegetable sellers and Muslim Mudalalis. In trying to refute the perception (perhaps misconceived) that Islam was spread by the sword, you have indulged in certain misrepresentation of facts which need correction. Every religion teaches good and so is the case with Islam but it is many adherents of these religions, who tend to misinterpret the teachings and try to impose it on others, either overtly or covertly, indulging in conversions and proselytism. This is especially so in the case of many Christians and Muslims. With the increased impact of science, technology and rational thinking in most Christian countries, the importance given to Christian & religious beliefs has taken a back seat in these countries. However, in the case of Islam extremism, fanaticism, bigotry, jihadism continues to flourish unabated in many Muslim countries, spurred on by Mullahs and bigoted politicians.
It is incorrect to say that Muslims ruled India for a thousand years. The Muslim invaders established kingdoms in parts of India and imposed Islam by the sword in most of these. Other’s places and objects of worship were destroyed, like the Hindu and Buddhist ones and women were forcibly married and converted in these places. It is the valiance of certain Hindu and Sikh monarchs and warriors that kept this scourge in check and where they could not enforce conversion with might, they resorted to subterfuge. Yet India, which is non-Islamic, has the second largest Muslim population in the world of all sects and they enjoy a much greater degree of tolerance than minorities in Islamic countries.
In Indonesia and Malaysia, though Islam was introduced more peacefully by through Arab traders, it is more for economic reasons. These countries benefitted from the Arab traders, who began conversions largely via marriage and enticement. However, the Islam practiced by most people here is not considered proper by other Muslims and extremists want to marginalize other faiths.
The greatest degree of intolerance towards other religions is practiced in the Islamic countries of the Middle East. Even in Europe and other Western countries most Muslim immigrants try to impose their own laws, in contravention of local laws and even become violent.
This is not to undermine the essential teachings of Islam but most practitioners have warped these teachings and have adopted an attitude of bigotry, fanaticism and extremism. This was a feature in the case of Christianity as well, in the middle ages but thankfully the sting has died down with the progress of rationalism and scientific thinking in these countries.
It must be stated that the Sri Lankan Muslims have by-and-large coexisted peacefully with other communities and contributing positively to economy and society. Yet, perceptions matter and incidents like enticing employees to convert to Islam through monetary benefits or teaching young children even of the age of 3 or 4 years that praying or greeting with hands folded together in “Ayubowan” of “Vanakkam” style is satanic (shaitan) should be kept in check as this tends to alienate young minds. It is okay for example to say to children that Muslims do not pray or greet in that manner but not denounce other modes.
More could be stated but come what may, the “Gnanasaras” in every community should be condemned and marginalized.

Because Muslims are not allowed to question the Quran. In Buddhism/Hinduism, you are encouraged to undergo a process of self-introspection. Ideally, this process allows one to deal with new situations in a rational and calm manner. This process is missing in Islam. One is asked to simply obey everything written in the Quran without questioning. There is NO pathway for finding creative solutions. I believe this is why Islamic countries regress, as opposed to progress. This belief that all answers can be found in the Quran extends to other areas as well. And when real problems arise, but people have not been taught how to find rational solutions, they become violent and turn to extremism/fanatacism/bigotry/jihadism.

You are not too far wrong. However what you say is applicable to believers of all faiths. Every believer thinks that theirs is the true religion and theirs is the true god. This is the problem with religions. Religions have been a curse on humanity rather than a blessing if you go by the strife caused by religious intolerance.
In an ideal world we can request the Sri Lankan Muslim or the Tamil to forge and identify with the rest of the community that they share the country with. However the Sri Lankan world is not ideal. It is full of fault lines. The majority act like the country belongs to them and that all minorities need to treat them as such. It is even ingrained in the constitution that one religion has more rights than others. Magnanimity to accept all humans as equals must flow from the top to the bottom rather than from the bottom towards up.

There is only one simple thing that is crystal clear from the Video , The quest to destroy the Muslim economically is still on , if you listen to the speech lines in between one will understand it clearly .

If Muslims don’t stop betraying each other like their cousins use to until sadly they faced the holocaust which thought them how unity is strength and today they rule the world , no matter what different thought they may hold in religion, the brother must thrive ,the community must thrive, but what I am afraid is , God forbid if The Muslims is to face the same situation they will not survive , Majority of Muslims are the least educated and most of them live below poverty and their sub divided religious dogmas and ideology prohibits progressive life and the rich dislike the idea of empowering and raising the livelihoods of this majority segment who are not educated and poor and it is highly supported by religious hierarchies by enforcing religious laws that block all progress and taking them back to stone age and the shadow Politicians protect such actions because as much as the religious hierarchies need to be parasites on these poor souls ,the shadow politicians need their votes .
The only two Muslim communities that rally take care of their people are the Shia School ,Boraahs and The Ahmadiyya Muslims , and believe me , the sunni hierarchies are very upset and angry about this , as it exposes their injustice to the poor Muslim Community .
Dear Rev. please do not go after the poor small time Mudlaiyas who beg and borrow to make a honest living and like the famous Aluthgama pavement hacker who had struggled and built his life ,his whole struggle was destroyed in minutes .
Go after the smugglers, drug peddlers and tax avoiders , they are the ones who are destroying the country ,if you are sincere go and pressure the government to end these. it is not heroism to oppress the poor and helpless .
