Cat Is Out Of The Bag! Chi Chi Endorses Gota, Says SL Needs A Leader With Dictatorial Qualities

Youngest Rajapaksa son Rohitha alias Chi Chi says the prevalent situation in Sri Lanka calls for a leader with dictatorial qualities if the country is to move forward and says ‘Gota baappi’ is the best choice to be elected into Presidency at upcoming 2020 poll.

In an interview, Chi Chi says the leader Sri Lanka needs in 2020 is one who can take fearless decisions and stand strong.

Laying the foundation for his endorsement of a dictatorship in Sri Lanka, he says, “Everyone talks about democracy, but if you take a look at the countries that have recently achieved development such as Singapore, China…they all had autocratic leaders… So I think Sri Lanka also needs a leader with a bit of dictatorial qualities but one who can also manage diplomatic maneuvers to manage the situation.”

The rocket scientist says therefore he believes ‘Gota baappi’ is the best choice as opposed to Chamal Rajapaksa.

Speaking of Chamal he says his uncle possess every quality a country’s leader should traditionally possess but is unsure whether those qualities will suffice to push Sri Lanka on a new trajectory towards development.

“He was the Speaker of this country, he is humble, consults everyone in the decision making process….he is experienced more than enough to be the leader of this country. But we have to select the most suited candidate for the moment. Like I said before, I am unsure whether his qualities will be enough to develop the country from the rut it is in now…” he adds.

Chi Chi’s father maybe still on the lookout for the winning SLPP candidate but Chi Chi is certain Gotabhaya has the attraction and the desire to serve Sri Lankans that guarantees a win at the upcoming Presidential poll.

He goes on to tell a story about the kind of ‘do-er’ his ‘baappi’ is.

“My uncle used to jog at the Race Course grounds in the evenings. One day, a bulb in one of the lamp posts had not worked…He had immediately phoned the officer in charge and told that it needs to be fixed by the time he finishes his next lap around the ground. It had been duly fixed as he requested,” Chi Chi narrates, oblivious to the fact that he is further proving the ‘Gota-bhaya’ officers were suffering from during his father’s regime.

He says what has led to an inefficient government service is because of having to follow systems. He proposes kicking systems to the curb and do what works.

In his interview Chi Chi also reinvented the Constitution of Sri Lanka and says the Lankan constitution mandates that the President must be a Sinhala Buddhist. He goes on to say that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is a convert.

“I am not entirely sure but from the information I have heard, Ranil was born Catholic. He changed his religion into Buddhism later as he had Presidential aspirations,” he adds.

In the interview, Chi Chi also shares more political wisdom and says the bhikku front led by BBS Galagoda Atte Gnanasara will be a deciding factor at the upcoming elections.

“I have even heard that he is planning to contest separately. If that happens it will be a blow to the Mahinda – Gotabaya led front as it would definitely cut down on our votes,” Chichi added.

Perhaps we are seeing Chichi baba launching his own campaign to get into parliament in 2020. If Gota wins, for sure he is going to be a minister.

“In an interview, Chi Chi says the leader Sri Lanka needs in 2020 is one who can take fearless decisions and stand strong.”

Chichi maybe right and wrong. If one looks at all the issues SL is facing, it is because of democracy. Democracy is not bad, but if SL is the right place to put to its benefits is a question given the fact majority of our voters are not smart. Why ordinary masses are being manipulated & divided using their religions and ethnic origins? To get a bigger voter base for a political party to win at the elections. So all these clashes, issues, mud-slinging, dividing, riots, pogroms that dragged/drags SL to the opposite direction are all linked to democracy in the wrong hands.

It is interesting if CT or any other authority do a simple fact-check of these Princes like Sajith/Daham/Rajapaksa boys., they seems to have admitted to 3rd tier UK universities and then there is no claim of graduation.

It seems they were kicked out or either gaveup for the fact that they cannot doctored the exam papers which they do in this so called Banana Republic.

Further I see these princes sometimes end up in Russian Uni which is probably controlled by the Russian Mafia and get a degree.

These disgusting Rajapaksa brothers were tolerated at the Anglican S. Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia for far too long. Yet he sees Ranil as having [Roman] Catholic links. Ranil’s father’s brother was indeed the outstanding Anglican Bishop of Kurunegala, Rt Rev. Lakshman Wickremasinghe.
    .
This Rohitha fellow’s mother, Shiranthi is a Catholic. Despite all that, he doesn’t understand the distinction – which in my mind is something that I dismiss as of no significance. But clearly, those labels matter to these thugs who have never seriously thought about any of the deeper issues of Philosophy.
    .
What this idiot’s observations prove is that religion should play no part in determining who should lead this country. This ass is supposed to have said that, “the Lankan constitution mandates that the President must be a Sinhala Buddhist.” CT, is it not possible for us to have a video displayed in which he actually says that? If not, he’ll probably deny that he ever said it.
    .
Pease readers, make sure that you use all three of your Preferences at the Presidential Elections so that nobody reaches 50% on the initial count. It is a sad reflection on our education as voters that very few even know that there is this provision for us to send a message more subtle than endorsing an idiot. Mahinda Deshapriya explains it here on Youtube, towards the end of the 19 minutes. It is in Sinhala.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xk-LgSdzIU
    .
We have elected Executive Presidents seven times since 1982. Not once has there been a need to count the Second and Third Preferences.

      PART TWO
.
Sri Lanka is the only country in the world that insists on a 50% majority, but doesn’t have a second round of voting – a run off between the top two – after Round One, usually two weeks later. But there is one other Election where a similar system is in place. Londoners have now elected their Mayor five times using such a system:
      .
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_mayoral_elections
      .
Not once has it been possible to declare the winner after counting the first Preference only. It is theoretically possible for the guy coming second to overtake the guy coming first in Round One. It would leave a bad taste in the mouth, wouldn’t it? Rather like the American System where Al Gore and Hilary Clinton had more of the popular vote than George Bush Jnr and Donald Trump respectively. In practice, it has never happened in London.
      .
I travel a good deal by bus, and when comfortably settled with a poor innocent, I ask Socratic questions – in Sinhala, obviously. I don’t usually tell the guy whom he should vote for – it will be resented: people like to think of their vote as a sovereign right. However, they like it when they know that they can tell the guy whom they finally elect that he’s not their great hero.
      .
Some will tell you that all politicians are corrupt. Yes, I say, but not all who contest imagine that they have a chance of making any real impression even. Many are quite mad, but some are honest whilst being mad!. In 2015, there were 19 candidates:
      .
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Sri_Lankan_presidential_election
      .
This was the guy who came third (after My3 and MaRa)
      .
Ratnayake Arachchige Sirisena of the Patriotic National Front with just 18,174 votes. Somebody planted by the Rajapaksas to confuse the Yahapalanay voters. Conversely, this was the fourth:

        .
CT had lopped off that thing about the fourth-placed guy in 2015 because of the 300-word limit. It was a “Namal Rajapaksa”. The Yahapalana camp would have hunted for a guy with a “useful” name. That’s the level at which our politics operates.
        .
I have now listened to the 47-minute interview with Rohitha Rajapaksa. More to come.

      PART THREE
      .
I’ve just sat through the hybrid Sinhala-English Youtube video which I had neglected earlier. So, please pardon that lapse on my part.
      .
Having listened, however, my views have not changed markedly. It is interesting that the background to the video clearly indicates certain other “declared” Presidential Candidates: Rohan Pallewatte, Nagananda Kodituwakku, Kotuwe Podi Hamuduruwo, etc.
      .
It may be that we just have to wait patiently. With so many candidates, a surprise is not impossible. I don’t agree with Rohitha Rajapaksa’s estimate that the UNP has a minimum of 35% block vote. Ranil has proved such a joke that I feel that it’s gone. Remember that the UNP block vote never had totally helpless indigents; they are people who have had Bank Accounts and the like. They have already deserted the UNP, in disgust.
      .
On the other hand, most of the SLFP block vote were always pretty poor and ignorant people – many of them quite decent individuals.
      .
I repose my faith in Nagananda Kodituwakku. Some comments from readers that I have seen suggest that Nagananda is going to be another MaRa. Perhaps that is because both use a good many Pali quotations (which I don’t understand). There is nothing wrong in that. I’m sure that there are a few million sincere Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Knowing, studying critically, the Buddha Dharma is a positive. I don’t know the Dharma well, but I know it to be worthwhile. That doesn’t mean that it is all true, and that the metaphysical edifices built on it are more valid than other views.

      0

      PART FOUR
      .
May I also state this: I’m not a conventionally “religious” person. I’ve read the Koran in English. Certain passages do trouble me. It is a religion rooted in its desert origins, then probably competing with forms of Christianity (some accepting the Trinity, some not), and Judaism. Many Sri Lankans are unaware of the deference with which Islam treats those two religions, “of the Book”. To make 21st Century Islam acceptable to the rest of Sri Lankans, Muslims have a lot of re-thinking to do. Try reading this article:
      .

      https://economynext.com/Pan_Nationalism,_Islamic_State_adds_to_majoritarian_nationalism_in_Sri_Lanka-3-14865.html
      .
There are Muslims whom I have known for long periods. They are decent folk who don’t spout Wahabism. They needn’t change at all; they must take control of the role of Islam in Public Affairs.
      .
However, “Anagarika Dharmapala-Sinhala-Buddhists” (Gauthama would have thoroughly disapproved of them) and what they are trying to do is totally anathema to me. A month ago, I made a Police Complaint against a guy who had sent a school-based WhatsApp Group (of which I’d been made a member) Islamophobic hate mail – the sort of stuff that asks us to boycott Muslim businesses etc. We just don’t need this sort of “religion”. There are other means of obtaining spiritual insights which are much more meaningful. Right now I am (illegally, it is true!) downloading all the works of Beethoven on to an external Hard Disk Drive. For me, that deaf musician’s heroism means more than all the fairy stories of religion. His faith in the Brotherhood of Man seems more real than the dogmas of the religious caterpillars.

      0

      PART FIVE
      .
As for Buddhism, it just isn’t a religion. It is a Dharma which I would have to struggle to understand. That intellectual effort is beyond me; our minds are sorely taxed by having to fight all these corrupt politicians. I’m old; before I close my eyes forever, I’d like to see some hope that my grand-children would have a happy life.

From the video we see that there are three candidates other than from the main parties hovering in the background: Nagananda Kodituwakku, Rohan Pallewatte, Kotuwe Podi Hamuduruwo, and (some singer?) Ajith Weerasinghe. Named also by Rohitha were Kumar Sangakkara and Sajith Premadasa. Relative to the also rans in previous Presidential Elections, these are all quite formidable figures, and rumour has it that the JVP will also contest.

      .
This is when I first learnt about Rohan Pallewatte. Inquiries from friends this month reveal that he lives in a huge house in Gampaha town, is enormously wealthy, but hasn’t so far been indulging in “charitable works” the way most politicians are wont to.
      .
      https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/rohan-pallewatta-man-who-has-proved-that-sri-lanka-can-also-do/
      .
I don’t fancy these last-minute miracle workers. Mahinda Deshapriya explains the system of voting at the end of this Youtube:
      .
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xk-LgSdzIU
      .
Let me get on with my life – and vote Nagananda No. 1. The strategy for us has to be, get Nagananda initially into First or Second Place. Pass the word around that Nagananda ought to be given the Second or Third Preference. Much of his campaigning seems to be through Youtube. Consciously access a few; Google will bring you the updates. The sovereignty of Sri Lanka is a dream; as individuals, we appear to have lost our right to choose what to listen to. Leave the rest to Providence.
      .
We citizens surely have a right to live our own lives, not totally controlled by Artificial Intelligence.

A majority of students at S. Thomas are Buddhist. The large college hall was filled to the brim and the younger ones had to listen to sermons through the open windows on both sides. This is about 10 times the number of Christian’s that choud fit into the chapel of transfigeration. The hinus and Muslims met in the classroom for thier prayers.

It is not clear what event you are referring to.

        niro,
        .
Accuracy seems not to matter to you, does it?
        .
I saw some place in which you had credited “Niro, the Greek” with fiddling after starting a fire. The reference, no doubt, was meant to be what is contained here:
        .
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nero
        .
As you will see, Nero was a Roman Emperor, but a guy who happily misspells “Transfiguration” couldn’t care less, I guess.
        .
I know that I’m being nasty pointing that out. I tend to turn nasty only when guys unnecessarily pretend to “know things”.
        .
It is true that S. Thomas’ has a mix of religions among its students. Strong preference given to Protestant Christians in Admissions; most non-Christians tend to be “third or fourth generation Thomians”.
        .
Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s horrible brother of Sri Lankan Airlines fame was my classmate.
        .
“Thomians” tend to be unpopular; the reason being that many are snobs. As for Rohitha, he doesn’t come through, during this interview, as having even “class”.
        .
What’s happened to the Wasim Thajudeen murder trial? At least in our time, we didn’t murder each other!

Heard the interview halfway. He could not say that he launched a rocket with certainty but was beating about the bush saying people don’t know the difference with satellites.

His comparison to country doing well is measured by how beautiful Colombo looked with flowers blooming and clean. What about the millions rotting away in hunger in the villages? This shows his superficial understanding of development.

His claim his father paved the highway was a bit too much because it started during Chandrika s time and the R brothers swindled millions in paving this highway.

His Bappi was the best part. He was not even soft peddling the idea bappi is a dictator, and that’s what the masses need so no one questions and no accountability. It is said Gota would demand people’s property and money and hold their businesses in ransom if they don’t agree. I really wish Sinhalese elect bappi ( for sure Tamils and muslims might not vote)

So, his father and brother are against Bappi but he endorses Bappi, So is there a rift in the family already

People should not follow laws and rules because they fear a Dictator but because laws are paramount.

    • 4
      1

      Dear Roman Leslie,
      .
Please give us the interview link, for future reference. As I’ve already observed, he may deny saying these things.
      .
I fear desperately that Gota will be elected, if allowed to contest. There are too many villagers who feel that they’d be nowhere today but for the 1956 Revolution (a bit difficult to dispute that because too many English speakers display contempt for “the hoi polloi”), and because of the victory over Prabhakaran.
      .
However, Gota’s being debarred is a very real possibility. The State Money spent on the father’s Mausoleum is the sort of thing that State auditors take seriously, although we feel that other robberies must have been greater. Also, the two Court cases filed in America may prevent his renouncing Yankee citizenship.
      .
On the other hand, a very real fear is that if the Elections Commission is firm, these guys may get Sri Lankan Courts to delay Presidential Elections. Just imagine being stuck with loony President Sira much longer!
      .
I agree with all your observations.
      .
      Dilemmas every way we look.

          0

          Dear Soma,
          .
Yes, Soma, you’ve got a point that I must take seriously, although the guy who does this sort of thing most effectively is Amarasiri, but let me suggest that a blog like this makes the point about the limitations of Democracy very effectively:
          .
          https://www.theschooloflife.com/thebookoflife/why-socrates-hated-democracy/
          .
I hope that you have noted the lengths to which I have gone to explain what the prevailing system of voting is. Also, think of how the behaviour of people is changing. Few read a well-reasoned newspaper article etc. What I am advocating is not tricking people, but getting a rational message across.
          .
Consider this question posed by a reader in a more recent article:
          .
          Steve / June 26, 2019
          .
Max, He had five years to abolish it . Has he just woken up from a long sleep ??
          .
It is to be found in the most recent article in CT:
          .
          https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/desperate-sirisena-seeks-to-abolish-19a-before-prez-polls/
          .
People like me have always been asking voters should be properly educated, and that the Constitution of the country is one that should be clear and enduring. When attempts are made to suddenly change all the rules, to outmaneuver opponents through legal moves, then we have to be alive to the resources at our disposal.
          .
Soma, you comment much, and often the comments seem consistent to me, but I can’t be sure because I don’t know your identity. So, I’m not sure whether your comment comes from genuine concern, or from seizing on a debating point.
          .
Seventy-one years after independence, it is clear to me (and to most people I associate with) that what we have is not Democracy but Kakistocracy. I’m not advocating a sleight of hand or cheating of any sort.

I am touched by your very courteous manner of countering a point.
You are always so. But “These disgusting Rajapaksa brothers were tolerated at the Anglican S. Thomas’ College” is a bit out of character by your own standards.
Don’t you think that while discussing Rajapaksas the fact that they are admired by a substantial section of the public must also deserve due respect and consideration. A glaring fact that you yourself are compelled to think of alternative ways of suppressing them.

What qualification did he have to become the Minister of Defense unlike Sarath Fonseka?

Nice statement to run people away from Rajapaksas.
Rohitha has made it very clear that the next Presidential Election is again a dictatorial family business. Not my words. They are his words.
There is no way Sri Lanka going back to 2010 – 2015 era where Mahinda didn’t have any say, which ultimately led to his defeat.
If anybody has forgotten, leaving the world in stunned disbelief, it was the most powerful people’s struggle in Sri Lanka’s political history that brought Mahinda back into politics in 2015, in which Gotabhaya, Basil, Chamal, BBS or Mahinda’s children DIDN’T play any role.
It is the same people who will decide who the next President is.
Gotabhaya can contest. I don’t see any reason to stop him. But, he will not be elected. Guaranteed.
Irrespective of party and colour, the entire country is yearning for a new leadership.
People are totally fed up with the current political setting.
I hope someone who is not afraid of Rajapaksas, will come forward. Even Rohitha’s statement can be intimidating to some Presidential hopefuls.
The root of Tamil and Muslim terrorism is the massive inflow of foreign funds and backing of their politicians whose double sided weapon is political bargaining with Sinhalese politicians. For an example, Muslim politicians are always in the government, and Tamil politicians always get what they want, irrespective of which party is in power.
This time Sinhalese are determined to change this destructive and selfish minority political bargaining which has now become a threat to Sri Lanka’s national security. More and more people are now sharing the same view. Therefore, it is imperative for Sinhalese to be united and vote for one man. That is why Sri Lanka needs a new man on the block who has a mind of his own.

I think, if gotabhaya comes, he has to defect his brothers and their influence as well as he has to ask FIdel Castro how he did it. Because US SENATE is waiting to summon him in front of a Senate committee just like our PSC. what I here, every one in PSC knew well in advance what happened on April 21s5. but, they want to know what others knew. I think they are looking for specific information. May be Maithripala sirisena has joined again the Yahapalana camp. So, it is a three way race Maithripala Versus Karu Jayasuriya versus Sajith Pemadasa. I here, Mahinda Rajapakse is expecting a similar alliance. Ranil, MR and some others have talked that already.

      Dear Readers,
      .
Some of you have expressed surprise at my muted praise of Champa. Actually, sometimes I feel that it needn’t be muted.
      .
We have no clue who Champa is. However, it is surely clear that he/ she is quite independent. It is very necessary for us to take account of views such as hers.
      .
I have obvious reservations about her last paragraph, above. Well, it is for the minorities to show greater decency than they usually do to counter her charges. My plea is that all this should emerge spontaneously.

        Dear Mr Sinhala Man,

are u that naive or do so ? We got to know that that Champa is a person who has never been independent. Here she or he would sound to be independet but she is not not.
        :
I confirmed this during that 52 day crisis, from what she or he had been posting to cover up former prez Medamula Wombat MR. He or she may be against Gota but please the sake of god dont take her serious.
        :
The kind of men or women being hired by Rajakashe-Wimal buruwasna are common in social media and other tabloids today.
        :
See even if almsot everything is becoming clear that SIRISENA to be blamed for EASTER sunday bombing, nothing MUCH – cocky style is published on public domain against him. Why ?
Even my domestic pet – LILY a Moped dog would know SIRISENA should be charged with not having done enough alrbeit prewarnings about eminent attacks on Churchs.
        :
I will come to see you Mr SM in July… please get ready to receive my email. I would love to have a tea with you and discuss all what we could do getting together to promotion of Nagandna K as our candidate.

Don’t worry too much about Champa. I’ve never supported her chauvinistic views, but I will not start attacking her the way I attack the more dangerous politicians.
          .
Let’s get on with our lives. Do you like German music? When we have tired our minds of thinking of ways out for our country, we could listen to Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert – got hours of their music videos, recorded by maestros we couldn’t have dreamed of listening to some years ago.

    Mahinda Rajapaksa’s youngest son Rohitha alias Chi Chi says the prevalent situation in Sri Lanka calls for a leader with dictatorial qualities if the country is to move forward and recommends {“…‘Gota baappi’ is the best choice to be elected into Presidency at upcoming 2020 poll…”}
We, layLankans, have lost the right to elect a Lankan of our choice as our President. We have to choose from a Rouges Gallery. This Chi-Chi-Thingy tells us which of his ‘baappis’ is the best.
    .
Let us not forget that this Chi-Chi-Thingy on 05 May 2013 (CT of same date) lost an Inter Club Rugby Sevens Championship Match at Havelocks Grounds. In full view of the public he assaulted the referee Dimithri Gunasekera.
Worse, Namal explained the incident as a misunderstanding. (CT of 09 May 2013)
    .
The Thingy took an entourage all the way to top of Mt Kilimanjaro, Tanzania to propose on bended knees to long time girl friend Tatyana Lee.
On the way back, he stopped over in Qatar. The then Lankan Ambassador to Qatar, Porter A S P Liyanage met him at the Airport and introduced him ‘His Excellency’ to the sundry and so on.
PS: How did the Chi-Chi-Thingy afford this? He never worked a day in his life.

    Rohitha, my young friend
For a rocket scientist with apparent double doctorates in Space Engineering as well as Business Administration, M Phil. etc etc., you still seem to have not matured in your thinking that a ‘tough’ guy who considered himself as above the law (therefore, a go-getter), with numerous allegations of corruption, mismanagement & even murder, a dictator (openly compared to Hitler) as the messiah to lead SL to prosperity. Maybe your brain is focused on rocket science & complex mathematics that you fail to understand that religion is a personal belief & it was OK for your old man to marry your non Buddhist mater & for you lot to attend an Anglican school but believes that only a Buddhist should be the President of this country. Didn’t you know that SWRD was a convert, therefore, a hypocrite (in fact was CBK a practising Buddhist?) & many PMs in the past, although Buddhists, attended schools run by the church. In fact, you uncle Gota has pledged allegiance to America as well. Now isn’t that unpatriotic to SL compared to a non Buddhist candidate who has not sought greener pastures abroad?

For some reason, you chose uncle Gota over uncle Chamal but your reasoning is not in line with the thinking of an intellectual, so why don’t you stick with rocket science & leave politics aside. I am sure with all your qualifications, you can earn your fortune outside politics & need not share your wisdom with the gutter media for cheap popularity.

Arthur, C clerk gave his estate to be spent on Technology related R & D.. Mahinda rajapske made an Astronaut in his family with that money. But, he was talking mostly about business aspects of the projects. Now I think most of the money is gone. Mahinda Rajapske spent that money in his family affairs, that is what happened I think.

Balderdash, if one would say ” SADU” the bystander would go on repeat it in SL, no matter, the substance of what being said and done. Hearsays become headline news for abusive media men.

Please dont give a publicity to CHICHI or BITCHI going by the situation. We perfectly know his BAPPI would make ” HUMAN FLESH” a supermarket item, if the bugger would ever be elected as the president of this country. Multi murderer tactics are in his profile than any good work done to the nation. No matter, what it is, he will go for it, following the steps of Chinese fund suppliers. Already now, the country< is made

Even though Hitler was a dictator, he loved his country. We need one like that. That is not a lie. It looks Some buddhists are not suitable because, they all have families. that is the reason. It is sinhala people who died for the country. Now, it is 2019, even now we are under the western/european colonial powers, In addition to Brown Sahibs or Kalu suddhas who are controlling us since 1948, now we have various groups of Minorities too. It is time to oppose it. If Gotabhaya rajapakse can take the challenge, people will support him. but GR has to understand the problem as it is. Democracy will not solve problems and it won’t produce us Rice and Mallum as coconuts are not there.

when the war was lost hitler gave orders to destroy germany. He said that the german people don’t deserve to live because they had not been upto his expectations of them.Transferring blame as usual to someone other than himself.First it was the generals he said were responsible for losing the war, then it was the german people.Fortunately albert speer who got the orders to blow all the utility facilities pretended to carry it out doing something token until hitler committed suicide.

“Everyone talks about democracy, but if you take a look at the countries that have recently achieved development such as Singapore, China…they all had autocratic leaders…”

He is correct, to some extent. In Western countries, there is a lot of bureaucracy, e.g. red tape before a project is executed. This means that a bridge or a dam (for hydroelectricity) will be built much faster in a place in like China than in North America. This is one reason China was able to develop so quickly. Even in the West, the Industrial Revolution made use of young children and women working up to 16 hours a day in factories. This was before labor regulations and labor unions.

I recall a lot of news was reporting Chi Chi’s girl friend as being Russian.
With name like Tatyana it sounded plausible.

Now it turns out her name is Tatyana Lee Jayaratne.
    http://praja.lk/english/who-is-this-tatyana-lee-jayaratne-bride-of-rohitha-rajapkse/

“Jerome Lee Jayaratne aged 53 years is a former cricketer. Educated and played school cricket at St. Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia, he subsequently played and captainedthe CCC. He represented the national cricket team although unfortunately, he was unable to become a test player

The mother is Deirdre de Livera. No, not Burghers. Old Low country Waluwwa family, related to the Samarakkody’s, Obeyesekere’s, Bandarnaiyakes etc.
What I found most interesting was that the de Livera’s claim descent from Buvenakabahu VI. of Kotte.
Not mentioned is that Buvenkabahu VI is Sapumal Kumara or Chempaka Perumal who became Buvenakabahu VI of Kotte. His son was Pandita Parakramabahu VII.

Chempaka Perumal is supposed to be the son of Manikka Thalaivan, a Karaiyar chief, who was killed in a battle mentioned in the manuscript Mukkara Hatana.

Sapumal Kumara is the person in Kokila Sandesaya

      Dear Prof. sbarrkum,
      .
Many thanks for all that research. I followed some of the links – saw the Sunlight ad, etc. Yes, I remember who the father was, although I haven’t actually met these people. I know the families.
      .
Good for Rohitha; must remember that we should rejoice in the happiness of young love, etc, but what is disturbing is that this Rohitha fellow assumes that we’ve all heard of his marriage, etc. They talk socialism, but indulge in outrageous feudalism.
      .
There are nasty things that can be said, but it’s best not to descend to the gutter ourselves. You’ve been very objective in your presentation.
      .
So good wishes to the couple, but my vote will go to neither “Bappa” or “Loku Thaththa”. That way of talking, as though they were the only people in the country who matter, was disgusting.

Prof: you are confusing me with my cousin who was probably your contemporary..

because of news, remembered other connections. Anyway the news was Oosha Saravanamuttu had died. She is the mother of Lt. Col Rohan Goonetilleke and Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu (Oosha married 3-4 times) and an aunt of Richard de Soysa (who was killed in 89?).

Whats pertinent is that, Oosha’s mother is a de Livera. You can find her listed on on the de Livera genealogy.

Rohan Goonetilleke is the father of (late) Archie. The skinny tall guy who was a fixture at the Royal Thomian, leading the parade around the grounds.

          Sbarrkum,

Finally I have found a dude who comes from the same Turf as me, although he is from the Top end and me from the Bottom but both seem to be on on the same Page….
          More about it later…

This Sinhala Man can’t be one of of those 3-4 , Can he. Sbrrakum?..
Anyway Mr Pakiosothy is one of the Mentors and Advisers who guide Dr Ranil to be above board and give us Good Governance,
          Is that correct mate?.

I just noticed Paikiosothy has issued a Red Card to the Asgiri Boss who normally chant Pirith to Dr Ranil .

And even accepts Gold Plated Atapirikara from Dr Ranil’s Muslim Faction, which now cuts across the whole lot from Wahabis ,Sufis to Jihadhis.

Is it nice for Paikiosothy to threaten the Asgiri Boss with Legal Action for a little slip of the tongue in a heated moment?..

Specially , when Dr Ranil’s Presidential hope are in tatters after Easter.
And now his own mates Galleon Ravi, Mangala Samare, Dentist Rajitha ripping in to each, and even insulting the UNP Deputy Leader and the Electorally most popular UNP Government figure Keslwattaa Kid ,calling him a High School Drop out who is only interested in building Bourkkus . aka Culverts…

Is the Kid really the Deputy to Dr Ranil?
Did you find anything about Keselwatta Kid on those Genealogy Sites…..
I am worried that the Elite in Colombo West may now start calling the Kid Bourkku President…..

Rajapaksha sounds like a descendant of a loyal member of the the Royal Party of that Kotte King who had that strange name Don Juan ….

It is just like the members of Ranil Party..

Pity they don’t give those Ge names or names based on the Jobs. and allegiance now.
Otherwise there would have been a lot with the surname Ranilhamy….

BTW did you do genealogy of Dr Ranil and Sinhala Man…

      Interesting stuff mate..Enjoyed reading it.
It is all like a Malay Pickle.

Can you please find out whether there are any Sinhala Pickles among the Top Rungs of our current Crop of those Yahapalanistas.

Nagananda K sounds to me like one who flagged the Portugese Gunners to kill our Balanagoda People.

Obeysekera.. who sucked them big time.

Sammarakkody who waved the Flag in celebration after the Gunners did the job.

Bandaranaiyekas are the herders of Bandas in the Village to serve the Portugese.
      Or was it British ?.

Regardless they were all well rewarded with Walauwas and Freeland to go with them.
I grew up in the vicinity of one of them in the South.
And I would love to buy it if it comes on the market..

Dutch I don’t think messed around much with our Kings or our Lands..

BTW, how did you become Sbarrkum?…

      • 1
        0

The easy one first; sbarrkum. The 8 (bcos 8 bit bytes) letter handle given by the university in the early days of internet (1989). First letter of name and seven letters of last name. I still use it bcos unique and
        a) recognizable by anyone who know the family (eg sinhala_man)
        b) If someone sends me an email, “Dear sbarrkum” I know it is someone who does not know me.

However, I have never being anonymous, if asked will say.
        So Sereno Anukkranayagam Barr-Kumarakulasinghe.
Yes Tamil; No we did not change the spelling to “singhe”
Probably in Tamil it was “sinka” or “singa”. no H in tamil
Many Sinhalese and Tamils insist on spelling it as “singham”.
All Kumarakulasinghe are relatives in someway.
SataraKulasinghe, TissaWeerasinghe, Puvimansinghe, Edirimanasinghe all are Tamils.
Anyway I am pickled too, a Tamil who cannot speak Tamil

The genealogy and history of most of the names you mention are all available on the Internet. The spelling matters in English, different families etc.
e.g. searching for “genealogy Sammarakkody” (your spelling) wont get the same results as “genealogy Samarakkody”.

There are plenty of books too. eg Kumari Jayawardena’s Nobodies to Somebodies.
Caste and Politics of the Sinhalese, Janice Jiggins

Note spelling of Jayawardena (Kumari) as against JR Jayewardene. Subtle, but Kumari is NU Jayawardena’s relative and maybe you know what that implies.

John Kotelawala Sr (Sir Johns father) was a Police Inspector and convicted murderer. He killed his brother in law Francis Dixon Attygalle to get his hands on the fabulous Attygalle wealth. JRJ’s somebody also married one the Attygalle daughters and prosecuted John Sn for the murder. The whole saga is available online.

The “brand” names are not secretive of origins, and who knows how much of reinventing themselves. Everyone in Sri Lanka is a pickle whether they know it or not and inherited names have a story.

eg your suffix Sumana-sekara (segara) is shared among Keralites and Tamils. eg Segarajasingam. Does sekara have a meaning in Sinhala

Illangakoon, in Tamil Illanga would be Illangai, i.e Lanka.
        Hetti = Chetti ?
Kannankara is a small town in Kerala. Kannangara?
Samaratungga of Sailendra Dynasty in Java

Even Keppetipola was of recent South India descent according to historian RalphPieris. Had a photo/hard copy of the original refrence a few years back.

          Sbarrkum,
          Another fascinating piece..
          Read it twice mate.

So Sekara is from Kerala… Quite possible..
Some Kerala Boys look like me .
That is what my Kerala mates say..

My Grand Father busted his ass making Battal, ( Barges) at the Galle Harbor.
But I never saw the poor man , because my father was late in bringing out his Progeny..

After reading your take on the Genealogy of some of our current rulers .I feel good. because my ancestors never did dirty deeds like killing and betraying their own to make a Quid., although they were shit poor .
And didn’t get even a block of land let alone a Walauwa.

Of course now they don’t kill to make a Buck.
Why should they, when they can do Betrayals . Bribe Taking and even Robbing without any problems..

Still you haven’t told me about Rajapakshas’ Genealogy..

BTW, Do you know where my mate Native comes from?
I got a feeling that he is from a Chettiyar from old Kittange in Kaluwella.
They must have knocked up a few Karawe, and Durawe and even Govigama women in Galle..

          Sbarrukum.
          Sorry Buddy. One more thing.
Is that why they call Uncle Junius Thambiya?..

No wonder our Muslim brethren have been all the way with JR J and Dr Ranil, through thick and thin and even after Easter Mass in Kochikade..

Is that why they call Uncle Junius Thambiya?..
Wrong connection. Its from Thombi Mudali his ancestor.
Website says Colombo Chetty and Persian (do they mean Parsi).
There were no Colombo Chettys at that time.
Colombo Chettys are Chettys who became Christian/Catholic and embraced education big time. eg Simon Casie Chitty, Muthumani

You can spend a lot of your time looking thru family trees here.
            No Rajapakses though I think.
            http://www.worldgenweb.org/lkawgw/index2.html

            Kittange in Kaluwella
Aha, thats old time Galle word.
A few years back the Kovil has bought some of the FredWick studio owners land and expanded. Do you know (late) Neville Wickramaratne.

Also did you go to school in Galle.

Culturally, I am more Galle than Jaffna.
Born in grandmothers home in Galle with Dr. Damien Kularatne looking after my mother. All my male cousins too, also with Dr. Damien Kularatne being the doctor.

My maternal grandmother was the Waluwwa money bags. She was the only child of the Mudaliyar Gerard de Saram Tillekeratne and a Dias-Abeysinghe of Matara. There is something fishy there, my grandmothers father and mother are supposed to be tall more than dark people. My grandmother was relatively small made, very light skinned and grey eyes. The rumor is old Mr Tillekeratne had relations with a Irish Nanny. When the child, my grandmother was born, adopted as their child.

The Tillekeratne name, as in the old family is gone. They were a name older than the Panditharatne, de Saram and Obeysekere. As far as I know, the last Tillekeratne was a classmate of mine who passed away a year or so back. We used to have chats on the mystery about my grandmother.

Anyway, you seem to know Galle quite well. Binge Handiya at Dickson Road and Cripps Road junction. On Cripps Road toward Dangedara there is an house. Now called Holman (Ghost) Gedera. It used to be SiyambalaGaha Waluwwa. Next door is a Church, AOG (Assembly of God), built by my grandmother in 1940.

Now for the interesting part. My grandfather was a Jaffna Tamil, a Govt surveyor. After retirement he continued surveying till the day he died. Died putting on his boots to go to work. If you have old (pre 1960) survey plans in Galle District (that is up to Ambalangoda) good possibility was it was done by my grandfather Sanford BeeBee or Mr. Ambagahawatte (not sure of name). Two Ambagahawatte’s father and son. The son was still at the old house at Richmond Hill in 2004.

My grandfather was supposed have no idea of maintaining class and status. On weekends he would walk down to the market and if the Kakkusi guy was pushing his cart, he would walk with him having long chats, most likely in Tamil. My mother and some cousins have inherited that trait.

I assume you remember, in Galle town (pre 1965) night soil (a nice word for shit) was carted away by municipality workers.

Another tidbit: Kakkusi comes from Old dutch Kakki Housi for out house.

For another day, how my father met my mother in Galle.

This is a photo of my mothers family. One of my aunts is missing.
She had got married to NOB owner Piyadasa Liyanage.
A no no because he was a Buddhist.
If you went to Mahinda, probably know the sons, Nissanka, Tissa, Nihal and Lal.

              Sbarrkum,-

Riveting stuff mate, I will certainly check those photos.
I am from Walawwatta, but certainly not from Walwwa , but from the Wattha..
              Close to Attapattu Walawwa.

Fascinating bit of History there, along both Dickson’s Roads.
I hope you still have at least a bit from your Grand Parents property, because it must be worth a fortune.

The biggest house in Bingeuda was built by a young guy whose dear daddy was a Fish monger in the Galle Market..
That is how the fortunes have changed since the Swabasaha kicked in..

I knew some BeeBees in lower Dickson’s Rd,
The Young girl I think had a crush on me, although I came from the Wattha,
But you know what , I couldn’t speak the language.. How sad..

Keep writing buddy, I need some respite from reading all those Lokkas still attacking our Watthe people every time they try to hold their heads high..,

” I need some respite from reading all those Lokkas still attacking our Watthe people every time they try to hold their heads high..,”

Is it why you in turn take it out on Tamils, Vellalas, Abrahams, Sam, ….. carry Mahinda’s b***s whom you think will find you the salvation?

Is it why you type Wellawatte instead of Walawwatta?

                  Dear Native,

Sbarrkum is a cool guy like me, who doesn’t care about Vellalas or Radalalayas or even Dr Ranil.

And unlike your Yahapalana mates, he does not brag about his breeding
Nor does he insult people because they couldn’t go to Royal and do not have Moms who drink at the Poodle Club House or the Borella Golf Club with their fat gut Hubbies specially from Colombo Central.

Did you read about his Grand Pa who used to follow the Night Cart in Walauwatta ,talking to the Driver, whom I don’t think you Lot would let even let near the Gate..
I am sure you know what I mean.

And the Grand Pa used to live in a Walauwa very close to my Wattha..
I know I was lucky enough to upgrade from that Watthe to Wellawatta but it is another story..
But I do not brag about it . Neither have I forgotten my old Watthe Mates.

Vellala Politicians lead by Abraham and Old Sampathar are sort of responsible for the current plight of our Sinhala Buddhists and now even the Plight of the one time Yahapala sucking Catholic Community.

Dr Ranil gave 34 Million worth Car Permits to all Plotikkas who got into Kotte ,thanks to those 6.2 Million Yahapalanistas.
Then Ranil paid them extra 1.2 Million a year to sign off on a Federal Constitution to expunge Buddhism.
Dr Rani castrated the Armed Forces , Jailed the Military Intelligence.
along with good Buddhist Manks .
And harassed even old Ladies in Medumulana to please the Vellala TNA and its Allies UNP London and the Diaspora.

Today our Inhabitants are literally Riding on the Rim .
                  -Daan Rim Eke Yanne-
And you want me to sing Hosannas to Abraham and Sampathar ..

It is so painful and annoying to listen to this fellow? it is not worth being published. Who is he? What class he has? Who is his mother? Still a convert katholika with dutch configuration. So this guy too has Katholika blood in him? Anyone with ruthless power and with the ability to abduct and kill, can certainly get things done through fear but not through education and motivation. It is nothing great. Idi Amin made suddhas to carry him on a pallakku. Hitler did so many things and even ruined Germany through his ruthless power. This guy cheeee Cheee. is an anti buddhist and he is denying what Buddha said. Attain wisdom and bliss not through knowledge or education or intelligence but through death threats and abductions and killing. Come on Cheee better do something instead of your two cents here. For humanity and for a civilised society your Uncle is a disgrace but i do agree that for a very stupid country like Sorry lanka he is OK and for that matter any idiot will be ok. If we can have Aiyo Sirisena as a president then why not any one even your Gnanasara or Weeramonkey or Gamon-Pulle or even Mervin.
