The CID today filed charges in courts against six people, including three navy personnel and three former LTTE cadres of the Karuna faction over the murder of the late Jaffna district MP Nadaraja Raviraj.

The CID told courts that the Attorney General has instructed to initiate a non-summary inquiry in respect of the six accused.
The non-summary inquiry will proceed in the absence of two suspects namely Sivakanthan alias Charan and P. Suresh who are said to have fled the country. An arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of the duo.
Raviraj was shot dead near his Colombo residence at Narahenpita in 2006 by unknown gunmen.
Following investigations the CID had been able to find the vehicle and the firearm used in the killing of Raviraj.
Meanwhile the CID has unearthed evidence that former Eastern Province Chief Minister Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan too is linked to the murder of Raviraj.
Charan, one of the six accused in the murder of Raviraj according to CID is a close ally of Pilleyan.
Pilleyan is said to have given the weapon to Charan, which was used in the Raviraj killing.
The CID has now sought assistance from Swiss authorities to arrest Charan who is said to be hiding in Switzerland.
Currently Pilleyan is under detention for questioning over the assassination of another former MP Joseph Pararajasingham.

The CID is quick to name th three Karuna faction Tamils – but keeps tight-lipped about identifying the three naval personnel.
It is reasonble to assume they are non-Tamils – wonder if CID could be less partial.
Seems to me that impartiality may be an excellent first step for efforts towards reconciliation, if that is indeed a sincere aspiration of the leadership of “good governance”!
