Retired Major General Kapila Hendawitharana, a former Director of Military Intelligence (DMI) who had been dismissed by Army Commander Sarath Fonseka as an unqualified “logistics man” was promoted to Major General by Gotabaya Rajapaksa in 2006, and brought back to the high post of Chief of National Intelligence, and given very broad oversight powers over all of Sri Lanka’s intelligence and counter-terrorism agencies.

Hendawitharana and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence are suspects in the several white van abductions of journalists, the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda and the murder of Lasantha Wickrematunge, all of what were done by the Military Intelligence under their command, according to the CID.
After being removed from office in January 2015, Hendawitharana was immediately given employment as head of security for the Shangri-La Hotels in Sri Lanka, where he works to this day for a high salary. This was after Rajapaksa and his defence ministry were implicated in the land deal for the Shangri-La.
After the ruthless terrorist bombings on April 21, including at the Shangri-La in Colombo, many countries including the Americans send specialists to Sri Lanka to assist forces in crushing this new terrorist threat. American investigators have visited the Shangri-La, where several Americans died, and are trying to help Sri Lanka to fight this threat.
But Colombo Telegraph can exclusively reveal that Hendawitharana, Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s right-hand man in the Defence Ministry, is an agent of the Chinese Intelligence. We can today reveal audio recordings of Hendawitharana, who is also the security head of Shangri-La, telling a Chinese Intelligence Officer to use diplomatic means as a “deterrent action” to sabotage the relationship between the US and Sri Lanka.
Hendawitharana is privy to American involvement in Sri Lanka’s new war against terror because of his role in security at Shangri-La, but his concern is not for his employer, in whose hotel so many innocents died, but instead for his handlers in Chinese Intelligence and his political contacts in the Joint Opposition.
In the audio recording, available exclusively below, Hendawitharana tells his Chinese handler to “appraise your diplomatic channels to work on the US-Sri Lanka relationship.”
“There is some development taking place for which the opposition parties, joint opposition, are making hell of a fit,” he warns. “They want to give Americans free passage for any requirement if the requirement arises for them to occupy Sri Lanka, even making use of the harbours and airports.”
“I am also on the watch,” he promised. “The government will deny. I don’t know the underhand plans of them.”
“Make your diplomatic channels aware of this,” the former intelligence chief tells the Chinese, “and ask them to take it up with the foreign ministry of Sri Lanka in advance as a deterrent action.”
Colombo Telegraph can also exclusively reveal how the Chinese have looked after Hendawitharana. In another recording revealed exclusively here, a Chinese contact explains to him how to provide information necessary for China to make tuition payments for the foreign education of a member of Hendawitharana’s family.
We might never know for how long Sri Lanka’s top spy has been in bed with a foreign power, and whether or not he was taking orders from the Chinese at the time he ran our intelligence services and fostered the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), while other Chinese entities were funding the Rajapaksa family election campaigns.
Now with his boss Gotabaya running for president on a national security platform, we have to consider that these are the kinds of people that he trusts with our most valuable secrets. What role will Gota’s former henchman play in his campaign and government? Will Sri Lanka’s American candidate remove the Chinese spy from his Viyathmaga movement and election campaign? There is lot of praise for the way the people reacted to the latest terrorist attack. Definitely that should be admired. What I would like to point out is this is nothing new. During LTTE terrorism, people reacted in the same way. During that time also worshipers and religiously important places were targeted. When LTTE attacked worshippers at Sri Maha Bodhiya, Buddhists did not go in a killing spree of Demala people; when Dalada Maligawa was attacked, Buddhists did not go on a killing spree of Demala people. When Buddhist monks were slaughtered Buddhists did not go in a killing spree of Demala people; when Muslim worshippers were massacred, Muslims did not go in a killing spree of Demala people. What all these situations demonstrate is Sri Lankans are a highly tolerant nation. But sometimes the international media and anti-Sinhala, anti-Buddhist groups pick up isolated incidents and try to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka.

Instead the armed forces and state sponsored paramilitary were efficiently and effectively killing people on a large scale.

Because of the decision taken by Portuguese, Dutch and British to bring slaves from Hindusthan to work in their plantations and a blunder committed by King Senerath who gave refuge to Muslims to save them from slaughter by Portuguese, native Sinhalayo have to go through lots of hardships.
In order to find a permanent solution, I strongly support Champa’s idea to give Northern Province to Demala speaking Hindu and Muslim people and ask all the Demala speaking people to move to that area so that they can live there happily ever after.

There isn’t a single person who speak Sinhala in Kerala. Sinhala language is categorized as an Aryan language while Malayalam is a Dravidian language. Give us just one piece of solid evidence to prove that our ancestors came from Kerala. We can give tons of evidences to prove that Portuguese, Dutch and British brought Demalu from southern part of Hindusthan to work in their plantations. British called them ‘Malabars’.

Our PM said there are about 600 foreigners who have entered the country on tourist visas working as teachers and asked them to leave the country. What kind of a dumb decision to ask them to leave. If they are on tourist visas, they cannot work here. So they should be arrested and punished.

This Government has signed an agreement probably I suppose with UN Refugee Agency to accept refugees. As a result there is a large number of refugees and majority of them are Muslims. Is this a deal done with Muslim politicians who slowly settle these refugees in Wilpattu area? Funny thing is these refugees come in ships. Rumour is this is a big human trafficking racket run by organized criminals. They can send terrorists in the guise as refugees.

“We would like to ask the media to please be responsible in the way you report news. Please don’t humiliate us unnecessarily or carry un-validated information designed to whip up suspicion and hatred against us.
I am the chief administrator of a Jaffna mosque. The Special Task Forces surrounded our area (where Muslims are concentrated) in Jaffna yesterday and went through all our houses with a fine tooth comb.
We are a community still rebuilding our houses after being displaced en masse in 1990. We share our accommodation with others of our community who do not have houses of their own.
When the problem burst last week, many Muslim students with families in other parts of the country, as well as traders with families in other parts of the country, locked up their rooms and ran home citing safety concerns.
When the Army / STF / Police came into our homes, we didn’t have the keys to those rooms we had rented out – so we had to break open the doors to show them what was inside.
Nothing of suspicion was found in any of our homes – we were fully co-operative. Then they came to the mosque and swarmed everywhere in boots. I begged them not to do that as it’s deeply hurtful to us to desecrate our place of worship like that – but all the forces were very rude in retaliation. They were clearly looking to charge us with something. In one of the mosque store rooms they found bags of loose tea leaf powder. We allowed a Muslim trader from Kandy to use the room to store his tea powder. We are a community still reintegrating into Jaffna with little to no outside help after being split apart in 1990, we help each other out like that.
