Former Army Commander and Presidential contender in the 2010 presidential election Sarath Fonseka has thanked the Canadian Government for its decision to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo next month.
“Canada cannot be blamed for this decision. We must be ashamed by it. Canada’s reasons for the boycott is sound and we are completely in agreement. Canada had the backbone and courage to criticise this country’s political leadership and his Government’s corrupt ways. For that courage, I personally salute them,” BBC Sinhala quoted the former General as saying during a ceremony to appoint electorate organisers of his Democratic Party.
Fonseka said his party was completely opposed to CHOGM being held in Sri Lanka.
He said the people of this country will get no benefit from the summit.
“This Country does not adhere to Commonwealth values and principles. So we oppose this. This summit is not being held here with good intentions. It’s all about personal agendas.
“Sixty percent of what is spent is being stashed as commissions. All the while the country is being destroyed and the people are being fooled,” he said.
Asked what his message would be to the other member states attending the Commonwealth Summit Fonseka said it would be to ensure as they depart this country to ensure that Sri Lanka’s Government adheres to Commonwealth values and principles.
“Otherwise Sri Lanka gains nothing from them coming here,” Fonseka charged.
“If the country’s leader wants to be proud of what they have achieved, then he must show willingness to respect Commonwealth values, human rights, democracy and justice. Without those things, there is nothing to take pride in by just holding summits here,” he charged.

Fonseka’s internal politics is upto him, BUT when it comes to foreign policy he must stand within touching distance of government policy, as should every other political opponent of the government.
It must have escaped him that Canada’s biggest grouse is the alleged deaths of 40,000 civilians in the final days of the war by his troops under his command. Whether there is any subastance to this or not, HE is the 1st accused.

It is the responsibility of an Independent Investigation Commission to establish the facts at a future date.

Ex General is becoming another Ranil Wickramasinghe or News papers are using him to talk the wrong talk.
Ranil wickramsinghe is very good at always choosing the wrong words at the wrong place and wrong time.
/
gamini / October 19, 2013
Wrong people always see the wrong side of others. These wrong people are the crooked in society. The crooked in society always think crooked things, do crooked things, tell crooked things. Nothing unusual.
By the way Jima, leave Ranil out, how was that Crooked Buddhist Kiss? You are so paranoid of Ranil, you must be haunted by Ranil even in your dreams. Poor chap!
/
mike / October 20, 2013
Yes. I observe that JimNutty has NOT given you a response on the “kiss” question posed by you??

JimSofty / October 20, 2013
Gamini:

How about so many christian Priests in the USA infected with HIV-AIDS ?
/
gamini / October 20, 2013
Jima At Last!
Could you kindly enlighten the readers here how many other things, other than Kissing, the Monk may have conveniently forgotten soon after committing them? Is the Bugger suffering from amnesia each time he releases himself like Duminda Silva?
I am no pervert, but I kept on asking you because you act the paragon of virtue defending these ‘Pseudo Labeled Buddhists’ believing they do no wrong. When the issue is pointed to you, your reaction is, asking how many Christian Priests are infected with AIDS? As a first step let me know how many Buddhist Priests are infected with VD and Syphilis?
Mike, did I not trap the Bugger?

Gamini:
You idiot.
buddhism and Buddhists are two different entities.
Buddhists make mistakes and wrong judgements through out their samsara.
That is why there is ditta damma vedaniya karam as well as aparapariya karma.
Buddhists don’t throw while they live in glass houses.
/
gamini / October 20, 2013
Aney Jimo,
According to you, ‘Buddhists make mistakes and wrong judgements through out their samsara’.
That Buddagaya Bugger and You, are living proof of that, not to mention the BBS, Ravana and all the Labeled Buddhists in this country.
I am jealous? why should I? I have done more with my two inches than what you have done with no inches and still going strong. No wonder you are talking of being Jealous? I honestly pity Buggers like you.
/
JimSofty / October 20, 2013
“I am no pervert”
Gamini you are jealous because your two inches does not have that much of strength to reach to a woman.

“This country belongs to the Sinhalese”
– Sarath Fonseka, 2009
But doesnt his name sound like he is Portuguese?
/
PalmSquirrell / October 22, 2013
Not only that but his Sinhala ethnicity is just South Indian and Bengali . He claims as his mother tongue a language that came with Eurassian Invaders about 3500-3700 years ago yet he clearly is not Eurassian looking.
/
PalmSquirrell / October 22, 2013
Tamils don’t worships Fonseka and no one has forgotten what he said; that does not take away from his criticism of Rajapaksa .
/
Nari Sabry / October 24, 2013
He is a die-hard racist. Not suitable to lead a multi-cultural country. Also, too arrogant to the point of calling his opponents Kalaveddahs.
/
Banda / October 20, 2013
For us Sinhala villagers, Fonseka was a hero at one time. He had become a traitor not because he contested against Mahinda Rajapakse but because he accused our war heroes as war criminals. Fonseka cannot deny this.
I just cannot stomach that kind of action by anyone. So, I studied a lot about Fonseka and wrote many an article and comments to various international journals and local journals such as the Sunday Leader to highlight his bad temperaments and his unsuitability to be the President of Sri Lanka. My aim had been to keep the general public informed of the truth and defeat him at the presidential election. My forecasts were correct and Fonseka lost the presidential election with a high margin.
We are eternally grateful to Rajapakses for everything they did to get this country out of the mayhem and the mess that lasted for almost 30 years since that Wadukodai resolution in May 1976. No matter what, we shall try to do our utmost to pay our dues to war heros. I doubt ex-General Fonseka will ever be a war hero again.

For Sinhala/Buddhists all Sinhala/Buddhist racists are hero. No wonder you stupids supported racists in the past and continue to do so at present and in the future.

SF is amateurish. Canadian PM’s boycott decision is based on a gamble to secure his future in Canada not in Commonwealth. Harper is trying to play safe with Tamil Diaspora in Canada expecting their support at next parliamentary election in Canada and not in Sri Lanka. By praising Harper SF is praising the very Tamil Diaspora who raise funds for buying weapons to have SF and his soldiers killed.
RW gave SF a dead rope which JVP craftily wove and SF ended up in prison. And now it appears that 5-seats in two PCs have maddened SF to make such comments early in his political carrier. SF must realize that he is engaged in politics in Sri Lanka not in Canada. He should not behave like opportunist politicians in Tamil Nadu. Prez MR has nothing to lose because when he completes his second term he is at liberty to decide to seek the mandate for a third term but SF has already tasted defeat in politics and he has to prove like a real war veteran that defeat is the stage for a victorious come back.
Whether CHOGM benefits Sri Lanka or not, and whether the expenditure is a waste or not Prez MR will have the last laugh by holding CHOGM in Sri Lanka in the midst of condemnation by very “super power” Britain for whose supremacy, the Commonwealth is maintained at an enormous cost to Britishers.
