You are spot on. The Mahanayake’s have neglected their sacred duty to weed out the impostors who use the Sangha for political and nefarious reasons. The problem is that the Mahanayake’s and the impostors both enjoy political patronage. Religion – Buddhism – should be freed from being shackled to politics. Relieve Buddhism from the ridiculous need for the government to safeguard it.

So, what is this nonsense about ‘courtesy bail’? The charge was an open and shut case of a very public contempt of court. The obnoxious Gnanasara should have detained immediately he defiled the court. The next we know is that bugger feigns sick, and since the Merchant Ward is overflowing, he will be sent to Cinnamon Grand or Shangri-La. Aiyoo! Aiyoo!

All in the name of religion. Do we need religions if this is what we get. What Karl Marx said about remain valid to date. ” Religion is the opium of the people”

It’s not fair that ven Gnanasara will be gang raped by LTTE terrorists with big co*k if he goes back to jail. After all he is a prime example of a political prisoner.

      FK:
I don’t think rebirth is real. Preached as a deterrent against doing wrong and anti social behavior.
If it was real this guy was a Skunk. Even now in human form is stinking the whole place.

we have already become a weak theocratic and therefore a failed state. religious people should look after spiritual life and govt. should look after the secular life of people.can our religious leaders guide a modern state aiming at becoming a knowledge society.with state of the art technology? then sampanthan should consult nallai adhinam/ brahmana and rauf hakkim from his . /priests/alims. for each and every issue. nowadays some clever upcountry tamil politicians also visit the great theros to be on the ‘correct’ side.with their brokan sinhala. ranil visiting thiruppathi is another matter.
