By C.V.Wigneswaran –
I took oaths a little while ago this morning undertaking to faithfully perform the functions of my office.
My office is a gift from my people. They have mandated me to perform my duties on a long term as well as a short term perspective. The former behoves us to confirm our individuality. To do so we have to learn lessons from our struggles of the past, our previous political perspectives and our past experiences and then forge ahead. It is the need of the hour that we remove the misunderstandings and doubts that have crept into the minds of various communities.
It is as a part of such an exercise that we decided that I take oaths before the President of this Country. We believe our decision would convey to our brethren our desire to settle our differences within a united Sri Lanka.
Our action today buttresses our close–up perspectives too, in that we expect to bring immediate relief to our war affected people. I hope the Sinhala people would endeavour to prod on their political representatives in every manner whatsoever to bring sunshine into the lives of our disturbed and affected Tamil speaking people.
I expect my Sinhala brothers and sisters to impress upon their political representatives that internal self determination does not divide the country but facilitate a journey on the path of unity. I sincerely ask the Sinhala people to realize that to the same extent the Sinhala people cherish and respect their language and culture so do the Tamil speaking people cherish and respect their own language and their traditions. There is no place for violence in this realization. None could force such realization. It is such sincere realization that would take us all on the path of peace and brotherhood. Therefore let my simple symbolic act today pave the way for the unity of the people of the two communities in our Island. May Divine blessings be with all of us!
Justice C.V.Wigneswaran
Chief Minister, Northern Provincial Council
*THE STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE CHIEF MINISTER, NORTHERN PROVINCIAL COUNCIL, AFTER TAKING OATHS OF OFFICE ON 07/10/2013
Wimal Sockanathan / October 7, 2013
Congratulations & Best Wishes to you C.M.
Your taking Oaths during Navarathri- the 9 nights of Godess Sakthi (Power)is very significant. Your Message released uon taking oaths is excellent.
You remind me of the great Leaders like Lee Kwan Yew & Ho Chin Mei who built up prosperous & Peaceful places from war torn Singapore & Saigon faced by enemies from within and from abroad
You have no shortage of enemies- within Northern Province, within TNA, within the Tamils abroad living comfortably in far away lands & from the racist Media & Politicians of Colombo
As a retired Justice & now the Chief Minister N.P., you should persuade the Colombo law makers to enact a law similar to the “RACE RELATIONS ACT” of England which protects all minorities and prosecutes offenders.
The Sinhala – Tamil problems started in 1956 and have gone on for too long. The time is now ripe to iron out the differences.
If not for Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela…..
Blacks in US will still be Slaves & the South African Blacks will still be treated like slaves in their own country by a minority white. Govt
You and Sumanthiran are faces acceptable to the Majority and together with the wisdom of an experienced Sampanthan , the trio are now in a position to win back our equality ,win our lost rights …without violence & without the intervention of any 3rd party or outside country’s Govt which has ulterior motives!

Dear Wimal Sockanathan,
I was shocked to read from your list of enemies – “You have no shortage of enemies- within Northern Province, within TNA, within the Tamils abroad living comfortably in far away lands & from the racist Media & Politicians of Colombo”.
I know you have the right of the freedom of speech (I know it is not available in Sri Lanka) but it will hurt lot of Tamils living in far away lands and those who have worked hard and made sacrifices throughout the struggle within TNA to unite the Tamil people and get the victory for TNA and Wigneswaran. In a democratic world you should expect differences in opinions and it is important for healthy functioning of an institution. Don’t categories people with different opinion as enemies.

Does that apply to Fatima Fukushima as well?

I don’t bother too much about Fatima Fukushima’s opinions because they are not worth to consider.

Fathima (Lorenzo from LW)
You are deliberately trying to antagonise our tamil brothers and sisters.
You may pull the wool over the heads of the folks at LW but unlikely to do so at CT
You are showing how stupid you are.
ps: see You Tube link of the swearing in ceremony
Interesting to Dayan J amongst the attendees.

Congratulation Chief Minister , as a Judge if you can administer the Nothern PC with honesty and dignity, allowing Sinhala and Muslim members to work along with the Tamil brethren then you can show the entire country they were wrong in accusing you as a LTTE lackey.
Wish you all the best to administer the Nothern PC in a statesman like manner.

Once again Chief Minister Justice Wigneswaran you have shown that you are the “Sri Lankan Gandhi”, all the Sri Lankans were waiting for. Do not give into the pressures you are going to face, keep your vision intact. Do not give into the Diaspora or the Singhala extremists. Be your own person and show entire Sri Lanka how to govern democratically.

Shameless Tamil traitor.
This is not what Tamils voted for. He has become a worse Chingalam servant than GG Ponnambalam and Thiruchelvam.
When Tamils lost the war, Tamils lost DIGNITY.
A curse for the Tamils. 13 amendment is LESS than what Tamilians asked for. Now it is even less with NO land powers. What fool will accept this?
On top of that this loser goes begging to the military governor and the military commander in chief. At the ceremony he also met DOUGLAS DEVANANDA. Shameless. Before the election TNA blamed Douglas for doing crimes against Tamils now what?
SHAMELSS TO THE CORE! No wonder these shameless people deserve NO nation or homeland.
President would be foolish to trust this double agent.
Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer!! But know they are enemies.

Ha,ha,ha…..
Wigneswaran has taken oath in Tamil. Why the govt. did not make it Mandatory to take oath in Sinhala when there was a mixed audience at temple trees??? Are the Sinhalayas aware what he took oath as and what he said??? What is the Use of ‘Sinhala only’ if even President Rajapakshe did not know/understand what Wigneswaran said in Tamil? The President and the Governor are simply blinking at Wigneswaran and shaking their heads.
Well done Wiggy. By taking oath in Tamil, you have made them look like fools.

When one wishes you and your team in the NPC well it is not only greetings to the Tamil Nation but to the Sinhalese and others in
the rest of the country as well. The success of the NPC under you
characterised by a good and sufficiently provided for administration, run by men of learning and merit, free of religious and other extraneous influences, strictly in compliance with democratic norms – will herald a message to the South it is finally time to get their act together.

You mean your old party, the UNP, Mr Sengu?.
If Mr Sumane, the TNA version of course is right ,your old party will be history if Shambandan put another Vellala team to contest in the West and get a another CM.
And the Homeland issue also will die a natural death or euthanized.
Surely Canadian, English. Swiss, and American Tamils wouldn’t want to live in Wanni, when they can have a pad in the Harbor City.
Wild Boar hunt on weekends perhaps will be on their R & R
That is if Vellala CM has the land and make it a tourist attraction to fund his new priority, the ” short term perspectives of feeding the war affected Wannians”.
That will be a win win for both Tamils and Sinhalese who only want to live in peace and harmony making a quid to bring up their kiddies at least close to the Vellala class of both sides.
/
Senguttuvan / October 8, 2013
One of those rare occasions, dear Sumane, I agree with much of
what you say. Its the same DNA, dear chap. Its got to synthesize
whether you like it or not. Remember Ellalan too was a Vellalan.

With all Good wishes to the C.M. his supporters. May he not fault or
flutter in the long road ahead to all Tamils in Sri Lanka.
It must not be forgotten that the diaspora is all out to support its

racist that wish to throw a spanner into the good intentions of the
diaspora is my belief.

Justice Wigneswaran will lead a provincial council deviod of bribery, corruption, nepotism and favouritism.
All tamils the world over are behind him and wish him well.
He should tap the skills, expertise, knowledge and resources of tamils abroad to bring releif to the war affected people.
He should meet the police and judiciary and ensure the Rule of Law.
The NPC may well become a model to all provincial councils,IF there is no interfearence, funds are allocated, and the council is allowed to make all decisions as is happening in all other councils.

A great statement that befits a great occasion for Chief Minister Wigneswarwn, the Tamils and the nation. It marks the opening of a new leaf in North South relations, a fresh beginning. The sentiments expressed are stirring enough to resonate well with every ethnic entity.
Forgetting all the unwholesome phases of the past, when there is an exchange of statesmanlike offers and responses from both North and South, there is sure to be confidence in the future.
/
Sunil Perera / October 7, 2013

Sunil Perera, Sir, I feel the sincerity in your greetings to the new CM/NPC and his team. I know millions of silent, decent Sinhalese – both Buddhists and Christians – want to see the North gain prosperity by good honest governance so that their own leaders change their ugly ways. I have always thought both Sinhalese and Tamils can overcome the
mutual injuries of the recent past.

Sunil Perera / October 8, 2013
Jim Softy,
You say….Lucky Seven also can go the other way.
Learn Astrology.
Yes it went other way to all of us under your Astrological super star guider Economic Development Minister who was a Director at NSB purchased TFC shares and then bankrupt NSB while trapping Pradeep Kariyawasam who is the husband of CJ Shirani Bandaranayake. The same astrological crook trapped CJ SB also.
Now the whole family is out of work and without income.
http://www.sundaytimes.lk/120506/News/nws_02.html
Also your Astrological super star built Hambanthota Harbour on a stone now drying without ships.
Same with Mattala Airport, Colombo new Harbor, hedging deal, greece bond, China Kung Fu commission, building off shore artificial islands and building 17th Airport in Kandy without customers and destroying environment.
What is Going to be the next Andarae’s Astrological Super commission project…….
A Hanging Ball Garden in the sky in Hambanthota.
Hope your balls are still hanging….in the sky. Crazy Sinhala Mattaya.

Folks all I can say is today is a historic day. A person of good social standing and a proven track record as an honest & upright man, brought forward to the political arena by our brothers & sisters of the nothern part of our motherland being sworn in as the Chief Minister to represent them by the President of the country who himself has been duly elected by the majority of the people. This is the first step in dumping our so called differences and going forward as a united people & a nation. Hope gutter politics takes a backseat and true statemenship comes to the fore for the sake of all of us. Our brothers & sisters who left our shores for economic or safety reasons, now is the time to understand the situation of our country and the people who chose to remain. 30 years of war started by hooligans fanned by shortsighted politicians left a country & its people in a devastated state until recently. We have come out of that situation thankfully in our life time and not left it to our children or their grandchildren to solve a problem which was created during our time or even before. A lot of good people sacrificed their precious lives on the whims and fancies of some misguided egocentric individuals who are thankfully not a part of our future any more. Certainly mistakes would have happened during a war situation and I am sure nobody enjoyed it. It is a cruel world today and it is happening everywhere. Innocent people die for no real reason at all. Hopefully our beloved country would come out of that kind of situation soon and progress towards prosperity which would benifit all our citizens irespective of their race, class or creed. This I am sure is the fervent wish of every right thinking individual in our beloved Motherland. Good bless our country.

A brilliant statement. I wish you and the like minded leaders within the TNA the very best of luck. Developing the Sri Lankan Tamil identity….in that order, proud of being a Sri Lankan and proud of being a Tamil, is now in your capable hands. The case for learning all three languages….so that a truly integrated society may be built for the sake of all the children yet to be born in that beautiful country cannot be overstated. Once again, my very best wishes.

Whilst appreciating your noble efforts, let’s try to be realistic here as not all the prayers, platitudes and well intentioned evidence-less assumed divinities are going to make an iota difference now or ever. If they could have then they should and would have tried to since our so-called independence from the British who left us with a constitution that indirectly favored their ongoing interests in short sighted manner and that of the majority community, even as it was stated by the very same person who was responsible for it elsewhere in the CT.
The thirty odd countries that proscribed the LTTE along with the USA and India are primarily responsible for defeating the backward, unrealistic and brute forced and somewhat mentally retarded and primarily self serving (approx, 20% for people and 80% for their on aggrandizement) LTTE and its now dead leader who made matters far worse for the very people’s cause they professed to struggle for. This is very similar in intent, purpose and outlook to that of the present SL regime though with the potential for far greater losses and damages to the country as a whole far greater than what VP and his LTTE has wreaked.
With the present GOSL’s president was and I believe still is only willing to concede a mere village level devolution with a personal mindset seeped and soaked in the mahavamsa mythological mindset being used as a façade and mask to promote primarily his own family and coteries interests. Little or nothing other than diversionary and obfuscating tactics and strategies may be expected from the present president and the ruling elite.
The CM, CVW and all like minded truth, justice and fair-go seeking people and institutions should all rally round together and seek the help with whatever stresses, strains, pressures as well as targeted overt and covert sanctions on the present ruling elite and its coteries to obtain a fair-go for its denizens, citizens and subjects from grass-roots for a long battle ahead.
