Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met Daham Sirisena at the UN Headquarters in New York last night.
President Maithripala Sirisena participated in the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York today, accompanied by his son Daham Sirisena who has no official status whatsoever in the Sri Lankan delegation.
When President Sirisena left for New York and when he arrived in New York the Presidential Media portrayed him as a simple man in contrast to his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa whose foreign visits were made with a large entourage with the tax payer having to foot enormous bills. These sentiments were echoed by almost all sections of the local media in Sri Lanka. Indeed pictures of him arriving in New York in a disheveled state was hailed as an example of his simplicity.
Sirisena rode to power pledging to eliminate the nepotism and favoritism that marked Rajapaksa reign.

The Sinhalese language and Sinhalese identity only clearly evolved and became a reality around the 9TH 10TH century. None of the anceint kings in the island never identified themselves as Sinhalese or Aryans as they were not. They were largely either Hindu or Buddhist Nagas( the Nagas were Tamil Dravidians). There was no Sinhalese language or people. They were still evolving as a people, largely from the indigenous Tamils and Indian Tamil immigrants and invaders, who converted to Buddhism. So how can there be a 2500 Year old Sinhalese Buddhist culture when there were no Sinhalese kings language or people?

This is an elite argument to oppress the poor and the lower classes and this is the same argument used to perpetuate the caste system. That is you are born with certain specific attributes. Some say the children of elite schools will not take bribes. some also say that people of high class and caste are not corrupt. But our experience in the Sri Lankan history has shown that those from high caste and class are also corrupt like any other. But sometimes the elite do these in a sophisticated manner where as the lower classes are more open and get caught easily.
But I agree with the fact that we have exchanged a ” hotu man for a hori man”

What a crazy lot talking completely out of point. The question is why is Sira taking his son to the UN assembly? What is his official position there? If he wanted a free ride well and good, but how come he is sitting in the actual assembly? He was also seen accompanying his father to UK and China. All that broo ha ha about MR’s entourage comes to nothing with this new nepotism. At least Namal was an elected representative. But this guy? Hmm …… New Yahapalanaya???

Sirisena said, before elections, none of his family or relatives will be appointed to public office or engage in other activities related with or using his power as President and will not waste taxpayers money. But he never said he will do the same after the election.
Managala Samaraweera took this young lad Daham on a training mission before he is appointed to the vacant position of “Monitor of Foreign Affairs” to see if he fits Mangala’s Specifications.
So what is wrong in wasting taxpayers money?
