Post Rajapaksa: Gullible People Are Being Mercilessly Abused

Nagananda Kodituwakku

In his 2005 Election Manifesto Rajapaksa, when campaigning for the Presidency for the first time, with full support of the JVP, promised to the people to abolish the Executive Presidency (page 97 – 2005 manifesto).

Then again in his 2010 manifesto, when contesting for the second term, Rajapaksa promised to take ‘whatever measures’ needed to eliminate frauds, corruption and malpractices. But what he did after elected to the office was completely the opposite.

For instance, he made the Auditor General redundant and irrelevant. For the last few years the Auditor General has not been able to audit public offices and publish its annual report, as no one seems to be taking him seriously. This disrespect to the office of the Auditor General has opened floodgates for mass scale corrupt practices running into billions of rupees.

After winning the mandate for a second term Rajapaksa wanted to strengthened his grip on power and he was determined to change the supreme law of the land, the Constitution, for his private benefit of contesting for office for another term.

In fact, President Rajapaksa refused to take oath until all impediments are removed from the Constituion, guaranteeing him to contest for a third term. Arguably, the most despicable act committed by Rajapaksa taking the country’s legislature and the Judiciary for ride merely to satisfy his greed.

Maithri MahindaIn his election manifesto (2010) Rajapaksa promised to restore Rule of Law and Independence of Judiciary, but what he did after re-elected to the office was completely the opposite. Showing his all mighty power, summoning of Judges of the Apex Court to the President’s House became a common occurrence.

When 18th amendment to the Constitution was brought in, the former CJ Shirani Bandaranayake knew that the said bill was a death-knell to the democracy and to the sovereign power of the people of this country that all organs of the government exercised on a social contract. But she simply succumbed to pressure and permitted the 18th Amendment without referring it to the people at a referendum. The said amendment to the Constitution was brought, in denying the people of their democratic rights over all organs of governance, the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary. With that became law, that entire government machinery was brought under firm grip of President Rajapaksa, including the Judiciary and the press freedom.

In January 2013, the Chief Justice Bandaranayake, who fell out with President Rajapaska by refusing number of unconstitutional bills, (including Divi Neguma) was unlawfully removed from office with a scant respect to the Rule of Law and then a stooge was unlawfully installed to occupy the highest office of the Judiciary.

From there on all appointments made to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court was simply according to his whims and fancies, completely undermining the integrity and peoples’ trust and confidence in the Judiciary. In fact, Mohan Pieris went on to say in pubic that in modern day governance the constitutional norm the separation of power does not exists and that there needs to be harmony between the executive and the judiciary, which he observed to the letter during his short term in office as de facto Chief Justice.

The same high handed process was applied to all the other Commissions established by law, which were made to function directly under the command of the Executive President.

Abuse of pubic funds and foreign aids and condoning of all criminal elements in the Executive and the Legislature was the order of the day. Office of the Attorney General was abused to withdraw series of Indictments served on criminals elements indicted in the High Court.

Under President Rajapaksa’s second term Parliament was simply made a rubber stamp. He abused the office to buy opposition MPs and it was filled with all forms of criminals, making it a safe heaven for ethanol and drug dealers, murderer and all forms of other anti-social elements.

There was no transparency in awarding of the mega projects that cost billions of the taxpayer’s money. When Mattala Airport, a project implemented with no proper evaluation was done, was opened there was no passengers to take flights from there. Bringing insult to injury of the people, when it was grandly opened on 13th March 2013 by the President, poor housemaids were forced to travel from Colombo to take their departure flight ‘Air Arabia’ to Sajah from Mattala. Hamabatota harbor, another failed project initiated with no proper project evaluation and assessment of value for money was no exception.

Now this greedy man absolutely with no control of senses talks about morality and what Buddha taught. And wandering in religious places misguiding the gullible people at will. It is apparent that Rajapaksa has not lost the craving for power even after duly condemned and dumped by the people. And it is very unfortunate that the majority of the gullible people are clueless about the true character of this great Machiavellian.

On 08th January 2015, Maithripala Sirisena was elected to office of the President to restore the Rule of Law and good governance sans all forms of abuses that was rampant under Rajapaksa administration. Yet, it is very disheartening to witness that President Sirisena has lost his way altogether, effectively abandoning the people who had placed great trust and confidence in him and brought him to office against all odds.

Theravada Buddhism is the root cause of Sri Lanka’s ills. In this religion the Buddha’s teachings count for nothing. Mahanayakas and their cohorts, who control the mind of the masses, must live in luxury; that’s all there is to it. They had a deal with Rajapaksa and all previous Presidents and Prime Ministers excluding Kotelawala: we will support you unconditionally, in exhange for enhancing our lifestyle, eg all of them were given tax free luxury car import permits. A great philosophy has been turned into a cult of idolatry and superstition. CT readers can get the idea; no point wasting time explaining further.

Unfortunately there is no solution – but to live with the misery – for ever.

RE:Post Rajapaksa: Gullible People Are Being Mercilessly Abused

The gullible people are very qualified to be abused. Those who voted for Mahinda Rajapaksa have an average IQ of 65, while Sri Lanka’s IQ is 79.

So you need to educate them. How?

Write Sri Lankan versions of the Common Sense Phamplet…

It is a shame that no Sri Lankan writer has so far written the Sri Lankan Version of the Common Sense Phamplet..What a Shame..We already had a Common (Sense) Candidate!

      https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Common_Sense_(pamphlet)

Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. The pamphlet explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence in clear, simple language. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places.
Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.[2] As of 2006, it remains the all-time best selling American title.

Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people.[4] He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity.[5] Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as “the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era”.

Truthspeaker, only a complete idiot would blame all this country’s ills on one factor alone. Congratulations on being that idiot.

Theravada Buddhism is the root cause; there are many other causes that spring from the root cause.

Comprehension is too much to expect from an Abitthaya.

So Theravada Buddhism is the root cause of bribery and corruption, nepotism, bad sanitation, low rainfall, dangerous drugs, prostitution, power cuts, flooding….

Yes you are an Abitthaya. How ridiculous can you get?

In Journalism and Research, Truth is a process…

The above is a Hypothesis with Supportable data. Is this a problem found only in Sri Lanka, or found in other “Buddhist” Countries?

Buddhism was taken over by the so called Sangha.

They called themselves the 3rd Gem of Triple Gem. Would you consider the Mahanayakas and BBs Ganasara as Gems?

      Separate Buddhism and Sinhala buddhists.

They all have to protect their civilization.

There are no Buddhists in Sri Lanka. The so-called Buddhists are those that worship dead men’s teeth, trees, the full moon, and the morally putrid decaying saffrons.

Lord Buddha is turning in his grave with revulsion.

I believe if a cancer would spread through out the body, cure cannot be sought easily. In the same manner, Rajapakshe kith and kin spread all the news painting the picture infavour of them. No power to the oppsotion was given, by hook or crook, they abused the rights of opposition. In the same time, Rajapakshes abused the war victory to mobilise their families. If anyone out of the minister of external affairs would raise it today, how many among the posts given by Raja admin wihtout going through the credentials.. almost 90%. For him, diplomatic immunity counted more than anything since his mind was very clear… that should be there, if he wants to grab the power of the country and nation. Telling fairy tales, those rural folks were kept away from check and balances. Gonibilla thoughts presumably to be the case form GENEVA side was fed with them. Today, under MY3 rule,
where has gonibilla been gone ?

Why no more Geneva problems seem to be appearing ?

Where has fears been gone ?

Election campaign was fully dominated by billa talks.. putting thunmulle wimala on the front – asking him to even imitate todays presidents sinahal talks… the very same idiots shamelessly come forward and ask people for another mandata is a joke acutally. Why Dayan cant see it right ?

It is the GRUDGE against RW… personal vendetta woudl never allow the low level creature to see right right.

You have written the truth/reality without any bias. How can the ordinary people comprehend this when even people like Carlo Fonseka is hoodwinked.

Our problem is nothing but one of Anthropology; how would have we arrived at the 21st century if we were not conquered and “trained” by the English? We were “trained” to do “white man’s” things by the English and now they are gone and the influence is waning, we are little by little returning to our true essence.

No “educate” man/woman yet see this to examine with intellectual honesty.

Politicians are our deadly poison. They have debilitated and killed everything they have touched. They are also our curse.
Where should we start correcting this mess? It is not easy to untangle this mess. Note the plight of the 19th amendment? It has not only been eroded, but has been rendered meaningless. I agree that President Sirisena has been made to concentrate on saving the SLFP, rather than this country. I hope he realises how he has been trapped. The President should single mindedly pursue the objective for which he was elected-SAVE THIS COUNTRY for her people. If not, we will be back to square one.

The Constitution should provide enough protection against criminals seeking powerful positions in Government to promote, protect, and enhance their illegal criminal activities. Such criminals who had managed to escape the net and reach top positions in the ruling Government even try to change the law to enhance their protection to carry on their dirty private business under the impunity vested in the Government.

We all witnessed in the very recent past how criminals operated without any fear of rule of law committing all crimes they wanted enriching them and their partners in crime. We also witnessed how they successfully crippled the Supreme Court and brought all the judges including the chief justice to their feet. They even managed to sack the chief justice and planted one of their suckers as a Chief justice to provide legality to their illegal deeds.

The whole country also heard of the immediate aftermath of the Presidential elections and how they tried to declare elections null and void but failed because of few decent men. The Prime minister had declared this incident to the people of this country, and he being a responsible person should take action against such dangerous criminals roaming free. If not Prime minister is a liar and nothing what he claimed had happened. If so he tried to criminalize and innocent man and then he should leave the Government and go to jail. I voice strongly and loudly, such people should be investigated without delay and if found guilty should be locked up in Welikada prison, and parliament is not an extension of Welikada prison.

A history lesson for you: The Constitutions provided such protection. The Soulbury constitution’s s.29 was removed by Sinhala Buddhist politikkas. Provisions that survived in the later constitution protecting the independence of Administrative and Judicial institutions were also removed. Those removals gave birth to the Medamulana bacteria.

We now have the so-called Yahapalanaya. But of course most of those holding power are also chronically affected by the same bacteria.

If you look around you will see that the Buddhist temples have now become the incubators for breeding the new and more deadly Medamulana 2.0 bacteria.

It is easy to brand the common man as “gullible” when they go against the one’s favorite political ideology. This same “gullibles” are a great bunch of people whenever they switch to his/her favorite side. This kind of laments are nothing new since MR came to power. It proves again and again how powerful MR still is. Among masses in Sri Lanka. If I were to quote Bertolt Brecht with small amendment, Mr writer, you can do one thing. Try to replace these so called “gullible” people with “modern” thinking people from UK, US or even Norway so that you can have a “peaceful” country with “intellectual” masses around.

After independence, we have slowly degenerated in to a nation that is a mixture of humans who eat grass and cows who eat rice. MR is still the hero of many of the Sinhalese because he finished off the Tigers. Their low IQ brains conveniently foregt the bigger contribution and sacrifice made by SF. If MR is a hero then SF sgould be a triple hero.

    Plain truth Nagananda Kodituwakku !

It’s astonishing how our masses don’t see these facts, can you please publish the Singhala translation in CT Singhala Site ?

On the other hand as Nimal Fernando mentioned when Prof Carlo Fonseka himself is found on the other side of the fence what can u say about the ordinary citizen.

I guess it will take few more generations for us to come to some level of political maturity. One cannot say the younger generation is refined either when you see the blind followers of MR, NR and likes on social media.

Really a sad situation. A country which has all what man wants is plagued by dumb ass politicos and people who make shitty political choices.

Can Sira survive if Ranil becomes the legitimate PM?.

Answer is a definite no, because Sira will have not only Ranil reaming him, but Cameron , Harper, Uncle Sam and even Suren Surendran will join the party.

The banned LTTE supporters are descending on Colombo soon, despite the fact that the US has openly declared that the Tiger Network is alive and well. And their fund raising worldwide is going on unabated.

Despite this US intelligence, Sira is unable to stop Ranil going all the way to please the Diaspora, after his MOU in Singapore.

Ranil’s mate from Singapore blatantly abused his position to grant special treatment to his son in law to rip off the Srilankan tax payers by charging several percentage points over the current interest rate .

And Sira couldn’t do a thing about it.

Ranil’s nephew who is the Deputy Minister of Defence has already locked up the Armed Forces in the barracks and is in the process of closing down 59 camps,

He has already cleared HSZ and handed the lands back to even previous unlawful squatters.

And Sira is totally in mute mode.

just imagine if Ranil wins a majority, what a pathetic soul Sira will be even half through Ranil’s rule.

This is only the National Security side.

Just imagine what Ranil and his dodgy Accountant Galleon Ravi will do to the public enterprises, Govt assets, and our valuable infrastructure which were built with Chinese aid.

Just imagine how much money our Tax Payers will owe Mahendran’s Son in Law and his Associates if uncle keeps Quantitative Easing through Govt Bonds at the current rate?.

Hio can Sira face even his loyal Sinhala Buddhists in Pollonnaruwa after collecting his pension from the Ranil Government?.

No wonder Sira is now seriously contemplating having a full SLFP government with Rajapaksa as well as CBK on board..

You are dead right.. but how many of us are among the nation ?

      That is the sad truth.
Either most dont care, .. stay indifferent, or others.. will go on licking the backsides of highly corrupted men.
If I were in lanken politics, I wouldhave gone to prove that the bunch of thugs that sabotoage today the peace process.
My bless is MY3 to live longer.. being not caugt by shootings of Mahinda and thugs.
Mahinda should be put in a jail for rest of his life is what my grand son told me this morning.

He is no doubt war criminal. If world cant capture the bugger, lanken courts should do the job.
Poeple willg et it. even if they are still in hallozination mode.

If Sira is trying to resurrect the SLFP, and not the country by inducting the two failed for Presidents CBK and MR, the government’s entire administrative machinery will become numbed and seized up.
The country will be stuck in the quick sand of confusion, corruption and worse if RW and his UNP also happens to get included.
It will be a nightmare scenario for the people in the country.

Who is actually keeping the people gullible despite the fact that Sri Lanka has one of the highest rates of literacy in the world?

It is religion – the opium of the masses! Sinhala Buddhism is a curse of Sri Lanka. The Sinhala masses are so blinded by it that the politicians take full advantage of them. See what the mahanayakas did when the country was being pillaged and plundered by the Rajapaksa family and their cronies. Did they raise their voices when Rajapaksa was using his powers as a dictator? No, they didn’t. Now they are keeping mum when Rajapaksa is desecrating the temples by doing politics in them.

Rajapaksa is a shameless greedy vile fiend who is using the gullible Sinhala masses to climb back in to power and as long as Sirisena clings on to the SLFP and ignores Rajapaksa he will pay a heavy price. He should immediately dissolve parliament and appoint new educated young people to contest the elections in his party and after the elections become party neutral as President of the country.

Sira has put off even JVP Kumara in less than 6 months since the Election.

Now even Kumara says Sira F… .d not only the SLFP but also the SLFP Govt and gave rogue Ranil the PMship.

Kumara says the SLFP is now totally pissed off with Sira, which has made Sira desperate.

JVP Kumara is no dill, although he went to bed with Ranil for a while.

What is Kumara up to now that the election is around the corner.

Anura himself f…..d up the JVP just to destroy Rajapaksa.

But he must know that Elite can’t and won’t sit with the JVP dumbos ever…

Post Rajapaksa: Gullible People Are Being Mercilessly Abused

    Gullible means:

easily persuaded to believe something. I am not sure who you are referring to.

I am interested in some of what you have said especially the following.

    1) Now this greedy man absolutely with no control of senses talks about morality and what Buddha taught. And wandering in religious places misguiding the gullible people at will. It is apparent that Rajapaksa has not lost the craving for power even after duly condemned and dumped by the people. And it is very unfortunate that the majority of the gullible people are clueless about the true character of this great Machiavellian.

*** Can you blame him. He still has the support of the Majority of the Majority and in a Parliamentary Election that is what matters. The majority are not Gullible and they know what they want. They only want Mahintha the War winning Criminal.

    2) On 08th January 2015, Maithripala Sirisena was elected to office of the President to restore the Rule of Law and good governance sans all forms of abuses that was rampant under Rajapaksa administration. Yet, it is very disheartening to witness that President Sirisena has lost his way altogether, effectively abandoning the people who had placed great trust and confidence in him and brought him to office against all odds.

*** MS is a prisoner of his past. Don’t forget he was a part of the Axis of Evil. But the sad aspect of all this dilly dallying is that despite overwhelming evidence to Prosecute the Culprits nothing Tangible has been done to bring them to books. For me this is Justice Sri Lankan Style and they will never face Justice. MS is ESTOPPED.
