Who Is Responsible For Racial Attacks on Innocent Muslims in Aluthgama?
Finally, after all these atrocities against innocent Muslims in Aluthgama, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has requested Muslim MPs to produce evidence for the racist attacks. This is a rather sarcastic, mocking request from our President. One wonders, where does our president live? Does he live in Sri Lanka or on another planet?
It is self-evident that all these racist attacks are carried out by BBS cohorts following the inflammatory speech of its Secretary General. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero has been inciting Muslims for more than two years and he has been insulting Islam and Muslims without any reason or evidence with false accusations and fabrication.
If the President needs any evidence he should listen to some of speeches and talks given by this barbaric, uncultured so called ‘monk’. He should watch some of video clips of racist attacks on Muslims in Aluthgama. What evidence does he need after more than 300 hundred racist incidents are recorded within last two years? All evidence has been produced to Human Rights commissions at the UN and in Europe. Let him read some of these reports to know what has happened to Muslims for the last two years.

Who should be blamed for these racial attacks on innocent Muslims in recent times? Since 2011 Muslims have been a target of racial attacks from Buddhist extremists called Bodu Bala Sena. They have been provoking Muslim people with vulgar words and utterances. They have used filthy words to depict Islam and Muslims. They have fabricated many unfounded accusations against Muslims for no reasons. Yet, the President cannot see the culprit.
You do not have be a rocket scientist to know the truth about this racist group created by the President’s brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa for his political gain. It has been his dream and long term ambition to become the next President by any means. He uses all government apparatus to gain popularity among Sinhalese people in expectation that one day he would be elected as President of Sri Lanka. He uses his religious card to gain popularity among people. Racism is his tool and the extremist BBS monks are his henchmen. He has indeed, openly supported BBS and provided them financial support. It is he who provides vehicles and security for these BBS gangs, he opened the BBS office building in Galle, he protected them from court jurisdiction many times.
Judges and law enforcement agencies are prevented from litigating against BBS, since he has asked police not to take action against them. He gave them permission to demonstrate in Muslim areas. He let BBS insult Islam and Muslims. All of this is to gain popularity among Sinhalese voters for the next election, to assure himself of a place in parliament in expectation of becoming the next President of Sri Lanka.
Within the last two years more than 300 hundred incidents have taken place against Muslims across the country; all of them have taken place with the approval and recognition of this so called, self-declared Defence Secretary.
It is understood that most senior SLFP members are dissatisfied with Rajapaksa family politics. Most senior SLFP MPs are powerless today in Sri Lankan politics and they have been made to bow down to the commandments of the Rajapaksa family.
More importantly, a self-declared Defence Secretary controls everyone in the party. This family domination of politics has been agonising for some of these senior SLFP members and they have already decided to teach a lesson to the Rajapakse family. They have been waiting to extract revenge in the coming election and the Rajapakse family knows this very well. This is a ‘do or die’ situation for them as well. In order to allure Sinhalese voters they have created this monster called the BBS in Sri Lanka. I think most Sinhalese people know that well and they are clever enough to distinguish the truth from falsehood.
What happened last Sunday in Aluthgama was a well planned attack on Muslims. Who gave the BBS permission to undertake this demonstration in a Muslim town? Why do these robed thugs need to demonstrate? This is deliberately done to unleash attacks on innocent Muslims. What crimes have these innocent Muslims committed for them to be killed in cold blood? What did Muslims do to these thugs to burn down their houses? This is really a collective act of barbarism by these inhuman mobs. You could say that the LTTE killed thousands of Sinhalese. They killed more than 27,000 Sri Lankan forces. They attacked many Buddhist temples. At least one could argue that there was some reason for wiping out the LTTE because they wanted to divide this small country. What crimes have Muslims in this country committed? Why do these mobs target innocent Muslims? This government is entirely responsible and accountable for all that happened in these attacks. Blood thirsty Gota is directly responsible for all this barbarism. He should be taken to court for his role in this killing spree.
So what should be done now? There is clear cut evidence that all these anti-minority attacks have been instigated by BBS and its cohorts. Now it is responsibility of this government to take some measures to ban this group in the interest of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans. Bring those attackers to book, produce them in court and punish them accordingly. There should be no hiding place for them. All events have been recorded with video evidence, enabling the Police to produce this video evidence in court.
Recent events amount to brazen robbery and looting. What is BBS is going achieve by burning down Muslim houses and businesses? What do they achieve by creating mayhem and misery in the lives of poor people? It is reported that household items and jewellery were looted before burning down their houses, while the police looked on
The general secretary of BBS should be put in jail for his hatred speech and violence against Muslims in this country. We have recorded evidences of many of his hate speech against Muslims and Islam. These should be produced in court and translated into documents. These documents should then be sent to international Human Rights groups, and UNHCR. The entire world should know exactly what happens in Sri Lanka.
Now people need to rebuild their houses and businesses, restart their life once again. It is the duty of this government to allocate money from public funds to help them rebuild life. Do the perpetrators not realise it is public money that will be spent on the rebuilding process? It is the wealth and resources of this country they have burned down. If they are true patriots of Sri Lanka they would not have done this. They are destroying Sri Lanka bit by bit through these violent activities, and it is economy of our nation that is going to suffer because of the stupidity of these people. Now it is time to apprehend the culprits and mobs involved in this violence. We hope that the President will act swiftly.
I conclude this article with a quote of Dr Dayan Jayatilleka, who calls upon people of Sri Lanka to be united to wipe out this racist mob. “The officer corps of the Sri Lankan military, the bureaucracy, the judiciary, the corporate sector, the trade unions, the student unions, the professionals, the political parties, the media, the intelligentsia, the international system (including Sri Lanka’s friends) should all be made aware of how destructive the BBS project is to their interests and should be motivated to oppose and defeat it. The most effective weapons to stop the march of the BBS are an intelligent patriotism, a reasoned appeal to Sinhala interests and a more authentic, generously inclusive and pluralist Buddhism”.

Maghribi, I think those who are messing up peace in Sri Lanka is not BBS but Thawheeds/fundermentalists. They have cow down Sufi teachings and traditional Islamic culture in Sri Lanka. Did you Thawheeds not started a fight with Qadiri Sufi order Buhkary Thakiyya in Beruwala and killed two people and injured forty on 25rd of July 2009 in a do or die fight. Traditional Sufi Muslims understand the core values that can unite Sri Lankan citizens. Unfortunately traditional Customs and rituals of the Sri Lanka Muslims are no more. But Wahabi and Salafi Tawheeds who are trained in Saudi couldn’t care less about unity or Sri Lankan values. Tawheeds want Sri Lanka Muslims to follow extreme traditions of Wahhabis and Salafi.
You’ll see, traditional Customs and rituals of the Sri Lanka Muslims are no more. Unlike just twenty or thirty years back, Females donned in Niqab and hajjab has become a common sight in our cities. In the back of their three-wheelers they openly display, ‘there is no God but Allah’. ‘Azan’ insulting other Gods would deafen anyone. You’ll see that Tawheeds have succeeded in clamping down Sufism and Moderation and Traditionalism.
Friday sermons in most mosques have become an expansion for the Wahhabi and Salafi Tawheed ideology. Needless to say, it adds fuel to the burning hearts of young Muslims. They wanted to even look Arab. In that they have even planted date plants in Kathankoody. That’s ok, but ACJU and Tawheeds came up with a stratagem to feed us with nothing but ‘Halal’. They even got a Muslim parent to petition SC to allow their children don in Niqab to a Buddhist school on the strength of religious freedom granted by the constitution. They act as if they wanted to beat the majority Sinhala Buddhists. Tawheeds are testing our limits. And BBS became phenomenal success.
Tamils in general know you are extremists. So, they too do not like you Thawheed lot. Have you forgotten, Velu slaughtered 150 of your kith and kin while prostrating for issa prayers in Kattankudy mosques and before that chased tens of thousands men women and children out of Jaffna with no notice. What have you done to him? nothing.

For example a 1996 report on Human rights AI accused the sinhalese and muslim homeguards of engaging in arbitrary arrests, torture, disappearances and extrajudicial executions in the North and East. More recently media reports have emerged highlighting the thuggery unleased by a Muslim minister in go
vernment and his brother against the independent media and the judiciary. Amid this background, the global events and the rapid spread of information means Muslim community in Sri Lanka will naturally be viewed both through the global and local lens. This is all the more reason why Muslim politicians ought to distance themselves from this regime and its machinations rather than hanging on to ministerial portfolios for petty gains.

One thing that is really surprising about what happened in Aluthgama is how the Police, despite the pleas of Muslim leaders, allowed the BBS procession to go ahead, when it should have been very clear to the Police – as it seems to have been to everyone else – that a breach of the peace was very likely. The track record of the BBS and the incident that had occurred a few days before were clear indications of likely trouble. The Police have a case to answer.
And by the way, where was the special Police outfit that was recently created to be handle religious problems and disputes?

As has been recently dis covered there has been, over a number of years, a sustained secret operation to takeover schools in the UK and enforce Islamic traditions, customs and methods of behaviour.
Serious consideration of Muslim demands for fairness and justice requires a widening of the parameters of discussion to a global perspective. Such an exercise must take into account the fact that in many Muslim countries it is a criminal offence to practice another religion and in others like Pakistan while being legal in theory its practice may well result in death.
Violence is deplorable. However, when a non-evangelical philosophy like Buddhism and a non-evangelical religion like Hinduism confront a religion that is hell bent on converting the whole world to Islam, conditions for violence will arise.
Venerable Gnanasara may disgust the immodest self styled intellectuals in Sri Lanka, but while we deplore violence, his speeches reflect emotions and concerns that those of us to whom our language, culture, tradition and Dhamma are real and living part of life do identify with.

Those Muslims who call this island their home are not going anywhere. This island is not their host country but their own country and they too have a claim of ownership over this land.

Who cast the first stone in Aluthgama.
Starting a debate about Aluthgama riots in parliament, opposition leader, Ranil Wickramasinghe asked how riots started and what business Buddhists monks have in Darga town. Ranil didn’t know that Pathirajagoda temple is located in Darga town and ven. Ayagama Samitha who was attacked by some Muslim youth and then hospitalized on Poson Poya day lives there. In his reply PM said everything but not about the road to Pathirajagoda Temple from Aluthgama town lay a Muslim mosque in Darga town.
Al Jazeera news said “Riots by Sinhala Buddhist mobs targeting the Muslim population.” CNN says, “3 Muslims killed in Buddhist mob attacks in Sri Lanka.” That was typical of all reporting. None reported how and who started the riots.
This year’s Poson Poya day had been a fateful day. Ven Ayagama Samitha was on this way to a Bana (sermon), and his vehicle had unexpectedly bottlenecked with a vehicle in which some Muslim youth were travelling. None wanted to back and clear the way for the other to pass. They got into an argument with the driver and ended in a scuffle. The monk was hospitalized and a complaint was made to the police. But the police didn’t apprehend the offenders and that sets a set of events that lead to the mayhem that followed.
When ven Samitha was checked out of the hospital on the following day, and there was a reception to receive him at Aluthgama town by BBS. After the reception Ven. Samitha was taken to his temple in a procession.

To start with, we cannot see any participant carrying any stone like things in their hands or as they were marching ready for trouble. All were walking in absolute calm and quiet.
Now observe what Muslim elder with a pres-cap in the video clip doing while people were walking by calm and quiet? The said man had raised his both hands to tell or signal someone or many in an upstairs of a side building of something. The way the man was waving his hands, indicate that something is going on in that building and the man was concerned about it and therefore signalled them not to do that ‘something’.
Continue to watch the clip carefully. Few moments in to action by the pres-cap man, two other men joined him to do exactly the same thing what the pres-cap man was doing. All of them were gesturing upstairs with their hands not to do that ‘something’. After that, I guess, things must have thrown at the procession for then only people in the procession started to throw thing back at where those three men was gesturing to. There had been no report to say those three men (apparently Muslim) were beaten.
So, the vital question is, who threw things first? Cannot it be here that the first stone was thrown that started the mayhem? Police could easily check on this information and analysis and take it as a lead to expand their investigation.

My comment was an invitation to respond to some concerns not just in Sri Lanka but internationally. I am not anti Muslim. The above are from your comment and tone and content add illustration to a problem. In is necessary to listen and answer concerns and such language is unconstructive. Answer concerns and questions, have a discussion. Talking itself creates an environment conducive to solutions. Such language Mr Veddah though not abusive raises the temperature of the tone. In Sri Lanka issues are only discussed when destructive situations erupt. We should therefore make allowance for the fact that human beings are not always masters of the language they use especially on occasions such as this.
You have chosen not to comment on the fact of violent intolerance in Muslim countries.
You have chosen not to comment on the situation in the UK where the government has in effect ordered their security services to commence a thorough investigation of the activities of various organisations related to the Muslim community.
As I said in my comment that for example, no other community in the UK has this problem with their fellow citizens. The UK is a country whose Judeo/Christian heritage that has shaped its culture, heritage, traditions, Politics and Law, and is appreciated by all its citizens, indigenous and migrant bar members of the Muslim community. That tradition in the UK includes such principles of the total equality of the sexes and a tolerance towards religion that takes place within a system in which the traditional supremacy of the Anglican church is accepted. The Jews who have made great contributions in almost every sphere arrived in Britain in 1066. Today they have had to secure their synagogues and cemeteries in the face of desecration by Islamist groups. All these are issues and they arise from factual evidence.
