How come the judges failed to see the way that JVPers have very clearly pointed out that paragraphs were read supporting their concerns. Are judges are fully under MR regime ?

This s high time where commonwealth fellow nations have to see it clearly – whether the srilanken JUDICIARY is compliant to the commonwealth values- keeping the srilanken state as the chair person for an another year. THis is a great joke- or entire world is hailing this bugger as a man who respect the laws ?

In the country, where Rajapakshe men killed Baratha and Barthas murder was protected by Rajapakshe today, what cant happen. This is the reality of a country whose future is only based on stupid rural folks. Game bayyas know nothing but their might elect the ballige puthas to govern this country leaving various kinds of good personalities away from being elected.

COmmonwealth is made a laughting body by the silence of powerful allies not reacting adequately. If they reacted against Zimbabwe, they should also be able to do the same towards SRILANKEN currently ruled by a dictator no comparable to any times before. CBK or any other leaders never ruled to this abysmal levels.

This is a great INSULT to THE QUEEN.

How true you are, Seelawathi s son:)

There is no respect, dignity and human rights so long the man in power is there. THat is for sure. But lanken elections are on the hands of the rural poor people. The intelligent ones would do nothing just will have to live up with the realites. THis is the wrong side of the coin – in terms of so called democracies. I believe and respect SPD of Germany – social democratic party politics… we need honest leaderships to take over the lead of the country. MR has no no whatsover honesty in his nature, he is the most corrupted man to have been elected by srilanken folks since indepenence. If CBK is accused to have supported corurptions, MR is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times highly corrupted as the general public would NOT be able to grasph it. As a cancer is reached to metastaic states, MR s far abusive tactics have been in place by his goons so that people will not get it easiy.

MR made himself eligible based on a ‘2/3rd majority’…. It will be interesting to see him getting the same ‘2/3rd majority’ through the ballot box!

Failure to do so, me think the ‘referendum’ clause in the constitution ceases to be valid.

Me no lawyer…. just an observation.

How can they go against the paragraphs containing in the constitution ? as if the entire srilankens are the idiots that know nothing but to follow the ruling bunch ?

You dont need to be a lawyer to get this right ? Every right thinking academic or non academic would see, that the bugger in power has taken the law to his hand being associated to COUNTRYs judiciary. This further proves that there is ZERO justice remained in this country towards its citizens. So whatever elections would be held, no validity at all of their results. This is just a made IRC land

I forgive the Supreme Court of SL. Coz’ I do understand their plight.

Sri Lanka’s only salvation now will be judgment in People’s Court.

I am not too upbeat about that either:
      1. Population will be deceived via manipulated mass media.
      2. Gil-Mart election tactics will be implemented to the fullest.
      3. Unprecedented pre & post-election violence will be a given.
      4. Opposition is in disarray. Still looking for a leader/candidate with the required charisma, track record, intellect & back bone to give The King a run for his money.
      5. List goes on…

However, worse dictators have been toppled. Despite the realistic gloom we face, I am optimistic.

If we all pull together. With the same goal. In the same direction. On a big picture based, give & take basis. In the interest of Sri Lanka.

In such a scenario, current dictator who is ruining everything in Sri Lanka, his cronies & henchmen need to start double-checking their back-up plans & escape routes.

Nobody can play this kind of games with the destiny of 20 million people without facing grave consequences.

      Cheers!

Similar names of other democratic republics:

        Ben,

There will be no people’s court in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankans are not a smart lot. Since independance we have voted the lowest calibre utterly inept base manipulators and those with the atypical Sri Lankan penchant of self glorification as our politicians. Whether we have the MARA mafia family in control or the backboneless RW in control the results are going to be somewhat similar.

So don’t bust your guts Ben, we are what we are and deserve the kind of dictatorial administration that we will get.

But he aoided giving a written submission to the supreme court, because he had nothing to say against the question.

    Writers and All Others,

“The Supreme Court yesterday communicated its opinion to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the constitutionality of contesting for a third term under the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, saying Rajapaksa can contest for a third term in office, the Leader of the House and Minister Nimal Siri Pala De Silva informed the parliament today.”

Medamulana Mahinda Rajapaksa won the 3rd term battle.

The War is not over yet.

Writers, where is the Common Sense Pamphlet for Sri Lankans? Do We need an american like Thomas Paine of 1776 to do it for you?

Where is it? Is it Done yet? I Mean the Sri Lanka Version of the Common Sense Pamphlet. Just Do It!

Whatever opposition candidate comes forward, there need to be exposure of MaRa corruption and nepotism. There is a dire need for a Common Sense Pamphlet, like what Thomas Paine did in 1776 for the American revolution, exposing King George III.

What can writers and other do? Expose.. Expose and Expose the Mara regime.
What can the writers do? Expose. what can the people do? Vote against MaRa and the criminal gang.

Writers, can you be the Anonymous Author and Produce a Sri Lankan version of Common Sense in Sinhala, Tamil and English? You will do as much service to Lanka, the Land of Native Veddah Aethho, just like Thomas Paine did for America and France. You can expand this write up, and get there.

The current perception is that Rajapaksa Hegemony has taken over the UPFA/SLFP and people do not want dynasties.

Say, Because I have Common Sense, I will not vote for Mr. Rajapaksa and their criminal cronies for a continuation of a Family Dynasty, and say that Sri Lanka is a Republic.

Rajapaksa had the opportunity. The power corrupted them. The People are sick of them. They even used Buddhism towards their ends. Even Sinhala Buddhists are fed up them, and they are showing their true colors.

An Anonymous Author like Thomas Paine is needed with a Common Sense Pamphlet to expose the King, King George, the Rajapaksa Clan. Read, the Common Sense Pamphlet , by Thomas Paine, that inspired the American Revolution along with the other events. Common Sense (pamphlet)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_(pamphlet)

Produce a Commons sense Pamphlet for Sri Lanka and say why it is in the best interest of the people of Sri Lanka to remove the King, aka Rajapaksa Dynasty from power and let the Republic be a Republic and Not a dynasty. This Pamphlet, in Sinhala, Tamil and English, need to be sent to each and every Sri Lankan Citizen, just like Thomas Paine’s Common Sense pamphlet.

We see how our legal system is corrupt and all these judges are paid to this dirty politics and believe me MR will stay on power until he dies or believe me one of his son takes over. Or believe me otherwise they will be a coup in Srilankan soon or political unrest
So many questions are raised why he is rushing for this election. It is because he wants to replace be one his son to escape from rules of law: he knew well he will be pusniehd if he is defeated

All the MPs who are opposing this process should walk out of the Parliament when the decision is announced and never return to the Parliament. This will also include the opposing UPFA MPs. This should create a constitutional crisis and may have to call for a general election. Once the new Government is appointed an impeachment against the present President can be presented in the new Parliament.

    What a surprise Ane.

Thief Justice has delivered the verdict which nobody expected.

First time in the history of Thief Justice, the verdict has gone in favour of MARA. Really cannot believe, do not know what went wrong.

Surprise, surprise. I cannot believe what I heard. May be Nimal Siripala was asleep, like during the budget speech.

Someone please re-confirm, THIEF GIVING JUDGEMENT FAVOURING A MURDERER. This is so weird, isn’t it and the THIEF JUSTICE has a very good track record as well, I cannot believe this. I am so restless after this surprise verdict, can someone please console me, shock of my life. I am sure, it must be a real shock for all except MARA, as he never would have expected this from HIS THIEF JUSTICE, especially after the rendezvous with him at TEMPLE TREES WHEN THE QUESTIONNAIRE WAS DRAFTED BY THIEF JUSTICE FOR HIS CONSIDERATION.

ARE YOU ALL NOT SURPRISED ANE, PLEASE SHARE YOUR SURPRISES AS WELL.

The Supine Court has given its opinion and it was as expected. The Supine Court has decided that it will rather remain Supine than become Supreme . it is not a very enviable position to be. Let us understand its plight.

There definitely will be many motions filed in this S- Court, once MR announces the presidential election date and his candidacy . These will provide an opportunity to understand how our legal system functions and how it has been debased and dwarfed. It will be a lesson for the discerning, on the depths we have been sunk.

However, the bigger court- The People- will have the opportunity to deliver their judgement soon. The impediments to the free expression of their judgement will be formidable. How the opposition will campaign and ensure a free and fair election, will minimise the chances of a tampered result. Ultimately, how the current pains of the people and what the opposition proposes to alleviate these pains that will make the results a landslide that cannot be stopped. The focus should not be the executive presidency, but how it has been abused to create a national pain of immense proportions- at all levels of society and left a nation that has to bend her head in shame.

We should prepare ourselves for the ‘ Judgement Day’ which will decide where we as peoples and a nation will head and see through the deceptions that will precede it and the violence that may follow it.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake is the best to deliver the message in a manner that could be understood by everyone and Ranil Wickremasinghe who can vocalise the vision for the future. I hope and pray, they can work together in the interests of this country. I hope the larger interests of our country will override selfish and parochial consideration at least in this instance.

    Dr.Rajasingham Narendran

“However, the bigger court- The People- will have the opportunity to deliver their judgement soon”.

It is true that Elections will be held but I am not sure that whether the people have the opportunity to deliver the results as they wish. It is the Election Commissioner who is going to deliver the results. We know how the justice system was manipulated in favor of Mahinda. What guarantee is their whether EC will not do the same as Mohan Peries did?

Only way is that the people should come out to the streets to challenge the regime in all front. Can they do it? I doubt?

It is possible to concur with most of what you have said on the opinion by the Supine Court of SL on the constitutionality of Rajapakse contesting for a third term as President before the end of his.six year term, but what has RW got to vocalise about when he is bereft of any political vision and not of the same mould as AKD of the JVP?

Not surprisingly, not a single dissenting Supreme Court Judge in spite of the 18th Amendment provision being rather contentious. Had there been a dissenter, I wonder for how long afterwards he would remain in his post. MaRa is no fool, he knows it’s a hollow victory as all the people clarifying his position are his cronies. In Uganda, the Army promoted Idi Amin to its highest rank though he has never been in any wars or an exercise and the only conflict he faced was the ethnic cleansing of non Africans from his country. He bankrupted the country and got deposed and the successor provided incentives for the deported non-Africans to return. MaRa’s and Gota’s Brown Shirts (actually saffron robed) have already given us their Chrystallnacht in Aluthgama and sown the seeds to ethnic cleanse the entire country. It is still not too late to make amends, before we, as a country, lose the already depleted support from the Muslim and Christian countries.

In sunny Sri Lanka, the scales of justice always tilt to the side of the ruling regime, it’s interests, and their gain. What else can you expect when it is packed with their servants, who forget their neutrality, and oath to be impartial, even if it means the country will suffer the consequences of their corrupt ruling? This is no surprise.

Is anyone really surprised by this outcome? Hopefully no one held their breath…

Let us see what the Opposition is really made up of. A bunch of talkers or doers. There has been no clear message from the Opposition parties except for or against the third term.

Are they expecting us to vote for them just because we hate the Rajapakses? That seems to be their hope. I don;t see why anyone deserves my vote until and unless they can clearly state what they plan to do different and how they expect to get it done. Offering a 10,000 increase or 1 million jobs is stupid and maybe Ranil thinks we are all stupid. Does he think a Million jobs just happens when he says so.

It took Barack Obama 6 years to get the US economy to where it is today. And the public there are still not happy. Us fools seem to think sinking highways and bankrupt airlines with new leases on old aircraft represents progress.

Progress means movement from one place towards another, hopefully in a positive sense. When JR floated the Mahaweli racket we were told every Sri Lankan would be in debt to some lakhs. I wonder what the number is today.

This was a forgone conclusion. Why the SC , MR and the rest of us wasted money and time to deliver this verdict. Another conclusion is that the Presidential Elections will be won by MR even a single vote – including his vote not been poled to him. So why do we need elections? Declare this fellow is the winner.
