Short-Circuiting The Impeachment Process Under Consideration

By Colombo Telegraph

Realizing that the Select Committee process would be longer than expected, the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government is contemplating short-circuiting the process. According to reliable sources, the Government is now thinking of advising its members in the PSC to submit a report to Parliament on 08 December on only one or two of the 14 allegations made in the impeachment motion. The majority would say in the report that those one or two charges have been proved and that there is no need to go into all the 14 charges.

Asoka de Silva

Colombo Telegraph also understands that the Government is worried that the PSC’s majority report will be seen as a hurried job. Therefore, the President will request three retired judges of the Supreme Court to consider the report and advise him as to what should be done. The three retired judges will be persons who are certain to give a report unfavourable to the Chief Justice. Former Chief Justice Asoka De Silva has been entrusted with the job of getting three “safe” judges for this exercise. The three retired judges would then advise the President that the PSC report is a “sound” report.

The plan is to submit a short report on one or two charges on 08 December and pass the impeachment motion on 08 January after the one month period required by the Constitution. However, senior SLFP-ers are said to be concerned about the proposal. They have pointed out that such a hasty end to the process would lead to loss of credibility both within the country and internationally.

With such a king and minions, who cares about the country’s credibility and honour?

The joint opposition must act STRATEGICALLY and join together to disrupt parliament proceedings and close it down until the impeachment of the CJ is withdrawn ONCE AND FOR ALL – follow the Indian model on the FDI Bill.
Trade Unions and professionals and citizens should have a “day of protest’ against the impeachment and march on the streets for the LANKA SPRING at the same time, and support opposition protests in parliament.
The Rajapakse regime of uneducated thugs, morons, and thieves and their cronies has brought such disgrace and SHAME ON THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENT, the legislative arm of the country, by running a Kangaroo Court against the country’s first woman Chief Justice, and by bringing Mervin Silva’s riff-raff, that it is now time to shut down Parliament and clean it up before the politicians further disgrace the Sri Lankan people and nation!

DUE PROCESS – Whatever happened to that?
Even in a Kangaroo Court run by a diya-wenna parliament of moronic politicians in Banana Republic – there has to be DUE PROCESS!

Principles of COMMON SENSE, NATURAL JUSTICE AND DUE PROCESS render the Kangaroo Court in Diya-wenna Oya NULL AND VOID.

The foolish UNP following Ranil’s pretense at being an great intellect on parliamentary processes is citing the previous impeachment motion and Commonwealth Principles.
Ranil seems to lack a commonsense understanding of NATURAL JUSTICE AND DUE PROCESS which take precedence over Commonwealth principles which like the Commonwealth organization are a joke!

After impeachment is aborted the uneducated moron called the speaker, second in slime to his fellow Rajapakse brothers, can fly a kite or better still commit suicide in the Diyawanna oya!

You seemed to believe that subscribers to colombotelegraph are the majority voters in this country. I can only visualize the manner in which this jamboree of commentators would be fighting for their own version of equality, egalitarianism, classlessness and democracy if MR is defeated. Sri Lanka will be in a worse predicament than Egypt is today.

Leelo getting cold feet eh? If MR is defeated, whatever position Sri Lanka will be in, definitely will be better than the present position. The attempt of the MR govt. getting people from the shanties of Colombo to demonstrate, does not really reflect the will of the masses across the country. If you know that the very strong supporters of MR in the past are today against MR. Wait and see this will be MR’s Waterloo! Mayan Calendar will end with MR. I love the day, all these buggers the Rajapaksa Family and his catchers like Asoka De Silva crowd are crusified for the crimes committed and their properties confiscated.

crucify these buggers and their admirers [like Leela] ?
Not Ranil, not Sajith, not Sarath, not any one else from the
225 ? We need someone with guts like the CJ.All those who
want a COUNTRY WE CAN BE PROUD OF must stand firmly behind
          JUSTICE.

          gamini,
So, you eagerly await for an Arab spring here? Leave out prophesies by Mayans, you have to wait for four more years even for General or Presidential elections let alone win it. In the meantime, learn to learn his lesson from your leader.

When the executive is the prosecutor (via the legislature), judge and jury there is no need to be concerned about ‘loss of credibility’.

This report seems correct. CJ and lawyers have walked out of the PSC. Seems that the goal posts are changing all the time with the 07 hora umpires.

Hora umpires or not, she is out “hit wicket.” Now we can have a CJ who does not hinder progress. This is a very good lesson for other judges too. They must realise that the people are with the President. People revere him as if he is a god-like figure. Why not? The future of Sri Lanka is in safe hands. After Mahinda, there is Namal. Ranil W has no chance. Neither has anyone else.

While MR rallying crook retired judges to support him on the impeachment a panel of judges and lawyers, who love the country and judiciary, should form a longtime panel to determine the unlawful activities of MR, his family, his ministers, his MPs , corrupt officials who make the way for him to become a dictator. The panel should collect and gather the information, evidence of harm to prosecute all mentioned above
when they loose power in future.
