Sri Lankan Media Today: All Reference To Gota In My Column Have Been Axed

Dear Colombo Telegraph Editor,

I write to a few Tamil and English publications in Lanka, one of whom imposes self-censorship whenever reference is made to the Defence Secretary. I think CT readers should be made aware that self-censorship is practised even by the English so-called national press. Here is the most recent example; the under-mentioned passages were completely deleted by the paper. This why an opening like CT is so needed even if one has to go through the inconvenience of a proxy-server to reach it.

“Victor Ivan lambasted Gotabaya Rajapakse as a heavy handed military type who is overstepping his limits and provoking disaster. The US State Department’s 9 July statement said: “The United States is concerned by reports that the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence has ordered registered NGOs and civil society groups to cease their media engagements and activities”.  Ambassador Sisson, appointed to the UN Security Council US Secretariat by President Obama is no friend of the Rajapakse clan”.

“Nimalka (Fernando) opined “This is not a Rajapaksa regime anymore; it is the Gotabaya regime” and candidly declared “The Rajapakse regime has either become completely retarded or imbued with a deep sense of paraplegic paranoia. It seems as though the Defense Secretary has become so high and mighty that he has once again forgotten that his motherland has citizens like us with a strong backbone”.

“The barrage was fast and furious. No one seems afraid of Mr Gonibilla, his White Vans and state sponsored killing squads any more. Within hours the high and mighty Defence Ministry climbed down like a pussycat and mumbled that nothing out of the ordinary was intended; only reminding everyone of the regulations that were already on the state books. “We have merely taken a precautionary measure in reminding them of the limits.” These guys don’t even know how to lie intelligently!”

Indian Air force Chief on an official visit met Gota, the well known alleged war criminal: This gives respectability to him and the regime which violated all norms of International humanitarian laws.

It is well known (ask Arunthathi Roy)India though acclaimed as the paragon and the largest democracy is accused of human rights violations in Kashmir, North East and against the Maoists.

Several other states also palaver these war-crimes accused leaders and the state in official capacity: These states include, China, Japan among others.

With such hypocrisy what is the incentive for Gota, or the regime for that matter to respect any media freedom.

Scratch each others back is the name of the game.

Indian parliament was in uproar today against recent Israeli attacks on Palestinians, but aided and abetted the killing of 147,000 or more innocent Tamils during the war. An ADMK MP asked them why they make so much protest for attacks on Palestinians, while they kept mum when Tamils, both TN fishermen and Sri Lanka Tamils were killed in the war? Tamils are dispensable even to India but not Palestinians! Either anti-Tamil racists or hypocrites, you choose!

Don’t people know that we live in a world full of hypocrites who disguise as democratic and they value human rights! What a load of crap.

It appears that the attitudes of the government of India is the same whether it is Modi or Manmohan in power! Tamils all over the world will have to work hard to raise the political consciousness of the people of Tamilnadu. That is the only way pressure can be brought to bear on Delhi.

Well, I urge you to look at the positive side.

Since you write rubbish anyway, a few missing sentences aren’t going to matter much.

Professori, How’s your ‘CC’ and ‘SI’ project going? Mind you, that’s the game. Now, don’t write nonsensical to cover up the futility of the game or game gone astray.

    Kumar,
Are you also self-censoring yourself by not stating the name of the newspaper? Are you afraid that they will not publish your stuff if you reveal the name?

Good question. All the high talk without telling what paper Prof wrote this article. Not even the date of article given. Why so frightened? Because he is afraid his articles will not be published if he tell the name.

Brutality, Dictatorship, massacres, censorship, abduction and murders, corruption, Lies are the fundamental characteristics of Mahinda regime. They control the parliament, military, and justice institutions. They have the backing of not only China, Pakistan, Iran and Russia but also from the so called democratic nations including India, Japan, Australia and USA. Sri Lanka is only place where both west, south and East work together to destroy Sri lanka.

    Prof. David,
As a learned person I am surprised that you wrote this post to Colombo Telegraph. Aren’t you aware that every media outlet has their own agenda? Are you so dumb to expect a state media outlet to publish your thrashings of the state? Let me give you some home work, write to Colombo Telegraph trashing them for being anti Sri Lankan and then write your finding to a state media outlet.
By the way, readers and specially my self would like to see your credentials with all your articles.

There are many ‘news’ outlets, that invite comments too, yet do not publish at all, or hide behind, awaiting approval before publication. These include Groundviews and national ‘newspapers’ like the financial times. This method of slanting the argument in a particular direction is common practise.

Prof. David, Now that you have got 1 Billion+ enlightened CT readership across the globe for your thrashing of Gota, why are you still complaining? As Eusense says, good 99% of articles on CT are anti Sri Lanka, anti Sinhala anti Buddhist. Is that perfectly above board and a shining example of objective impartial journalism?.

“As Eusense says, good 99% of articles on CT are anti Sri Lanka, anti Sinhala anti Buddhist.”

So you haven’t got any sane minded people to quote.

I regret as to why CT couldn’t find the other 1%.

More of anti Sri Lanka and anti Sinhala/Buddhist article are welcome.

You are confused, there is difference between anti Sinhala/Buddhist and Sinhala or Buddhists.

I haven’t read any anti Sinhala nor anti Buddhist articles in CT.

    The test for you:

If you don’t like the article it must be anti Sinhala/Buddhist and not anti Sinhala nor anti Buddhists.

    Get used to the idea.

Most spin doctors are journalist in the west.
The exiles from the world have a political agenda funded by them being economic refugees.

Take SL case for a laptop-Wow the invertebrate’s screamed bum on fire. Factory refurbished laptops with 6 months guarantee is available at Euro 25-30. Thousands of them are purchased by africans at boot sales and sent like used clothes free of duty as charity.

Without a pen how does one write – if its costly there how can they be employed?

The Brits (common people) laughed when the complain was about BBC journalist and laptop.
