Sri Lanka Navy has granted approval for Rajapaksa ‘prince’ Yoshitha Rajapaksa to be a member of his father’s security detail in response a request he submitted.
Yoshitha is presently on three months leave of absence and an international investigation is ongoing into the procedure followed during his recruitment to the Navy and the scholarships that had been granted to him during the Rajapaksa regime.
State Minister for Defence told earlier this week that Yoshitha has submitted a request to the Defense Ministry for him to be made part of the security team of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile the Minister also stated that a probe is being conducted into Yoshitha in collaboration with the Navy Commander on how he was relieved of duty and on how and why he was granted leave of absence without even being subjected to the inquiry that is continuing against him.

He was “set on fire” along with his car at Park Road colombo 5 close to Appollo Hospital and covered up as an accident..but his National ID was picked up at Balapokuna Road close to Nugegoda on the High Level Road.
Yasara lied to the CID and to sweep the matter under the carpet, She was PACKED along with her Family to Australia to work at the SL embassy with no Protocol followed in hiring her. An inquest into the mysterious death of former national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen has been initiated following the emergence of new information with respect to the case in the recent past, Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said.
The Government Analyst’s (GA) Department investigation, which moved at snail’s pace due to unknown reasons on this case, was concluded on 12 February, Ada Derana learns.
SSP Rohana added that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is now investigating the case upon a directive made by the IGP since last afternoon.
“Several scientific evidences of the GA report and the Judicial Medical Officer’s (JMO) report elaborate that this was not an ‘accidental death’. The secondary inquiries were based on the reports of GA and JMO” said Rohana.
A senior police officer told Ada Derana that Thajudeen had had a dispute with a powerful person over a girl sometime before his mysterious death and the investigators will draw attention to this as well.
Initially, the police predicted that Thajudeen had been driving to the airport when his car crashed into a wall killing him on the spot in Kirullapone on 17 May 2012.
Thajudeen represented S Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia from 2001 to 2003. He then turned out for Havelock’s SC during the 2005 season where he played in the position of wing three quarter. He was voted the Most Popular Ruggerite of the Year at the Caltex Observer Touchdown Rugby Quiz award ceremony in 2009.

On a more serious note: I served in the U.S. Navy for four years and as far as I am aware, there is no such thing as leave of absence, especially for a junior officer, such as a lieutenant. Has Lt. Shoshita served aboard any of the ships of the S. L. Navy? Has he qualified for officer of the deck? Has he stood 24-hour watches around the clock for 14 days and longer? Has he ever gotten dirty in the engine rooms while learning about propulsion?
