The arrival of Buddhist monk Galagoda Atte Gnanasara of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and Dan Priyasath who calls himself ‘Savior of the Sinhalese’ to pay last respects to a Sinhala man who succumbed to injuries sustained when beaten up by a group of Muslims has raised fears of imminent communal clashes in Teldeniya and other places in the Kandy District.
Sudarshana Gunawardena, Director General, Department of Government Information, told Colombo Telegraph that a curfew was imposed in the Kandy District and the Police put on alert to ensure that the enforcement of the law proceeds without hindrance and the situation does not spiral into an inter-communal conflagration.
“The Government appeals to all parties and especially the general public to act with responsibility and remain calm. The suspects have been arrested and the law will take its course,” Gunawardena said.
It is reported that a Hartal was declared in Digana, Teldeniya, Udispattuwa and Medamahanuwara protesting the attack. The Police and STF were deployed to bring the situation under control after twp shops in Moragahamulla were set on fire by angry mobs. Twenty-four people suspected of involvement in these acts of violence have been arrested by the Teldeniya police so far.
The victim, M.G. Kumarasinghe (41), a resident of Ambala in Medamahanuwara, had been undergoing treatment for a week at the Kandy Teaching Hospital after the assault and succumbed to his injuries last night.
The altercation had taken place allegedly when a group of men, later identified as Muslims, had been angered due to the victim not allowing them to overtake his vehicle. Another version has the victim accidentally hitting the side mirror of the vehicle in which the assailants were travelling but had not stopped to sort the matter out.
There is no evidence whatsoever that the assault was racially motivated. The assailants, all residents of Ambagahalanda, Digana were arrested by the police while a three-wheeler was also taken into custody.
Gnanasar and Priyasath, both representing extremist groups, are currently on bail over cases where they are accused of inciting communal violence against the Muslim community. Gnanasara Thero and the BBS, in particular, played a leading and violent role in the Aluthgama riots a few years ago.

Latest and very reliable news. This riots was planned ahead and they had organized racist groups from different areas and each group given their target places. This lorry driver was not actually killed by Muslim but they have had an argument and he was pushed hard so he fell and got injured. He had gone to the police and lodged a complaint. The racist and the police found this man was good scapegoat, had beaten him thoroughly to make sure he will die and had put him in the hospital where he died. Immediately after he died, his death was spread in Facebook. Racist monk visited the funeral and instigated violence. Those two Muslim who pushed him were young boys. Facebook messages of racist discussing how they beaten the driver to death to put the blame on Muslim youth were tracked and available in the facebook. Violence of any nature should not take place under any circumstance. The Police and the Army should have taken control from the outset and supress any impending damage to property and lives. That is what the public expect from the institutions in maintaining law and order. Whether that happened here at Theldeniya is a matter to be scrutinised.

This is the brief truth. If you want to believe it or not:
1. Lorry won’t let 3 wheeler overtake. Three wheeler struggles to get past but hits it side mirror.
2. Three wheeler cuts off lorry and driver and passengers beat lorry driver.
3. Lorry driver (beaten up but able to walk) goes to police station to file an entry
4. The police inform BBS about the races involved. BBS contacts main politicians and formulate action plan. They need a few days to mobilize
5. The driver somehow ends up in hospital with very serious injuries. At this point it is not clear how he sustained the injuries, however it seems to have been from BBS supporters
6. The body is kept in Kandy hospital (apparently alive, JMC will find out eventually) until BBS and politician arrange their thugs and transport to wreak havoc from funeral
7. The STF and police confiscate all Muslim weapons
8. BBS participates and incites people in the area, however the riots are led by people brought in specifically for that purpose
9. There is widespread looting of Muslim houses, businesses and mosques, then setting them on fire to hide the looting
10. Vehicles which Muslims travel in are set on fire

Government should have acted much swiftly & firmly to rein in on these racist elements namely Bodu Bala Sena , Mahason balakaya etc. who have clear history of inciting violence for the last so many years against the ethnic & religious minority communities in Sri Lanka.
It is crystal clear that these latest acts of arson & torching of mosques, businesses, houses, vehicles & other belongings to muslims in Theldeniya, Digana, Thennekumbura & other areas in the kandy district are not spontaneous ones. Rather it seems they are well planned attacks carried out by busloads of mobs brought from other areas. This is a continuation of same pattern that we witnessed in violence against muslims in Aluthgama area under the Rajapakse regime in 2014.
Most disturbing point is many of these attacks have taken place under the watchful eyes of police & Special Task Force deployed to bring the situation under control & to maintain law & order. It is useless that the government appointing Commissions after commissions just to do post mortems of these incidents perpetrated by criminals elements planned well ahead apparently with the support & connivance of some sections of security establishment especially police & Special Task force.
At least now the Government should this seriously & take firm actions to curb this menance of spreading hatred through social media to bring an end to such incidents happening in future.

Most disturbing point is many of these attacks have taken place under the watchful eyes of police & Special Task Force deployed to bring the situation under control & to maintain law & order. This clearly shows lack of impartiality & apathy of law enforcement authorities in Sri Lanka especially Police & Special Task Force in controlling these acts of violence perpetrated against the religious & racial minorities on time & again.

I am currently in away from Sri Lanka.
All I can see is ‘foreign powers’ are trying to destroy the Sri Lankan economy and continue get SLs CASH and ‘highly qualified’ SLAVE labour. Western economies RUN ON the ‘advantage’ of destabilized countries in Asia, Africa, Middle East, etc. It does not take ‘rocket scientis’ to see this. Maybe the SL politicians are also in the ‘game’!
The government should investigate ALL people rioting, buddhist/muslim/christian/hindu religious leaders, etc for ‘unaccounted’ foriegn currency or other income!!!
Sri Lanka, looks like, is full of traitors – ALL OF THEM!

I am not away forever, I have never left SL alone, even during the war I was actively involved in it. People who know me know what I am talking about.
And, you have just proven my point that ‘ALL ARE TRAITORS’ (or just plain stupid/greedy/selfish).
The bottom line is Sri Lanka is being de-stabilized (with or without foreign help)!
As my aunt (who is a doctor) used to say ‘We Sinhalese have herd instincts…’ or what the Portugues (and English) coined us ‘Sinhalaya Modeya, Kawum kanna yodaya’.
After wining the war it looks like we are just ‘eating kawum’ (the two legged variety too :-) ) and fighting amongst ourself.
Trust you will get my message, if you are indeed Sri Lankan first and Sinhalese second… Or are you an LTTE, disgiused as a Sinhalese trying to get International support to start the war again?
The bottom line is there is a government and there is law and order (at least a law) and the government MUST protect its citizens (anybody currently on the soil), enforce law and order and also investigate for ‘subversive’ activity. That, is the RESPONSIBILITY of the government!

For years the LTTE said they were ‘the voice’ of the Tamils, but, today we know that they were just a extortion-business and they were in it for the money. The many mothers who lost their sons and daugters for ‘the cause’ only have ‘loneliness and destitution’ today.
Anybody can put on a safron robe and call themselves a ‘buddhist monk’. The Ministry of Buddha-sasana MUST REGISTER all buddhist monks (also Muslim, Christian, Hindu ‘leaders’). Catholics don’t need to do this because Catholics nuns and priests are already registered – NO THUG/SPY/TERRORIST can masquerade as a ‘catholic priest’.
So, as ‘Mahinda thero’ who brought buddhism to Sri Lanka asked King Devanam Piyatissa about ‘Mango trees and other trees other than mango trees, etc’ in the forest, all I can say is:
There are sinhalese, there are buddhist, there are christians and muslims who are/were sinhalese.
Then there are radicals, terrorists and TRAITORS who are sinhalese, tamil and muslims (some have herd instincts, others get money from ‘various sources’ to destablilize Sri Lanka).
It is HIGH TIME H.E. The President and The Hon. Prime Minister REGULATED the Three-wheel buddhism (which has now become Three-wheel Islam too – by the looks of it) and 4,8,16 wheel TERRORISM (Private busses) IMMEDIATELY (before we become a Three-wheel country {again})!!!
The FAULT for this entire situation lies with the governments (note the plural) that allowed three wheelers and private busses to run-amock in the country.
The bottom line is that no matter who it is, if you have a SIMPLE TRAFFIC accident with a three-wheeler (private bus) you could end up dead (and thugs will capitalize on it)! The three-wheel drivers who beat up the bowser/truck driver MUST BE CHARGED WITH TREASON!!!

Today is International Womens’ day. The moderator of this page might be wondering what my comment has to do with the ‘frustrations’ of the people.
Frankly, I don’t see any women asking for the right to have children, be a house-wife and get paid for it by the government. The west (G7) have some of these benefits, but the Middle Eeast (YES ARAB/MUSLIM) countries have the best, such policies.
So, the bottom line is all these, so called, religious leaders (especially sinhalese) should fight for the right and promote sinhalese to have good values. But, from what I see, the Sinhalese (I am one two) PREFER to blame others for their own INDISCIPLINE!
Correct me if I am wrong, I don’t see any BUDDHIST or CHRISTIAN ‘leaders’ promoting women to be good mothers/housewives and have more then 3 children. Power is in NUMBERS, not in JEALOUSY!
As I say, we may have won the War, but we have lost the country because our women and men have become ‘promiscous’…. and are chasing the ILLUSIVE dream of CASH and GADGETS!
The enemy is WITHIN!
