Fundamentalism Creeps Into Muslim International Schools

Ilma International, a leading Muslim private girls school in Colombo Sri Lanka, has been preaching a fundamentalist Islamic ideology to its children, the Colombo Telegraph learns.

The school, housed at the heart of Colombo has for decades provided Islamic education to Muslim girls.

Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi

However, deviating from traditional Sri Lankan and South East Asian Muslims, the school together with many other such Muslim schools spread around the country have deviated to Salafist- Wahabist teachings over the past decade, causing concern among Muslims, according to parents who spoke to Colombo Telegraph.

The rise of extremist movements in Sri Lanka has been systematic with the earliest reports coming from the late 90’s.

However the rise has been exponential in the past 7 years, according sociologists.

The ‘black face veil or the Burqa is seen as a symbol of this rising radicalism together with the recent revelation by Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi.

The Defence Secretary in a communique earlier this year said that 36 Muslims have left the shores to fight for ISIS a terror group calling for a global re-unification of Muslims.

” This sort of this happening from Sri Lanka is just mind blowing. The Muslims here lived in peace and freedom and have never ever been accused of moving away from the local culture or associating themselves with global terror,” Mohomed Ameer told Colombo Telegraph.

Many Muslims in Sri Lanka who defend the extremist ideologies invoked by Saudi, are in complete denial of the causal link between the ” face covering” ideology and the men who left to fight for the ISIS.

*Video via Channel 4 News

In this VIDEO fundamentalist Muslims in the United Kingdom while using verses to propagate fascism also deny that there is a link between their ideology and terrorism. When one Muslim confronts a radical and says ” you are recruiting for ISIS”, the radical looks at the Channel 4 crew and asks ” have you ever seen me do that?”, much akin to Lankan Muslims in complete denial of the causal link.

According to Sri Lankan military sources all 36 men and their extended families adhere to the strict and fundamentalist interpretation of the Quran.

“All of them and their extended families lived under strict Islamic rule. Some dont have chairs in the house, not because of poverty, but because apparently there were no chairs during the time of the Prophet. Almost all the women and their extended families wore a Burqa or a black garb” an officer said.

The rise in the Burqa, which was not prevalent in the country over a decade ago is also a significant factor in understanding the nature of the fundamentalist.

“Lankan Muslim women always wore the saree or the Shalwar Kameez for centuries. I dont think anyone in our generation or the previous generation remember seeing women in black garbs in Sri Lanka. This is something alien and was only seen in Saudi”  a sociologist told the Colombo Telegraph.

According to many academics the new wave of Islam is an attempt to resist the ‘perceived western domination’ .

” The fact that the Muslim empires suffered defeat, economic, political and military defeat at the hands of western forces is one reason which fuelled this in the early 1900. The ideology was to completely negate themselves or resist any western influence and go back to the ages of Muslim domination which radical Islam believes was best. Its a paradox of sorts. They want a future that lives in the past, defying any sane logic or rationale” the Colombo Telegraph was told on condition of anonymity.

Earlier last year a Muslim poet and activist Sharmila Seyyid was forced to flee the country after being ” hounded by Mullahs”. The poet who is a mother of one and wrote her poetry in Tamil had been threatned repeteatedly by fundamentalist elements in her hometown in Batticaloa.

” This has never been the case and its alarming that the authorities didnt even pay due regard to this. Muslims of Sri Lanka have been a very vibrant part of the Lankan literature and culture. Never were their people imposing their beliefs systems on other Muslims. Those days a mosque festival used to be where the Sinhalese Tamil and Muslim children came to play and enjoy while the elders were reciting in the mosque. It was actually a feast with lights and decorations but today how many do we see?’ MAM Ismail a resident of Kandy told the Colombo Telegraph.

The city of Kattankudy, a city in the East of Sri Lanka is seen also as a symbol of a complete fundamentalist turn. Columnist Izeth Hussain writing to the Colombo Telegraph last year provided in detail accounts of date trees being planted in the area and the extent of the fundamentalism.

Many other ” Muslim” schools which come under the supervision of the education ministry are also propagating fundamentalist and segregationist ideals according sources.

” The school uniform of a Muslim girl was always a shawl around the bosom and long trousers. How many Muslims do you see dressed like that now?. How many Muslim students do you dressed in fully white face veils? This is not fear mongering but its the truth. Muslim leaders have kept their mouths shut about this because they fear backlash or they don’t want to ruffle any feathers given the nonsense that racist groups like the Bodu Bala Sena and others are promoting” a parent told Colombo Telegraph on the condition of anonymity.

According to many, Muslim students either wear the black face veil or the white face veil depending on the criteria set by the school, completely in ignorance of the segregation it causes.

Researches believe that moderate Muslims fear to take any stand against the rise in fundamentalism which draws parallels with fascist ideologies.

” These people are violent and they will quote the Quran as and when they could. Traditional peace loving Muslims are in fear to take this on because the backlash can be crazy. They just dont want to argue on the Quran, but the fact is that even the ISIS quotes the Quran. So who is to justify any nonsense that they do by quoting the Quran or the Bible or any other text? how can you.” Ameer asked.

The Colombo Telegraph learns that despite attention being drawn to these reports, Muslim ministers have shied away from addressing due to fear of backlash.

The rise in Sinhala racism also has led to Muslim leaders shying away from addressing the issue due to fear of “giving in”.

” The fact is there is a problem. This problem must be addressed. The Bodu Bala Sena should not be the reason it must be addressed but for the longevity and freedom of all Muslims. Because if it is not addressed, Sinhala racism against Muslims is only going to rise”, Ameer said.

Many social media activist also pointed out the lack of Muslim youth voices in quelling the extremism coming from among the Muslims.

” If you take Sinhala racism, the opposition comes from the Sinhalese itself. Even if its Tamil seperatism on social media its the Tamil community who first raise the flag and then joined by either racist or moderate Sinhalese. But what is alarming is the silence of Muslims. Muslims just do not ever speak against this and its on one hand sad and on the other very alarming”, Channa Abeetha Dahanayanke a researcher on anthropology and social media trends told the Colombo Telegraph.

She blamed the lack of education among the Lankan Muslims.

” Even among the educated they lack any knowlegde of religion except the dictas of the Quran. Islam is much more than that, and anyone reading a religion will know the literature, culture, how rules were imposed etc. None of these people know this. The kids in Madrasas are only thought to read the Quran. Not a word of the culture, the reasonings for rules, other religions, philosophy is taught. This ignorance is not only prevalent in rural areas but even many Colombo Muslims have no clue about anything else except rules” Dahanayake said.

Following is a meeting in which a letter of one parent sent to Ilma International against the fundamentalist practices promoted in the school is being read out.

Whether or not Ilma and other Muslims schools are teaching radicalized version of Islam, is right now not proved. If they are, then shame on them. We do not need radicalized Sri Lankans from any religion causing trouble in a secular nation like ours.

Muslim women should try to understand this sudden need to wear Abayas and the covering of their faces. This is NOT their garb, and does not belong to the Muslim culture in Sri Lanka. This is the cultural dress of Saudi Arabian women, who wear it to avoid the minute particles of sand in dessert storms, and goes with their Wahabi
beliefs. We are not Saudi Arabian, nor live in a dessert. Sri Lankan Muslim women for generations have worn sari and salwars, and simply cover their heads with light colorful fabrics. Why are they emulating an alien Muslim nation, that has caused more problems for Muslims than helped? Their laws are primitive, and they discriminate women. Arabs only represent a tiny percentage of Muslims world wide, so what makes the Saudis an think they have the power to influence how other Muslim women should dress an act in other nations? Look at other Muslim nations, and you will see the women attired very modestly in head cover, together with their own unique cultural dress. Why are Sri Lankan Muslim women aping only Saudis?

It is a shame that these radicalized behaviors are alienating all Muslims from the rest of the population.

“It is a shame that these radicalized behaviors are alienating all Muslims from the rest of the population.”

      The Problem is

      1. Cultural, and the Arabs trying to assert their cultural hegemony.

      2. The Sri Lankan Muslim Men are mostly stupid, and just follow what their stupid Ulama tell them

      3. The Politicians have some common sense, and do what theit stupid Ulama and Muslim voters ask them to do.

So, we have this go around where

      1. Children are brainwashed

      2. Youth are brainwashed

      3. Adults are brainwashed

      4. Older people are brainwashed.

And everybody believes that stupidity is a Virtue.

      Nobody is left to think.

This is exactly what the Ulama wants.

      Reason Vs. Revelation

Is the Sun going around the Earth? Going under Allah’s Throne to a resting place.

MEMRI: Arabs Have Nothing to Offer Others

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fWQ6WyAw-c

Read Kuwaiti Columnist: State Schools In Arab Countries Should Abolish Religious Studies

Kuwaiti liberal and secular activist Dr. Ibtihal Al-Khatib, whose bold views have frequently drawn fire from both Sunnis and Shi’ites in the Arab world,[1] advocated, in a November 30, 2015 article, to abolishing religion studies in schools and to replace them with lessons on the history of religion or on ethics and human rights.

Al-Khatib, a lecturer at Kuwait University and a columnist for the daily Al-Jarida, argued that the state has no right to impose the religion of a particular stream or sect on students from diverse backgrounds, and therefore proposed to confine religious studies to elective frameworks such as afternoon or weekend classes, so that parents who wish to can enroll their children in a religion class of their choosing. Al-Khatib also criticized the teaching methods prevalent in Arab and Muslim societies, which, she said, are based on rote learning, ambiguity and the reinforcement of taboos rather than on fostering creative thinking. She argued that this is the root of the problems in the Arab and Muslim world, in particular the internal schism, racism and extremism.

It should be noted that 10 days prior to the appearance of this article, Al-Khatib made similar comments on Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hattlan’s[2] show “Hadith Al-‘Arab” on Sky News Arabia, provoking many angry responses on social media.

Below are translated excerpts from Al-Khatib’s column:[3]

Curriculum Reform Will Not Help; All Religious Material Should Be Abolished

“I believe that nearly all our problems derive from the study methods and the quality of teaching to which our young children are exposed. I’m aware that this statement [seems] very simplistic and superficial, but in most cases the simplest and clearest [observations] in our lives are the most accurate.

“Our children grow up without much focus on critical thinking, because our curricula are based on rote learning rather than persuasion. They grow up relying almost exclusively on quoting and copying… because creativity and diligence are not part of the material or study method. They grow up evading many questions, resorting to ambiguity and avoiding many scientific and philosophical subjects, because the curricula surrounds [the students] with thousands of red lines, hobbles them with thousands of prohibitions and chains them with thousands of taboos.

“Many writers, myself included, have advocated amending the curricula, but I am not convinced that this will be enough to generate sufficient change. I called for such reform out of a belief that it was the minimum that had to be done, and might perhaps save what could [still] be saved and minimize the expressions of racism and extremism… [But] in my opinion, the real truth is that no modification [of the curriculum] will eradicate sectarianism or heal the [social] schism – for as long as the official curriculum presents religious material [from the perspective] of a particular school or sect, the schism will remain, and the rift and disagreement will be carved in stone, with the government’s official blessing.”

We Must ‘See Ourselves As We Really Are, Or Else Perish While Playing The Role Of Victim To An Empty Theater’

“When I noted, in an interview with Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hattlan, that the real solution is to abolish all religious materials, of any kind, in state schools, I received a harsh but expected response, which derives from the victim mentality that Muslims employ against anybody who disputes their opinion or criticizes them. [They see] any criticism as a plot against Muslims, any raising of questions as a plan to destroy the religion, and any innovative suggestion as Westernization intended to destroy the foundations of faith.

Why? Perhaps this is due to the harsh historical conditions and to the restrictions that currently prevail, or to the nature of the Arab-Islamic mentality, or to external political [influences], or to internal regional disputes. [And] perhaps all these factors together, or several of them, feed this perpetual sense of discrimination and prompt Arabs and Muslims to play this tedious role [of victim], [which they] embody so well that they [end up] believing in it wholeheartedly.

However, the world, and we ourselves, have grown sick of this endless role [of victim], which no longer elicits any sympathy or tears. So either we [start] seeing ourselves as we really are, or perish while continuing to play the role of victim to a theater without an audience.

“Yes, the solution is to abolish religion classes in schools during the morning and replace them with lessons on the history of religions, so students come to know the world’s diverse faiths, or else with lessons on human rights and ethics. This, providing that the state allows religious schools to offer afternoon or weekend classes, like the Sunday schools [operated] by the church, for those wishing to teach their children religion according to their [particular] sect and faith. Everyone has the right to provide his children with a religious education in a state-run school, but the state has no right to impose on all its citizens and residents… a single religious path from the perspective of one sect and one stream. The state should insist on equality for all in all the services it provides.

“I do not see how this proposal could [possibly] be regarded as an anti-religious plot, but, knowing the self-pitying Arab Islamic mentality, we understand why there are people who think that if you say ‘good morning’ instead of ‘al-salaam alaikum’ you are a Westernized [Muslim] plotting anti-religious schemes. This is how we always are, deliberately miserable.”

On November 7, 2015, it was reported that Al-Khatib had said that coeducation was preferable to segregated schools because it produced better results, developed the students’ personalities and made them more confident in relations with the opposite sex. @Shantha, from your comments a Muslim can clearly understand that you have no knowledge about Islam/ Muslims. Islam commands Muslim women to cover their body from top to toe when going out of their houses or when mingling with strange people. Islam does not in anyway command a person to commit harm to any other person in any form whether it is verbal or physical. Islam is a moderate path and an extreme one. Everyone knows that Western media and certain local media try to portray all Muslims as terrorists. Those who claim to be Muslims while killing and bombing innocent people are no way to be called as Muslims.

The Quran states women must cover their bosoms, and wear loose clothing, and wear modest garments. IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU APE THE CULTURAL DRESS OF THE SAUDIS. Saris are loose garments, and so are salwars. Many Muslims foolishly mistake Wahabism as the real form of Islam, and the Saudis are trying hard to influence our people into their way, which is not our way.

The Saudi Arabians are nothing to us. We must have our own identity and reject radicalization.

Men have X and Y Chromosome. Women have only X Chromosomes.

Adam was made out of Clay, and he had both X and Y Chromosomes. All the Prophets had to have both X and Y Chromosomes.

Eve was made out of Adam’s rib, and may be the rib racks Y chromosomes.

This is not an issue about hair. If Sri Lankan Muslim women want to cover their hair they can, in many ways. This is about imitating the Saudi Arabian women who wear burkhas and abayas, which is is NOT the cultural dress of the Sri Lankan Muslims. Sri Lankan Muslims must resist the influence Saudi Arabia is trying to exert on them, and reject their efforts to make them part of Saudi culture. Saudi Arabia’s brand of Islamic laws is one of the most primitive in the world, women are not allowed to drive, vote, and not allowed the freedom to be what they want to be. Our women do not have to follow that.

the prostitutes do not know what to wear any more as their professional dress is hijacked and worn by the western women and their followers since the 21st century onwards.

so the prostitutes are totally confused unable to decide what to wear anymore as most of the women walking down the streets today are alredy provoking the men arousing their feelings.

people like AMARASIRI and SHANTHA are used to this clture hence they get irritated the moment they see a woman not exposed to men.

you may promote the sexy clothes among your women more and more instead so that you may enjoy every moment you walk down the streets.

The Quran does NOT ask a woman to cover herself from head to toe. If you can understand Arabic, read the verses for yourself. If you don’t know Arabic the compare different translations (not just one). Not a single verse in the Quran makes that mandatory. It’s our over opinionated ulemas who control the religion now with their own interpretations and we follow them like fools.

In many places, the Quran says that in it are signs for those who believe. It’s talking about you and me, not the ulemas…or it would say that in it are signs for those who are the learned.

And let me tell you, studying in a prestigious Islamic university doesn’t make one a believer. You’re either a believer or you’re not. A university qualification isn’t a criteria to be a believer, according to the Quran.

As a muslim, the best thing you can do for your soul and for your creator is to learn Arabic for yourself. It’s our duty to search for the truth instead of having it spoon fed to us.

When Sinhalese Buddhist monks spoke about these activities of emerging threat to Sri Lankans, they were labeled as extremists, racists and some were even under the pretexts of vague charges sent to jails. I hope the compilers of this news item will not be treated similarly. The threat from these “Moslem MADRASA” type of educational institutions to Sri Lankan way of peaceful life is real. I am old enough to recognize what repugnant changes that these madrasas operating in our villages and cities have introduced under the guise of Islamic culture and education since 1950.

      Isham Abdeen,

That is where they are going. Read between the lines.CT is doing a great service by highlighting the expected problem. Is it true or Not True?

1.) If you believe that this is a slander campaign, to get the International Schools removed, and reduce traffic congestion, the school certainly have a case for damages and a restraining order. However, what are the Facts and what is the Truth.

2.) So, the Iblis, Satan following Wahhabies and their clones are agitated, because they are exposed. All they want to do is get the good Muslims, ro follow Satan, Iblis, and get to Hell Fire, because that is where they will be on the Last Day as per Islamic Theology.

Reminds me of the Catholic Church, Copernicus and Galileo, making the Earth Rotate and making the Sun stationary.

      3. “Question: Is Abdul Wahhab called Abdul- Iblis? Servant of Iblis? Why did Iblis disobey Allah, swy, in Heaven? better ask this from Allah my dear “

Can’t ask Allah swt. Can’t ask Prophet Mohamed, PBUH, either. However, can read about his sayings in the Hadith.

Read the Hadith of Najd, Prophet Mohamed, PBUH, predicts that the Horn of Satan will appear from the East, Najd, and Abdul-Wahab, Abdul-Iblis Appears.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith_of_Najd

4.) Read Kuwaiti Columnist: State Schools In Arab Countries Should Abolish Religious Studies

6.) When the Meccan’s Idols wee destroyed by Prophet Mohamed, PBUH, they were very angry, but they knew the Idols could not do anything.

When the Iblis Following Wahhabis and Their Clones are exposed by Prophet Mohamed, PBUH, in the Hadith, they are very angry, but they should know that Iblis, Satan could not do anything, other than take them to Hell Fire.

Extremism in any religion will alienate communities building hatred within.
In a Democratic country you cannot force anybody to stick to a dress code. The previous Government could have stopped this during the period of terrorism where people were at risk.
What the peace loving moderate people shouild do is ignore these radical extremists and completely isolate them from the society until they realise that such practices are not acceptable.
It does not matter whether these extremists are Buddhists, Christians. Muslims or Hindus. Ensure that they are isolated from society and repent their foolish acts.

The problem with Wahhabi and Salafi apologists is that they don’t think and they swallow everything the obscurantist bigots ruling over the holy lands of Islam, Mecca and Medin, churn out through their court Mullahs;for if they do they would never argue that the culture of the reactionary Arabs feudal lords as Islamic or Quranic. Islam never came to destroy ethnicity or culture. For if it is so the following verse wouldn’t be finding a place in the Quranic narrative. ‘O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).’ Chapter (49) sūrat l-ḥujurāt (The Dwellings):V.13.

So it is evident that Nations and Tribes are a creation of Allah. It never says that Muslims should ape the Arab culture to be a Muslim. On the contrary we Muslims should feel proud to hold on to our indigenous culture;viz pattern of dressing, eating, and other norms which gives us an identity.

What Amarasiri and others are arguing are correct from the above quoted Verse from the Holy Quran. Here the Almighty very explicitly reveal that the nations and Tribes are creations of the Almighty. And what the Sudi Wahhabis are trying is to obliterate the different Nations and Tribes for their imperial designs. Strictly speaking Islam should allow every nation to hold on to their traditions and cultural norms without any inhibitions religious or otherwise.

    The Defence Secretary,is talking bullshit.
What the heck has ILMA and their
school uniform have to do about
    radicalization or about some youth
having left the country to join ISIS.
He should be happy they have gone,
as he does not have to worry about
    them.He should be concerned about
his problems and not those of Syria
or Iraq, ILMA has been there for
nearly twenty five years and they
    have produced some outstanding

What a trash of garbage. Why the photo of the defense Secretary?. Is he the author of this garbage or has he contributed to any part?. He should take legal action against CT. The article is full of conjectures and not a single substantiated fact. Having few extremist (say 30 or 40 ) out of 1.5 million Muslim does not justify anything. They may be suffering from psychopathy.
Dragging a leading private school among Muslims, just because a parent had a problem is the kind of journalism CT likes to highlight. Have you written the both sides of story.
Look. Don’t you notice that the tradition of Sinhalese and Tamil communities have undergone tremendous changes in dress pattern towards the western culture during the last few decades?. Should Muslims also follow the same trend of throwing Bra to singers. Read today’s Newspapers regarding the survey of so called “Velantine day” loss of virginity of girls? Why can’t Muslim individuals have the freedom to choose what they like to wear or whom they like to emulate?
You will understand if you do a real study you will find that most of these so called fundamentalists have very positive outlook of the Lankan society and are much loved by their close associates which ever religion they may be.

Islamic fundamentalism or extremism is not terrorism. Islamic fundamentalism is practicing the faith as it is supposed to be practiced. It instills discipline and spiritualism in a person and contributes to social well being there is nothing to fear about burkahs, beards and long robes. In fact there is no other Islam but fundamentalism. Terrorism is spawned when undisciplined elements in the Muslim Community try reverting to fundamentalism but before they get disciplined they become emotional and resort to violence (seeing the worldwide oppression of Muslims), these elements are few and scarce and if identified would require counselling. In fact the word Islam signifies literally Peace. And Assalamu Alaikum means Peace be upon You. Regarding Islam and Arabs contribution to human progress – well if people do not know history they should not comment without knowledge or just blindly gorge out what the Islam phobia social media just churns out

From the beginning of the Prophet’s mission(on Whom be Peace) there have been conspiracies hatched by organized Judaism and Christendom to destabilize the Muslim world. Yet we as Muslims have no hatred towards humanity in general and are people of goodwill. Wrongs of Muslims driven by human weakness or poor judgment cannot be attributed to the Faith. Islam came as a Mercy unto humanity to guide it towards eternal success and salvation. It spread to all corners of the world by the dint of its message on the Unity of the Creator, the Administrator, the Sustainer the One Lord Allah. He has no Partner, is Independent, Ever-living and Self-subsisting and Whose Majesty, Power and Might transcends over the entire Universe. He has no Beginning nor End, is All Knowing etc. And further the Message that complete and Absolute Submission to the Creator and the practical Way (Sunnah) of his Messenger (on Whom be Peace) is the only way to humanity’s Salvation. Further external Peace cannot be achieved when Tyranny and Oppression prevail on the face of this Earth. And the internal Peace (and tranquility) could be achieved only by Muslims when they achieve communion with their Creator and submit unconditionally to Him

As to those worldwide non Muslim personalities who were astounded by Islam’s integrity and genuineness here is what they say

1)De Lacy OLeary, Islam at the Crossroads, London, 1923, p.8:
“History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.”

2)Edward Montet, “La Propaganda Chretienne it Adversaries Musulmans”, Paris, 1890, quoted by T.W. Arnold in The Preaching of Islam, London, 1913, pp. 413-414:
“Islam is a religion that is essentially rationalistic in the widest sense of this term considered etymologically and historically. The definition of rationalism as a system that bases religious belief on principles furnished by the reason applies to it exactly… It cannot be denied that many doctrines and systems of theology and also many superstitions, from the worship of saints to the use of rosaries and amulets, have become grafted on the main trunk of Muslim creed. But in spite of the rich development, in every sense of the term, of the teachings of the prophet, the Qur’an has invariably kept its place as the fundamental starting point, and the dogma of unity of God has always been proclaimed therein with a grandeur, a majesty, an invariable purity and with a note of sure conviction, which it is hard to find surpassed outside the pale of Islam. This fidelity to the fundamental dogma of the religion, the elemental simplicity of the formula in which it is enunciated, the proof that it gains from the fervid conviction of the missionaries who propagate it, are so many causes to explain the success of Mohammedan missionary efforts. A creed so precise, so stripped of all theological complexities and consequently so accessible to the ordinary understanding might be expected to possess and does indeed possess a marvelous power of winning its way into the consciences of men.”

About the Prophet of Islam (on Whom be Peace)

1)Michael H. Hart, The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History, New York: Hart Publishing Company, Inc. 1978, p. 33:
“My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world’s most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level.”

        2)Bosworth Smith, Mohammed and Mohammadanism, London 1874, p. 92:
“He was Caesar and Pope in one; but he was Pope without Popes pretensions, Caesar without the legions of Caesar: without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without a palace, without a fixed revenue; if ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by the right divine, it was Mohammed, for he had all the power without its instruments and without its supports.”

3)Annie Besant, The Life and Teachings of Muhammad, Madras 1932, p. 4:
“It is impossible for anyone who studies the life and character of the great Prophet of Arabia, who knows how he taught and how he lived, to feel anything but reverence for that mighty Prophet, one of the great messengers of the Supreme. And although in what I put to you I shall say many things which may be familiar to many, yet I myself feel whenever I re-read them, a new way of admiration, a new sense of reverence for that mighty Arabian teacher.”

Yes, Yes and Yes with the Help of Iblis, Satan. Read the Hadith of Najd.

          1. The British used the Stupid “Saudi” Arabs to fight Against the Ottoman Turks and used Wahhabism, so that they can weaken the Ottoman Caliphate and Weaken the Muslims, so that their Colonial Ambitions of taking over the Muslim lands can be undertaken.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman%E2%80%93Wahhabi_War

The Ottoman–Wahhabi War also known as the Ottoman–Saudi War or the Ottoman-Salafi War, was fought from early 1811 to 1818, between Egypt Eyalet under the reign of Muhammad Ali Pasha (nominally under Ottoman Empire rule) and the army of the Emirate of Diriyah, the First Saudi State, resulted in the destruction of the latter.

Hadith of Najd, where the Devil, Satan, Iblis comes from.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith_of_Najd

          2. The Great Game, to take over the Muslim Lands, in competition with the Russians.

          3. The Stupid Arabs who sided with the British Imperialists and French Imperialists were rewarded by the Sykes-Picot Agreement.

          4. The Stupid Saudi Arabs started following the Satanic Wahhabism, and the People are still suffering with Wahhabism and its various clones such as Al-Queda, ISIS etc.

          5. Wahhabism and the Wahhabi Education System makes the people lose their intelligence, critical reasoning and thinking skills. The Saudi (Wahhabi) Graduates who took the GMAT Tests scored an average of 311 while those from Turkey scared 550 and Iran 520. The USA average was 532.

What does the data tell you? Use use common sense and figure.

In the 2012-2013 testing year, the GMAC administered over 90,000 tests in the United States. China took second place with 53,000 and India was in a distant third with 25,000.

          http://blog.prep4gmat.com/countries-with-the-highest-and-lowest-average-gmat-scores/

Now Compare the other Islamic Countries with almost 99% Muslims, and 0% Wahhabies and their clones.

          COUNTRY GMAT SCORE % Wahhabies

          Saudi Arabia 311 25% (99% Muslim)

          Turkey 550 0% or <1% (99% Muslim)

          Iran, Islamic Republic 520 0% or <1% (99% Muslim)

          Indonesia 509 0% or <1% (90% Muslim)

          Morrocco 505 0% or <1% (99% Muslim)

          Sri Lanka 477 0% or <1% (9% Muslim)

Why does Wahhabism affect critical thinking skills?

Because the students are brainwashed to memorize the Quran and Hadith all day long with very little room for other subjects including critical thinking and other skills. So, the Wahhabi graduates are "Educated" but lacking critical thinking skills, as indicated by the GMAT scores. What does GMAT exam measure?
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduate_Management_Admission_Test

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT (/ˈdʒiːmæt/ (jee-mat))) is a computer adaptive test (CAT) intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA.

Please for, goodness sake stop your tirade against Muslims and watch this video. Thee are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world today, and there are the good and the bad amongst them. It is not that we hate you for what you are doing to denigrate Islam, including disrespecting our leader Prophet Muhammed (Peace and Allah’s blessings be upon him) and his teachings. Personally, I always listen to Buddhist sermons and have a lot of respect towards the teachings of Lord Buddha, and always try to understand the many similarities that he taught in Buddhism and our own Prophet’s teachings. I have always found it to be so similar in many respects. I don’t believe you show the least of those qualities in your attacks against those of non-Buddhist faiths irrespective. So please change your attitude and fill your heart with love and earn respect, at least in these late stage in your life.

You seem to miss the point. Wahhabi and Clone Terrorism in the name of Islam and its founder.

The issue is Iblis- Satan Following Wahhabis and their Clones, as they call themselves Islamic and Muslim.

So, you need to Expose the Iblis Following Wahhabies and Their Clones as followers of Satan, Iblis and Not the Quran as Revealed in the Quran to Prophet Mohamed, Pbuh.

Until, that distinction is made and promoted, Iblis Satan Followers, Wahhabies and their Clones, and Prophet Mohammed and Islam will be put into the same heap.

Your defense and being a Wahhabi Apologetic, does not help Islam and Muslims. Why not cal a spade, a spade, and the devil, Iblis?

Here is some supporting information for the Hypothesis. ISIS and Wahhabism are linked, if Wahhabism is Islam. The Iraqi Journalist pointed out that these terror organizations are motivated by an extremist Salafi ideology and claim that their atrocities represent Allah’s will and directives.

Iraqi Journalist Comes Out Against Claim That ISIS Has Nothing To Do With Islam

In an article titled “Does Terror Truly Have No Religion?” in the pro-Iranian Iraqi newspaper Al-Akhbar, Iraqi journalist Fadel Boula came out against the claim, which is frequently heard in the Arab world and outside it, that the terror of the Islamic State (ISIS) and its ilk is completely unrelated to Islam.

He pointed out that these terror organizations are motivated by an extremist Salafi ideology and claim that their atrocities represent Allah’s will and directives. The following are excerpts from his article:[1]

“[Does terror truly have no religion?] This slogan is uttered regarding terror, as though [terror] reflects a picture that is completely unrelated to its perpetrators’ religious affiliation, and as though there are no religious goals or values behind it, but only a state of insanity that causes those afflicted with it to run amok, unaware of what they are doing or what [they seek] to achieve by their actions – [actions] that disgust not only human beings but [even] the beasts of the jungle.

“The terror that is shaking the world today is not a natural disaster like a tornado, a thunderstorm or an earthquake, and it is not perpetrated by savage tribes. It is perpetrated by people who enlist [because they are] inspired by a religious ideology. [These people] advocate enforcing and spreading [this ideology as a set of] dogmatic principles that must be imposed by the force of the sword, and which [mandate] killing, expulsion and destruction wherever they go.

“Since its inception, this movement of terror has espoused a Salafi ideology that champions religious extremism, and brainwashed people of all ages have rallied around its flag, [people who were] trained to kill themselves and kill others in order to attain martyrdom. “The terror organizations that act in the name of religion were born when [the mujahideen] declared Islamic jihad against the Soviet forces in Afghanistan.

It was the Saudi sheikh Osama bin Laden who laid the cornerstone for the first [terror] cell, which he named Al-Qaeda. Later he called to launch a war in the name of religion, and young believers, influenced by fatwas of extremist [clerics], especially Saudi ones, flocked from the Muslim lands [to Afghanistan].

“[Then, Abu Mus’ab] Al-Zarqawi formed a branch of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which, calling itself ‘the Islamic State in Iraq,’ recently settled in the city of Mosul and united with its counterpart in Syria. Thus, a scary organization [namely ISIS] suddenly appeared, which advertises itself as the bearer of Islam’s message and banner. [Emulating the early] Islamic conquests, [this organization] invaded Iraq and Syria and appointed a Caliph for the Muslims: Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, who settled in Mosul and showed its people what [it is like] to be ruled by a government [that is a throwback to] 1,400 years ago, in terms of the treatment [they received] and the plunder of their lands.

The invaders attacked the populace of Mosul and eastern Syria, arrested them by the hundreds, and took a sword to their necks, and later singled out the Christians among them and offered them two options: either convert to Islam or pay the poll tax, as happened to their forefathers when the Arabs attacked their lands in the days of the Caliph ‘Umar Al-Khattab [583-644 AD]. When [the Christians] rejected this humiliation, [ISIS] seized their property, expelled them from their historic home, the province of Ninveh, and sent them to wander destitute under the skies, seeking rescue and safety.

“As for the Yazidis, their plight was and remains an historic disaster that was inflicted upon them by the God-fearing Caliph [Al-Baghdadi] when he applied to them the verse pertaining to infidels, namely offering them two options: to [either] embrace Islam, or die and have their money, women and children seized. We keep seeing images of innocent people being killed and beheaded by these terrorists, who butcher their victims while crying out “in the name of Allah the merciful” and “Allah akbar.” All these crimes are [ostensibly] carried out with Allah’s approval, and they are perpetrated by those who praise Allah day and night and who pray fervently and do everything according to His will.

“When the terrorists blew up the World Trade Center and several airplanes, killing thousands of victims, Osama bin Laden, surrounded by his people, said on television: ‘This is a victory from Allah.’ And now ISIS is bragging about killing innocent people in Paris, saying that it was ‘done with Allah’s approval,’ and threatening that the next attack will be in the U.S., Allah willing. And [Sheikh Yusouf] Al-Qaradhawi and others like him pray and hope that, in the wake of this terrorist momentum, a day will arrive when Muslims inundate Europe and subdue it to Islam. Is this not enough to convince [us] that terror [does] have a religion?”

        Endnotes:

This is not an Islam Issue.

This is a Wahhabi Education Issue. It is not Saudis as such. It is the Wahhabism, that has misled the Saudis and its people. with 25%, Wahhabies and clones, and produce graduates whose GMAT scores are 311.

In the 2012-2013 testing year, the GMAC administered over 90,000 tests in the United States. China took second place with 53,000 and India was in a distant third with 25,000.

        http://blog.prep4gmat.com/countries-with-the-highest-and-lowest-average-gmat-scores/

Now Compare the other Islamic Countries with almost 99% Muslims, and 0% Wahhabies and their clones.

        COUNTRY GMAT SCORE % Wahhabies

        Saudi Arabia 311 25% (99% Muslim)

        Turkey 550 0% or <1% (99% Muslim)

        Iran, Islamic Republic 520 0% or <1% (99% Muslim)

        Indonesia 509 0% or <1% (90% Muslim)

        Morrocco 505 0% or <1% (99% Muslim)

        Sri Lanka 477 0% or <1% (9% Muslim)

Why does Wahhabism affect critical thinking skills? Because the students are brainwashed to memorize the Quran and Hadith all day long with very little room for other subjects including critical thinking and other skills. So, the Wahhabi graduates are "Educated" but lacking critical thinking skills, as indicated by the GMAT scores.

This is my personal view on this regard as one of my talks have been embedded in this article.

Now regarding the matter of someone’s rights to cover themselves is actually upto them. We have had no problems when a criminal is taken into courts wearing something which looks like the Burqa right? ( Even recently some people were taken into few cases in the same manner wearing Orange clothing if you know what I mean!), so therefore let everyone have their rights to do so and let them to be responsible for that. Now if Ilma International School or other schools wants to cover their faces, let them have it and let them be responsible towards it. We cannot influence peoples clothing like I know there is a School Uniform worn by a Popular girls school in Colombo which exposes their under arms!!! Just imagine how one will feel if a dozen of students get into a bus after 2pm passing though a warm day in midday traffic!! Will we request the school to cover their underarms too?? So let the Burqa be as it is, but let us all agree on these differences on basic clothing which will not disturb the harmony of this peaceful country.
Finally Its important to differentiate this clothing with extremism or Wahhabism because all those who cover their faces are not extremists and Muslims in the world are united against extremists!
Finally my views on the school curriculum will not change, it stands still the same that they do not teach you the Islam from its classical ways, but the basis of their teachings is on Wahhabism/ Salafism and I have most of their books with me at the moment which anyone can feel free to check

I must first of all clarify that I did not write the article, cited as by me, about the planting of date trees etc. I am sure that that citation was a bona fide error on the part of CT. I must add that I certainly deplore all such activity that can be interpreted as being meant to show that we Muslims don’t belong here. That isn’t the best way of living in peace, amity, and cooperation with non-Muslims.
As a Muslim I must express my gratitude to CT for publishing the above article. It is a noble gesture in the best interests of the Muslims. The fact that so many refused to be identified by no means invalidates the article. Sri Lankans are usually wary about standing up and being counted. In this case they have cause to be wary because of the Wahabi notoriety for violence. My salutations to that courageous man for speaking out at that meeting and to that courageous parent who took his child out of Ilma International. Let there be at least a few Muslims who stand up for Islam against Wahabism.
In saying that I have behind me the might and majesty of orthodox Islam. Muslims generally accept that the most authoritative voice of orthodox Islam is that of Al Azhar in Cairo.Every Muslim should see the short video posted several times by Amarasiri, in which a top Al Azhar cleric gives the essentials of the orthodox position on Wahabism. He asks us not to be fooled by the different names given to Wahabism, since the underlying reality is Wahabism. It is a gross slander to say that orthodox Muslims practice saint worship. He says that those who falseley accuse others of polytheism will themselves be judged as polytheists in the next world. He cites the hadith in which the Prophet predicts with stunning prescience that the Horn of the Devil would be manifested in the Najd. Sheikh Abdul Wahab was from the Najd. According to orthodox Islam therefore Wahabism is unIslamic.
At present I am looking into the possibility that Naom Chomsky might have derived his linguistics from al-Farabi. What a contrast between the latter and Sheikh Abdul Wahab who couldn’t understand the simple distinction between veneration and worship. – IH

“At present I am looking into the possibility that Naom Chomsky might have derived his linguistics from al-Farabi. What a contrast between the latter and Sheikh Abdul Wahab who couldn’t understand the simple distinction between veneration and worship. – IH “

Not only did “Sheikh” Abdul Wahhab, not understand the simple distinction between veneration and worship, he did not even understand the Holy Quran, and the Instructions for 100 lashes, and went against Allah’s instructions, and stoned a women to death.

He did not have the Intellect to understand al-Farabi, like many of the current Wahhahabies, Salafies and their Clones.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Farabi

Al-Farabi (/ˌælfəˈrɑːbi/; Persian: ابونصر محمد بن محمد فارابی‎‎ Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad Fārābī;[1] for other recorded variants of his name see below) , known in the West as Alpharabius[5] (c. 872[2] in Fārāb[3] – between 14 December, 950 and 12 January, 951 in Damascus),[3] was a renowned philosopher and jurist who wrote in the fields of political philosophy, metaphysics, ethics and logic. He was also a scientist, cosmologist, mathematician and music scholar.[6]

Al-Farabi is credited with preserving the original Greek texts during the Middle Ages because of his commentaries and treaties, and influencing many prominent philosophers, like Avicenna and Maimonides. Through his works, he became well-known in the East as well as the West.

Who would do that other than Iblis, Satan or his followers?

      http://quran.com/24/2

The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse – lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah , if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.

WE DO NOT WANT AMARASIRIS OR SHANTHA’S TO TEACH US ABOUT ISLAM. INSTEAD YOU MAY FOCUS ON YOUR OWN COMMUNITY’S SOCIAL PROBLEMS WHICH IS DESTROYING YOUR OWN GENERATION. DO NOT BLAME MUSLIMS FOR THIS WHEN IT’S TOO LATE.
I MEAN TRY TO SAVE YOUR COMMUNITY FROM MENDIS ARAKKU AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE INSTEAD.
IF NEED WE MUSLIMS CAN HELP YOU WITH REGARD TO THIS MATTER.

FURTHER EVEN BUDDHISM HAS GOT TWO SECTS LIKE MAHAYANA AND THERAWADA. DO WE INTEREFERE IN THOSE?
CHRISTIANS TOO HAVE SO MANY SECTS TEACHING CHRISTIANITY IN THEIR OWN WAYS. DO YOU GO AND PORK YOUR NOSE IN TO THEM ??
SEEMS YOU ARE HAPPY AS LONG AS YOU SEE THE WOMEN WALK DOWN THE STREETS IN SEMI NUDE ATTIRE.
THE PROBLEM STARTS WHEN YOU ARE UNABLE TO SEE THE EXPOSED BODY OF A WOMAN WALKING DOWN THE STREETS.
WHEN SRI LANKAN LAWS ALLOWED WOMEN TO WALK DOWN THE STREETS IN PUBLIC ALMOST MAKED WHAT IS THE PROBLEM IN MUSLIM WOMEN DRESSING IN A MORE DECENT WAY WITH SHAME AND HONOUR ???

“WE DO NOT WANT AMARASIRIS OR SHANTHA’S TO TEACH US ABOUT ISLAM.”

Learn from the Al Azhar Cleric.

So, you want Satan Iblis misled “Shaikh” Abdul Wahhab to reach you about Wahhabism, by calling it Salafism?

Remember, being a Wahhabi or its clone is a sure way to end up in Hell Fire along with Iblis, Satan.

      Read, the Hadith of Najd.

See what Al Azhar Cletiv says about Wahhabism and “Salafism”, Iblis ideology.

Be the way you were when the srilankan muslims had a great identity.
Since the middle east job exodus and return you are trying to bring in a new beduin style of mohamedism rejected by the world as fundamentalism.
Middle east saw development only 40 years ago and they were living in medieval ages .
Srilankan muslims are a refind lot not beduines.
I urge you to be so.and not to shift back to the middle eastern medieval aged

my dear do not forget that islam originated from saudi arabia 1400 years ago in it’s pure and original state. it began to be adulterated after spreading in to multi cultural societies as the so called muslims living there tried to copy cat and innovate practices from other cltures and moved on adulterating islam.

islam is free from all kinds of superstitious beliefs , practices and senseless celebrations.

as our beloved prophet muhammed s.a.w. said every child in this world is born in a pure state in submission to the one and only god by default.

the child is turned in to a fire or idle worshipper by the parents and the environment he is born in to.

        Yes, Yes and Yes.

If a Child is born in Saudi Arabia, they will be subjected to the Wahhabi education System learning the Quran, memorizing the Quran, and Reading the Hadith until grade 8 with neglect of the other subjects that will increase the child’s thinking skills, critical analysis and other mental faculties. Then the Could goes to College/University, and gets an undergraduate degree, Then the Saudi-Wahhabi student takes the GMAT Exam.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduate_Management_Admission_Test

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT (/ˈdʒiːmæt/ (jee-mat))) is a computer adaptive test (CAT) intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA.

The GMAT does not measure business knowledge or skill, nor does it measure intelligence. According to the test owning company, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the GMAT assesses analytical writing and problem-solving abilities, while also addressing data sufficiency, logic, and critical reasoning skills that it believes to be vital to real-world business and management success. On June 5, 2012, GMAC introduced an integrated reasoning section to the exam that is designed to measure a test taker’s ability to evaluate data presented in new formats and multiple sources.

GMAT is a registered trademark of the Graduate Management Admission Council. More than 5,900 programs offered by more than 2,100 universities and institutions use the GMAT exam as part of the selection criteria for their programs. Business schools use the test as a criterion for admission into a wide range of graduate management programs, including MBA, Master of Accountancy, and Master of Finance programs. The GMAT exam is administered in standardized test centers in 112 countries around the world. According to a survey conducted by Kaplan Test Prep, the GMAT is still the number one choice for MBA aspirants despite the increasing acceptability of GRE scores. According to GMAC, it has continually performed validity studies to statistically verify that the exam predicts success in business school programs.

Covering the face and wearing black abaaya are all part of Islaam, this practice was introduced by the Tablighi jamaath a non political islamic practices revival movment in 70’s.
Wahabism or Salafis are not responsible for this although they support these practices as a part of Islaam. In the past muslims in Srilanka were ignorant of real practices of Islaam. Those days the whole community had one or two religious scholars, many earned in the name of the religion and it’s very rare those came forward to teach religion voluntarily. Presently there are more than ten thousand religious scholars in Srilanka due to the efforts of the Tablighi jamaath.
Wahabism has nothing to do with these revival but they are trying to get undue advantage through these revival.
General muslims in Srilanka and the Tablighi jamaath condemn wahabism. As they are not part of the Sunnis who are majority in the world. Wahabis also a cult like Shi’is.
Even today we condemn the ACJU for allowing them to build separate mosques of their own.

I see plenty of personal opinions of people here and hardly any facts and figures. People are quoting websites to prove their point is very funny. I don’t like to mention names but some are keep writing here like they know everything about Islam, Quran and Hadith but their comments show how ignorant they are about this second largest religion in the world. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world till this date and its a fact. I am not quoting Wikipedia here as anybody can include articles into this website. This link is based on surveys http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/02/living/pew-study-religion.
Nobody has to teach others what they should wear and its a freedom that each Sri Lankan has in this country and that is why we see people wearing covered clothes and revealing clothes on the same street. Covering the face can be debated as it is not a must but wearing loose garment in the form of Abaya is preferred in Islam. Clothes of Sri Lankans have evolved in Sri Lanka among all communities and we don’t have to worry about it as they don’t affect another person unless they are fully face covered or they are nude.
People killing other innocent people are all terrorists in my opinion regardless what they call themselves. They can call themselves Muslims, Jews, Americans, monks, Wahabis, Taliban or whatever you name it and of course they will have their own reason/excuse for these killings. They all have their own propaganda. Its a broad subject so I will stop here.
I would like tell some people who say that if you want to wear Abaya you can go to Saudi that this is everyone’s country. We can also ask those who wear half nude to go to one of the Western countries. Lets not try to think that this country belong to those who wear Sarees and Sarongs. Its a basic freedom to wear as this is a democratic country.
Now let’s move to Ilma International Girls school. This school has two streams of education and they are namely national syllabus and Cambridge syllabus. Both these are approved systems by the Ministry of Education and followed by majority of schools. In addition to this there is an Islamic atmosphere in this school as it is with any other school with one of the religious backgrounds. There is no harm in teaching the girls to be a good Muslim. I have no facts now to prove my point but anybody can go check if there are any other different syllabus taught at this school. If the defense ministry thinks there is something else being taught, they together with ministry of education can close down the school. There is no FACT and that is why nothing can be done to the school.
What an ordinary person from Kandy says or another parent says about this school has no relevance here. Come with facts and we all can make a complaint together.
If you ask me if there are religious extremists in Sri Lanka I would say yes and they are in all four major religions. They promote hatred about other communities, do conversions, work on foreign agendas, work for corrupt politicians and they come in all forms but these are merely few percentage of this country. Sri Lankan communities of multi cultural, multi ethnic will coexist for many centuries to come and these small elements cannot do anything to ruin that.
