Mullaitivu Residents Burn Wigneswaran Effigies, EPRLF And Ananthi To Boycott Oath Ceremony

Still angered by Northern Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran‘s decision to take oaths before President Mahinda Rajapaksa earlier this week, Northern Province residents burned effigies of moderate TNA politicians including Leader R. Sampanthan, Colombo Telegraph learns.

Ananthi Sasitharan

Residents in Mullaitivu district burnt images of chief minister Wigneswaran and TNA national list MP M.A. Sumanthiran reports from the area said.

The reports come amidst strong statements from the EPRLF and Ananthi Sasitharan that they nay boycott tomorrow’s oath taking ceremony before the Northern Chief Minister.

The Suresh Premachandran led EPRLF is unhappy over the TNA’s decision about the provincial ministerial board.

Sasitharan who is the wife of former LTTE political wing leader of Trincomalee  Elian is disillusioned with Wigneswaran’s decision to be sworn in before the president who was roundly condemned during thwarted TNA’s polls campaign.

Is it the Mullativu residence or Douglas Devananda’s crowd that burnt?

I’m sure it must be the thugs of Duckles Devananda to create problems with in the Tamil community. Although Tamils did condemn taking Oath from the war Criminal but Mullaithivu People aren’t that crazy enuff to burn Wiggies Effigies. This mus definitely the work of the Government.

Even the Sinhala government killed the Walleria Sinhala Cristian community people for protesting for clean water. Stop shouting Diaspora this diaspora that, LTTE that and LTTE this and let the people live peacefuly. Why are you Moda singalis[Edited out] always bark without a valid reason?

R Ghandi was the head of an army that indiscriminately killed Tamil civilians though shelling , raped many Tamil women and stole the saving of many Tamils. He and his ilk also did their best to exterminate Dravidian languages in India by trying to impose Hindi on the South; a clear act of genocide.

            PalmSquirrel,
IPKF was provoked by the LTTE and R.Premadasa. However R.Premadasa was clever to use the LTTE, but too paid himself for his cunningness. This is Karma.

Agree with you that LTTE did kill civilians. But LTTE is a terrorist group, but the Army and Government of Sri Lanka is not a terrorist group. So just because LTTE killed civilians it is not right for the government to kill civilians. I agree we have to bring all the living senior LTTE leaders before justice (KP and the group with the Government)but at the same time the army and the government of Sri Lanka and the seniors who were involved in shelling civilians also should be brought before a court of law.

Unity is of utmost importance to the Tamils at this stage. The swearing in is only a formality. It will do a lot of good for Suresh and Sasitharan to not to forget this. Opponents are waiting like vultures looking for the slightest split. So, beware!

      Hello there Sengodan,

Unity is of utmost importance to the Tamils at this stage.

I am sure I have heard this kind of tribal calls before too. Although as soon one finds even a hint of dissension the former comerade into traitor doesn’t it really? Its then followed by internal “cleansing” . Does it ring any bells?

How old are you buddy? As one grows older one is required to reach a higher level of maturity. What I find from people like you is the opposite really.

Given the predcamaent Tamils face shouldn’t you give leadership to the next generation to follow a more broad minded approach? isn’t there any independent thinking happening inside the morass that is Tamil nazidom? What is wrong with you?

I can understand that some of you who are Sinhala Buddhist Supremacists will hope for a split in the TNA. You may rest assured that will never happen. The people have given an overwhelming mandate and the TNA leadership will never fail to honour same!

          Sengodan,

You behave as if Tamils are immune from the ravages of a narrow mindenness and Facsism. Shouldnt you “get it” it at least now? Didn’t your parents teach you how not to be racist?

Didn’t your parents teach you how not to be racist?

They need not be taught these things. This and many other super-human abilities are built into Tamil DNA. Didn’t you read S. Sivathasan recent article about unconquerable genetic traits of Tamils?

Only a few Tamils still have some dignity left.

Vigneswaran is a shameless traitor. First he went crawling to worship the military governor. Then the military commander in chief.

No matter how many times you bleet on about TNA taking Oath from Mahinda, remember it was the former who forced the later to administer the Oath and that too was done in Tamil! So don’t think Tamils are falling for your pathetic attempt at spin and propaghanda to get Tamils to turn on the TNA.

You have to take these stories with a pinch of saly. Only a few days ago Vasanthy said she would take the oath administered by the CM.

It is infuriating to see Suresh playing childish games. The man is only thinking about himself and his party and not about the people. Typical greedy politician like his compatriots in the South.

      Piranha,
I agree that Suresh is childish. But he will be kicked out at the next election, like how Anandasangari was kicked out at the recent election. C.V.Wigneswaran will give priority to merits. Suresh is just becoming unpopular among the Tamils.

This is great news. It’s the beginning and the end of TNA. President MR is the cleverest Leader among all leaders in the world. Look at what has happened to UNP and JVP. He has created divisions in UNP,JVP United Nations,United Nations Human Rights Council, India and to a certain extent among the Commonwealth countries and now it will be TNA. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tamil Language media has reported that Sampanthan and Wigneswaran met the defence secretary Gotabaya and expressed their willingness to work with him but not a word from the ITAK leadersship. Why is this secrecy. When they talk to the Tamil people to get votes Gotabaya is a war criminal. After getting elected Gotabaya metamorphose into Mr Defence secretary. This is an old game which the ITAK never get tired playing

The fact that there was compromise on the part of government about the Northern CM’s swearing-in has been lost on these protesters.

The seemingly intransigent Governor Chandrasiri was neutralised by the TNA.

Firstly TNA refused to take oaths under Governor Chandrasiri, but agreed to do so under MR.

Secondly, for me the most significant compromise was that the Oaths taken by Wigneswaran was in Tamil!

What more do the extremist elements want?

To perpetuate the suffering of the Tamils, or to bring prosperity to their people with mutual compromise and dignity?

    That’s not a hard choice!

All are politician. They want only power and have a comfortable life. At the war time all they lived in Colombo while innocent poor tamil youth were in battle filed. Noting difference north or South public have to suffer while politican having comfortable life using public money.

These tails politician they don’t want do any ting for poor Tamils. they want Tamils be in suffer then they can get power.
Now the main problems of tails facing in north and East of Sri lanka is Indian fishermen who come to sri lankan water. They steel all the fish. Sri Lankan tamils nothing.Does Any tamil politican concern about that? No. Then what about other problems.

Suresh Premachandran and Anandi Sasitharan are not matured enough. They have to learn a lot from C.V.Wigneswaran, R.Sambandan and Sumanthiran. Emotion will not pay any dividends. C.V.Wigneswaran-led TNA is carefully placing their step-by-step method. Both Suresh Premachandran and Anandi Sasitharan should realize the ground situation and not to provide an opportunity to the enemy.

Ananthi has been named as. an advisor on war-affected women affairs in the NPC. As a war- victim herself , the wife of ‘Ellilan’ the instrument through whom the Mavilary disaster was orchestrated, a wife who does not know the whereabouts of her husband and a government employee until recently at the Kilinochchi Kachcheri, she is amply qualified for the role she has been assigned. She should be the bridge between the war-affected women all over north and the NPC.

The report on the extent of resort to prostitution as a means to livelihood in the north that has been published elsewhere today, should draw the immediate attention of the NPC. Anandi should also make this her major concern.

We all hope and pray these elected officials will have the wisdom to think and act likewise.

And rise above hatred. Though I am willing to cut them some slack given what they have been through.

I will keep my fingers crossed for people of the North. And hope for the best.

      Cheers!

Who knows if there was an understanding between MR henchman Douglas Devananda and diaspora TGTE to throw a spanner in the works by attacking the residence and vehicle of Ananthi Sasitharan and ensure she obtains a hefty preference vote over TNA’s official CM candidate in the NPC elections to stake her claim as Chief Minister.

The government would then have had a clear advantage with her agency of the LTTE diaspora Tamil outfits by showing the rest of the world that the striped Tamils are an adamant extremist lot, incapable of managing their own affairs in the NPC and justify a constitutional emasculation of the 13th Amendment.

The burning of the democratically elected CM’s effigy should be seen in that light.Ananthi Sasitharan in my opinion is in the same league as KP,Karuna,Pillayan,Daya Master and such others. Her option to take oaths before a JP instead of the CM illustrates that point.

Obviously when a honest, experienced, well qualified and a strategist take over the leadership and appoint the most suitable candidates to the relevant positions, obviously there’s going to be friction within the party.

But once the people realized that CM Wigneswaran is honest in his decision making, they will give into him and support him.

CM Wigneswaran has to deliver and address some short term crucial issues quick, and this will build up the confidence of the Nothern people and once the confidence is built up everything will fall in line.

CM Wigneswaran should start Nothern development Internet web site and open public media and communication lines to keep both locals and International community updated on various goals and start looking for funds, both locally and Internationally for both short and long term requirements. It all comes to Marketing, promotion and sales.

Delivering and solving few important issues early is the key to success while giving confidence to the community and silence the opposition.

Hope everything will fall in line.

Indeed, it could be anticipated that TNA is to be reformed in order to create a vigorous platform where certain so-called qualified community could deal some good politics for Tamils. I think CM is fair enough who can simply work with the veto community in the South for the betterment of the north.

There is a possible new beginning. It must not be scotched. It must be given a chance to work out. Tamils can perhaps be proud of their resistance movement, the LTTE, like Palestinians are of the PLA. But, they should not romanticize the LTTE. It did kill unnecessarily and waste the opportunities for peace. It alienated the international community by the use of excessive violence. It did commit war crimes, though charging it is of little use as its war leaders have been executed by the Government without trial. It only believed in the way of the gun and did not try out diplomacy to any significant extent. It was afraid that if force was given up, its status among the Tamils would diminish. Tamils must salute the LTTE for pride it gave them. The colossal system that was built up, the huge network around the world, the efficient running of the administration are feats to be admired. But, the fact is that the Tamils are left with nothing now.

Give the new leadership a chance. Left without nothing by the LTTE, let the new leadership get something for the Tamils as well as be the tail that wags the rest of the country into a decent government. This opportunity must not be missed by a few disgruntled politicians whose personal drive for power has been stunted. They are simply using the romantic memory of the LTTE for their own ends.

Vigneswaran must act prudently. He is a tainted figure too in the eyes of the Tamils. He was a Justice at the time of the Tamil struggle committed to regard those who carried out the struggle as traitors. He must not throw stones at the diaspora or at the Tamils in India. He has his own baggage. He must act like the elder statesman his physical appearance indicates. The national respect he commands can produce good results for Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims. He could be the instrument through which good could be achieved for the hapless country burdened with this cruel problem that has brought grief to all people. So give him space and time to work out some solution.

Disgraceful. It is clear that these jokers do nor deserve self rule or anything similarly close. The Provincial Councils are provided under the Constitution and what does it matter as to before whom one takes the oaths. It is understandable that Ananthi through her bitterness about what happened to her husband took this attitude. For one who is interested in Tamil unity at this crucial juncture cannot understand the slothful Premachandran, who is used to making pompous statements, taking such an attitude in insinuating the Mullaitivu people to act in this manner. He should join Devananada to help him to destabilise Tamil unity. Bensen

what suresh premachandran and anandhi did is not going to do any good to the community may be they would have scored some brownie points.what tamils of srilanka and diaspora have to do is to consolidate whatever gains they have made.they have to take right earnestly some steps which can create a good investment climate tamil diaspora and indian industrialists will be more than ready to invest this will result in development of tamil areas.taking a strident position is not going to help any one that is what prabakaran did and correctly he was defeated.i hope that tamils will realise from the mistakes committed in the past and prosper in future.

Justice Wigneswaran is the best things the Sri Lankan Tamils have right now. We have to support him and Sampanthan. Tamil extremists such as Ananthi are irrelevant and outdated. She was the widow of a terrorist who belonged to an organization that murdered many Tamil civilians! Shame on Ananthy! Her husband was a murderor.
