Govt Shuts Down Social Media

The Government has moved to clamp down on social media, presumably as a measure to curb rumor-mongering following the inter-communal clashes in the Kandy District.

President Maithripala Sirisena has directed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission to enforce this block for three days.

Accordingly, Facebook access has been withdrawn while group chats in Whatsapp have been blocked. Video and audio messages cannot be sent on Whatsapp.

Something smells rotten and sinister in the State of Lanka…

Who benefits from the chaos? Who has cultivated a Culture of Impunity for Corruption and Hate Crimes and riots by politicians and their Thugs in robes in the past 3 years?
Answer: Bondscam Ranil Wickramasinghe, who should have been forced to resign after LG election and been impeached for Bondscam at Central Bank, gets to remain in office under emergency regulations no less, because of Anti-Muslim riots. His foreign advisers must be delighted.
The Culture of Impunity for Financial Crimes and Hate Crimes that Ranil represents is unparalleled. Yet the civil society organizations paid for by foreign interests think that Ranil is a Liberal Saviour!

“President Maithripala Sirisena has directed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission to enforce this block for three days.”

Well old crook who can’t/won’t deal with the riots has found an easy target, social media. Shutting down media is a favourite sports for the crooks who deny information access to unsuspecting stupid people. Now you need to rely on the boring state propaganda, disinformation and blatant lies.

Where is Mangala Samaraweera? Does he know old habits die hard?

It would be far more effective if the Government shut down Gnanasara. But he is Gota’s buddy….and GR is a Rajapakse…..and the Government is protecting the Rajapakses…..so….

Who is the Minister for Law and order? Who has cultivated a Culture of Impunity and Immunity for those who commit Financial Crimes and Hate Crimes, including for Gota’s Bodu Balu Sena Gniyanasara and Mahinda Rajapassa and family of corrupt criminals?

    Bondscam Ranil must go!

Not just RW, Sirisena too should go, he too has not kept his piece of the commitment of clean government. The problem in SL is that every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to be in power for all the wrong reasons and the voters most of whom cannot tell the difference between day and night elect these politicians into office. The earlier bunch was murderers, megalomaniacs, outright rogues, fraudsters and the present combo are lost and do not know what to do having the power in their hands

Freedom of speech is good when you are in opposition. It is more than a bother when you are in Govt where you don’t like criticism. So clamp down on the media and get into your cocoon.I am all for it. These natives don’t understand democracy do they?

Good move for the moment. The false rumors about Muslims distributing food that sterilize, and that they are taking over this country, must be stopped at this time.
There are evil elements that are deliberately spreading false rumors, to cause trouble, right now.

Though I m not a racist, I must say that double standards of treated differently for Tamils and muslims should end, Marriage law allowing multiple wives, separate banking systems, Separate laws (that we don’t know) allowed to marry under age females.
Wilpattu issue, deforestation of reserved forests for muslim community, authoritarian involvement of muslim leaders directing police stations should be stopped.

where I am living, sociual media is used, VIA APPs, to do bank account transfers , order to tickets, reserve seats or vacations and many things. send cheques. Only in Sri lanka where media freedom is respected, the Orumiththa govt got scared to social media. what is going on. It.looks it is Kiruiella’s people doing it. I heard even in the MY3’s meeting Muslims were asking Cement houses, for Katumeti houses, and many on the way to NAsiristhan.

Shutting down social media: the “great’ yahapalanaya in action. Had this censorship happened during the previous regime, those now in ‘yahapalanaya’ would have been screaming foul…… What jokers these politicians are, and what losers, those still supporting them. Yahapalanaya is far worse than the previous regime… ha ha.

Imagine the same scenario during the previous MR administration. The UN would hold emergency sessions.to discuss the situation in SL.

They would call MR a dictator. The situation as a gross violation of human rights.where is this UN NOW. ?
