‘We Are Shocked To Find That Witnesses Have Been Hurriedly Summoned’ – Legal Team Of The CJ

By Saliya Pieris

The Government Information Department has announced that the parliamentary select committee has called several witnesses to give evidence against the Chief Justice within the course of today going onto the night. Until the Chief Justice and her counsel walked out of the Select Committee yesterday it was maintained by the  Committee that no oral evidence will be led and despite our demands to cross examine the witnesses we were not given the list of witnesses or documents and were told that there will be no witnesses called. This same observation has been made by the Opposition Members of the Select Committee today at 230 pm, according to the statement issued by them. We now find that after the Chief Justice and her lawyers walked out  of the Select Committee, the Committee has called for witnesses and led their evidence. We understand that all those witnesses were summoned today (the 7th) after the lawyers walked out. It appears to us that as long as the Chief Justice and her lawyers were

present witnesses would  not have  been called.  We are  shocked  to find that witnesses have  been hurriedly summoned and their evidence led, taking advantage of the absence of the Chief Justice and her lawyers who were prepared to cross examine each and every witness in order to expose the truth. In fact the lawyers  demanded that the witnesses be called, demanded a list of witnesses and document and demanded that the procedure be laid down, all of which were refused.

It suddenly has dawned on the PSC that it was “on a bad wicket” when a request for list of witnesses was refused, the CJ was insulted and subsequently walked out,and the irrationality of the huge sum alleggedly in CJ’s bank accounts was exposed.
This hurried summoning of witnesses whose testimony was not cross examined and thus inadmissible as evidence will make matters worse for the PSC and not for the CJ.
The nation awaits the next episode.

From the beginning I maintained that this PSC “Drama” is a big circus, the only exception being that they now do not have experienced acrobats, but only the :Jokers and Clowns. It was fortunate that the Opposition representatives remained in the scene to tell us the truth until the last moment of exhaustion of endurance. So with CJ who attended the sessions and made an exit at the appropriate time.

One word to HE. Your enemy is within. So be carefull. You should have listened to yesterday’s (7-12-2012) programme “Dasa Desin” conducted by the Chairman of SLBC, Mr. Hudson Samarasinghe. That would have been an eye opener to you. Anyway Good Luck.

For the first time in HE’s reign our CJ has taught or will teach what compromise is all about, which in itself is good for Him and his loyal MPs. CJ stands firm as she has done no wrong but stood for justice for all

I am an Attorney at Law having a long practice and highly disturbed in the manner this issue is handled. the Bar in general and BASL in particular took an initiation to ridicule the whole process by making the way for CJ to go through the main door and gate which was never used by her normally to go to Parliament. Now she has her own men and women in the Bar and what ever she is impartial she will not be able manifest that she had acted fairly and impartially. people and the lawyers might have some doubt on her acts. it is not fair by the clients. therefore it is advisable to step down dining the chargers in totally. this is in the interest of justice.

    Saliya Pieris and co.
Well, you have had your scheme. And you made your move and walked out, not just that, you moved your reps out as well. What silly moves. I knew you’ll be caught napping. Without you knowing umpire had declared; match over and the results will be announced after a break.

What’s your next move eh? ‘Arab spring’ by black coated Haultsdorf Sharks!
