The U.S. Embassy has condemned the violence that has spread over the weekend in Aluthgama and Beruwela.

Issuing a statement the US Embassy Colombo today said; “We urge the government to ensure that order is preserved and the lives of all citizens, places of worship, and property are protected. We urge the authorities to investigate these attacks and bring those responsible to justice. We also urge all sides to refrain from violence, exercise restraint, and respect the rule of law.”

Why is it that whenever atrocities of this nature happen anywhere, it is the western countries namely the United States, are the first ones to condemn it? Where are the Chinese or the Russians, in fact where in hell are our own politician’s and leader’s condemnations?Is it such an controversy for the US to say what they see is bad, when we, at least some us also know what they are saying is true? We can blame the US and the west till kingdom come but it will not help us get out of this hell hole we have managed to dig ourselves into.
The reason why the west and US get to lecture us on things like this is pretty simple, they don’t let things like this happen in their soil, even if they do they make sure it doesn’t happen again. The US and Europe are dealing with Islamic extremists who want to blow up innocents and spill blood mercilessly but do you see Americans or Europeans setting mosques on fire, burning Muslim properties and rioting in the streets.But a small incident in Alutgama and all hell breaks loose.
It seems to be as these things progress day by day there is something seriously wrong with us Sri Lankans that is keeping us prosper and develop as a people. We need to deal with it otherwise we will be stuck in endless cycle of ethnic conflicts and civil unrests and see our country being pulled back to the middle ages.

This is apparently a reaction from King Gamunu to the appointment of Prince Zeid Al-Hussein as the commissioner. King Gamunu knows America will issue this type reports. When King Gamunu guide, it is absurd to America to follow that Path. 2009, Bush did exactly that absurdity. Here after America should stop going by the path guided by the King. My understanding is that there is an overwhelming majority – almost total agreement – on the need to ensure that “minorities know their place and keep to it” and that state power must be dedicated to ensuring that minorities do not “exceed their limits as minorities”.
State power is used to treat minorities as the aggressors while treating the majority as the aggrieved party, which is given free hand to “defend itself” by “redressing perceived imbalances”.
If you are a member of a minority community and you are attacked by a Sinhala Buddhist or a Sinhala Buddhist mob and you choose to fight off your attackers then the police will arrest you and charge you with having attacked your attackers.
This has been a trend since 1983 and possibly earlier.
This amounts to official policy and has to be EXPOSED and brought into the consciousness of both the majority as well as the minorities and placed before them with the question “is this the way you want to go and if so is it just, moral and ethical and something that you expect the rest of the world to welcome and accept”.
If this were to be called majoritarianism and if it were seen as unacceptable then there are other very similar dynamics at work throughout the world. Dominance, whether based on economics or knowledge or military capacity and the resulting power is no better and the state that you represent, dear madam, like all others, has no hesitance in exercising dominance over those that are weaker.
Do states then have a moral locus standi from which to criticize or attempt to intervene within the struggle between the dominated and the dominant? Does not the dominant today become the dominated tomorrow? What then is the purpose if any of intervention? What are the objectives of Civilization?
While your intervention may arise from a sense of humanitarian concern it seems to me as biased as any other given that the answering of these questions is a task that is not being addressed.
