In a surprising move, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa inquired from the Chairman Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Anusha Palpita about the blocking of www.colombotelegraph.com, the Colombo Telegraph reliably learns.
It is understood that Palpita deliberately lied to the President saying that Colombo Telegraph published personal attacks on high ranking members of the Government including the President. Colombo Telegraph challenges Palpita to cite instances where articles published on Colombo Telegraph contains ‘personal attacks’ on such individuals.

I am in SL and noticed some internet providers block the Colombotelegraph site.
They are doing this by blocking from DNS servers. By configuring your computer to use Google DNS you can make your computer to access Colombotelgraph. I did it and browsing Colombotelegraph.
Google DNS site IP address are 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.
If you want step by step instruction to change the DNS to google DNS please follow this link.

Depends on who you call journalists and whose side you are on. To me this website is so anti Sinhala it is amazing! Only some of the traitors like Chandrika Kumaratunga, Ranil Wickremasinghe and Mangala Samaraweera want to see you up and running outside the country. They have all lost credibility within.

Colombo Telegraph,
“It is understood that Palpita deliberately lied to the President saying that Colombo Telegraph published personal attacks on high ranking members of the Government including the President.”
Lying seems to be a common practice among some Para-Sinhala, like Palpita serving the MaRa. Lying is knowingly telling the non-truth or un-truth.

The President, or any mother’s son – to use a popular local expression, is not beyond reasonable criticism in the democratic form of Govt we subscribe to. If this particular official is “trying to hold pandam” in his over-zealous and pretensive “official duty” of protecting the family his suspect services should be immediately done away with.
The Freedom of Expression cannot be compromised with even in a fragile democracy as the one we are forced to endure with in recent times.

King is putting a new drama to fool the CT readers.(This may be to soften the crowd before the election) He thinks if this story breaks out then overnight even the CT readers will be turned into Mahavamsa Modaya and would start to listen government’s propaganda. CT readers demand not just free the to CT. They ask free the Media. So then why he is asking about blocking CT? What about the other media? We hear the Tamil part of the Ada Derana has been blocked in Lanka. Repeal all the circulars and all the law demanding medias to register with the government.
What one can tell is, if CT is turned into Daily News, the readers going to find out something else. So attempting to target the CT will not serve any purpose to King’s government. It is not CT writing these against government. Readers knows what is happening in the land and that is why is they come to CT find out the bottom of it. Death of Lasantha, Tharaki… did not cure he people’s thirst to seek the truth. If CT is not there they are not going to become Mahavamsa Moadaya’s.

If the big man (Periya Dorai) wants Colombo Telegraph (CT) blocked, why must a small man (Sinna Dorai) lie to keep it blocked? Hence it is clear that it is the Sinna Dorai who wants to keep it blocked. Was there any personal attack or for that matter any attack before on Sinna Dorai? As a regular reader of CT I have not seen any.
Therefore the conclusion is that CT has failed to please (Santhosam) the Sinna Dorai to keep the CT on line. Today this malaise is there everywhere. My god! today we have to buy the freedom of press and free speech. Very soon we would be required to buy the right to breath.

In a free and democratic country (this is what the President calls Sri Lanka), what is wrong in any one personally attacking the Presidents and other politicians in any of the columns?
/
Rev.Devil / May 17, 2014
Leave the lie apart. But how come that CT is so excited about the inquiry of the president !!!!!?? ….who himself by nature and records of his history, has hundreds of Goebbels in him !!?
/
NAK / May 17, 2014
Leave the lies aside. What do you guy’s think Thisaranee is churning out day in and day out? and I’ve seen some derogatory comments too.
But that shouldn’t be a reason to block CT. Politicians are generally thick skinned and they can withstand a lot more than they appear.

As channel four said behind that smile is an evil man i can not agree more these people are all for themselves and when the truth is spoken they shit bricks,so they say block it, he is just abusing the word president i dont think he knows the meaning of it.For all those who gave this man power he is feeding them PITTU. no matter what you or I say it will fall on deaf ears and he just laugh at us while he drinks his top class whisky. What a shame for whats happend to such a glorious country the pearl as you called it, my heart bleeds to see the destruction caused by just one potato looking man….

Well done, President Rajapakse. The myth of free speech is exactly that – free speech. Every organization, from small to big, has its own agenda. Everyone will try to protect their own interests, only that those with more power will often be more successful. Reverse positions – big fish, small fish – and the new big fish will play the same game.
